October 12th, 2025 - 1:25pmI don’t like to keep harping on about this, but…….
I’ve ‘saved enough pennies’ over the past month to buy a small sweet shop….
My nose has been pressed against the (cybernetic) glass of the Dr Who Toyshop for the past month…..
And no new figures appear, not the Master nor the other one……
Paraphrase Keeper of Traken: ‘Who would have thought its appearance would have been so protracted….?’
daz
October 12th, 2025 - 1:58pmThe Master is meant to be launching tomorrow or Tues on Characters website according to social media.

October 9th, 2025 - 7:11pmTheres Rumours on the Internet that RTD has Gone as Doctor Who Show Runner. For all I know it might be Official News but all I’ve heard is the Gossip so Far. Let’s just say if it’s True I for one won’t be sad to see him go after the mess he left the Show in. Both with Viewing Figures and the Rapid Decline in Merchandise because No One is Interested anymore.
Douglas
October 9th, 2025 - 8:04pmHe was brilliant, to begin with…..
Much better than his two successors…..
And Christopher Eccleston was perfect as the 9th Doctor…..
Though so was Peter Capaldi….
I don’t know how it all went so wrong today, ratings wise…..
Snowman
October 9th, 2025 - 8:18pmYes, I didn’t mind RTD 1 at all, it’s RTD 2 ‘that im referring Too.
Amypondfan
October 9th, 2025 - 8:41pmIf you use AI news then it says he has left but only because he’s stopping the dwm column not because it’s official. Another report says Disney want him gone but the deal is for streaming rights and Disney have no creative input anyway. Frankly I’d wait for an official announcement which is unlikely before next year after war is shown.

October 9th, 2025 - 8:59pmIf nothing else, ‘Russell 2.0’ is to be commended…..
For Ncuti’s wacky sonic screwdriver……!
Amypondfan
October 9th, 2025 - 9:24pmSorry should clarify. If you type in has rtd left then the automated AI news function on Google says yes but it’s not an accurate story as the AI erroneously associates rtd stopping his column with confirming he has left.
Snowman
October 10th, 2025 - 7:21amHello Amypondfan, I didn’t Google it or use AI etc. I’m Regularly on YouTube and Maybe Three Or Four Channels That Regularly Report on Doctor Who (Good and Bad) say he was Pushed out of the Job. Don’t know were they got the info from though.
pb
October 10th, 2025 - 7:29pmRobert Shearman pointed out that the position Doctor Who has been left in now is ‘deader than it’s ever been’ when you consider the fact that there isn’t even a current Doctor anymore. Even during the Wilderness Years it was at least known that either McCoy or McGann were the current Doctor. Now there’s just…. nothing. No one knows what’s going on with it. And, as he points out, any Doctor Who media made during this intermission will as a result have to be retrospective, featuring a past Doctor, due to this. The damage RTD2 has done to this franchise is disgraceful. Even having David Tennant twice on the list of mainline Doctors for the sake of 3 episodes is ludicrous. Unbelievable.
Scotel
October 10th, 2025 - 8:04pmAs Abraham Lincoln once said “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”
The show may have a future but it certainly doesn’t have a present while they are stuck waiting for Disney to renew or pull out. Nobody has been sacked or dropped because right now the job doesn’t even exist. When the dust settles it will be up to the BBC if they want to continue their relationship with RTD and indeed with Bad Wolf (he isn’t actually tied to either group) and that won’t happen until next year. Anyone saying a decision has been made (unless its the man himself saying he’s not interested) can be dismissed.
Snowman
October 10th, 2025 - 8:13pmYes pb, I saw that Interview by Robert Shearman saying Dr Who Is at an All time Low and even in a Worse Position than the last wilderness because back then they still had a Doctor, Who Hadn’t Quit and Still hoped there Would be More Episodes Made with Him in future. To be Fair I have to Agree with him. What an Absolute mess.
The Unlicensed Physician
October 11th, 2025 - 1:16amIt feels like a natural end, a good place to finish/rest the series. Then in ten years time an all new team can do an all new series, if people actually still wanted it. Plenty of other things to read/watch/listen to, old and new, in the meantime.
Doesn’t help the magazine of course, as almost everything has been done to death by now.
The DR.
October 11th, 2025 - 7:54amYes, The Unlicensed Physician. I didn’t think about that. (Regards the Magazine) Do you think the Unthinkable might happen with no New TV Content in future, that the Magazine might Eventually Finish? (Sooner Rather than later).
Scotel
October 12th, 2025 - 3:00pmThe show has a slim chance of coming back after thos extended break some people seem desperate to set it on (and frankly you’re just as likely to end up with Dimensions in Time or The TV Movie as you are with a Rose), DWM would absolutely be dead if they ended it, no grand comeback, print media struggles as is. The current momentum is all most magazines have left.
Between the magazine, Big Finish, the Collections, the animations, the figures (both Character and Harrop)… for all fans complain about a lack of merchandise they seem really determined to ensure what we do have has no future. A business can’t just stop because you want a break. If you have a problem with a product then criticise it, but wishing it would end not even because of what it’s doing but what you think it might do in future is frankly just sad.
Snowman
October 13th, 2025 - 9:42amScotel, I know what you mean about there still being abit of Merchandise Out their, Like Collections and Animations, The Magazine etc. But I think alot of Fans (Me Included) Would like it how it was Maybe in the 2010s.
Character Options brought out wave after Wave of Figures every Year to Coincide with a New Season. Not Just a Couple of B&M sets each Year or the Odd Online Exclusive.
Eaglemoss had a New Figurine and Magazine out every Fortnight before they Went Bust. And Even Big Chief always had some 12 inch Figures coming out before they Also went Bust.
So I can understand “All the Fans Complaining” about Not Enough Merchandise.
Although Reading your Comment I know you will say there’s plenty of Merchandise Out there each Month.

October 7th, 2025 - 4:35pmSad news about Torchwood, honestly its just devastating but at the end of the day the people who pirate are hugely to blame. Big Finish is a small company, and pirating from them is wrong and completely different to pirating from mega corporations like Amazon or the BBC.
FH
October 7th, 2025 - 4:45pmWhat’s this all about? What happened?
FH
October 7th, 2025 - 4:49pmOh I just read the post. How do you know pirating is the reason? Have they said that? I can’t imagine there’s enough people that pirate these audio dramas to make such an impact. There’s probably just not enough interest in them in general tbh. It’s a niche within a niche, arguably within a niche.
Adam
October 7th, 2025 - 5:29pmLoads of people pirate Big Finish, and publicly gloat on social media especially twitter. BF have themselves said on occasion pirating causes huge issues for them, and was a contributing factor to them cancelling Rani Takes on the World.

October 5th, 2025 - 2:22pmDoes the recent appearance of footage from Dimensions in Time in Wish World give anyone hopes that Dimensions in Time may be cleared for the Wilderness Years blu ray set?
I know it was stated before that it would be too expensive to clear but maybe, now that there is more interest in the Rani and Dimensions in Time has been partially rehabilitated, there is more momentum to try again to find some agreement with Children in Need and BBC Archives who hold the maser footage?
Douglas
October 5th, 2025 - 3:58pmDimensions in Time…..?
That embarrassing, ghastly, cringeworthy Eastenders crossover from 1993….?

October 5th, 2025 - 7:24pmIt is the only televised meeting of the 6th Doctor and the Brigadier. That only makes it worth preserving.

October 5th, 2025 - 9:42pmDisney money could probably cover the research, admin and fees for the clips quite easily. If the Collection budget could stretch to it then I’m not sure it would really be the best use of the funds. (Get the TV Movie footage out of the salt mine.)
Douglas
October 6th, 2025 - 10:26amI’d forgotten about that…..
And of course Kate O’Mara as the Rani…..
And Tom Baker’s excellent line….
‘She hates me….she hates children…..’
Perhaps it is more of a curate’s egg……
daz
October 6th, 2025 - 11:33amI’d still like it to be included so we have the best version of it on Blu-ray. I still like it just to see everyone together.
If not I copied it onto dvd from YouTube along with the behind the scenes stuff a few years back.
Gordon
October 6th, 2025 - 12:32pmChildren in need themselves hold the rights to the footage. That’s why the usage rate is so expensive to clear for use (reportedly £60k for the full thing or £4k a minute) . I’ve heard rumours that either the bbc or someone on the bad wolf/rtd side have bought it outright but not sure how true that all is.

October 6th, 2025 - 6:48pmCall the Disney shareholders: “Look what those damned Dr Who people spent your money on! And you thought the new stuff was bad…” (Eisner laughs.)

October 9th, 2025 - 11:01pmTo be perfectly honest I’m surprised that Children In Need & the BBC haven’t just released ALL the Children In Need material. The could easily come to an agreement for a Special DVD Release which would allow even more funds for Children In Need.
Amypondfan
October 12th, 2025 - 10:07pmIt’s not easy. The rights involved are very complicated. As part of the original deal it was to have no repeat and no commercial release. It would be great to see dimensions and curse of fatal death get official releases but it may never happen.

October 5th, 2025 - 7:15pmSo, nothing else…..nothing…..special, in any way…..?

The ergon
September 29th, 2025 - 10:06pmA little disappointed to hear Harrops are now focusing more on nu Who rather than continuing on the classics.
Scotel
September 29th, 2025 - 10:31pmThey are just diversifying the range a bit, there are still more classic figures to come and releasing “modern” (some of these are still twenty years ago bear in mind) monsters is hardly anything new for them.
The ergon
September 29th, 2025 - 10:36pmIf they just include a nu Who character once maybe twice a year thats fine but with so many classics not yet touched, they really need to increase their annual releases.
Cully’s Pal
September 30th, 2025 - 12:20amI reckon the BBC have imposed this on Harrops, the lads at Harrops have always professed theyre classic fans. The odd nu who at christmas but 5 figures which will take up more than five months worth of slots. I’d have much preferred to have seen Harrops diversify into Who vehicles space crafts and buildings rather than nu who items. In fact before nu who Id have preferred to have seen the Gerry Anderson range resurrected.
The ergon
September 30th, 2025 - 9:03amAnd Thunderbirds being in its 60th year as well. Gerry andersons daughter was just on breakfast tv.
Cully’s Pal
September 30th, 2025 - 11:20amYes several notable Anderson birthdays this year which I’d like to have seen Harrops commemorate…. I’m told the BBC have nothing to do with the decision nu Who items. I’m glad to hear that although this seems like a swerve from what Harrops have always said was their preferred area. Even I might not have minded seeing a few of the new monsters based on the classic series spread over several Christmases (as has been Harrops previous practice) but in my book there are still way too many classic aliens – and other items from the classics – waiting to be done. I don’t think I’m giving anything away be saying Sil is proving a complex piece to complete and I think it was confirmed on site that several other classic figures are waiting in the wings. As always I look forward to seeing what those are. My interest in classic Who continues to build. My interest in nu Who is all but dead.
Rex F
September 30th, 2025 - 2:24pmBearing in mind that they only make a couple of hundred pieces per figure, perhaps they’ve hit a couple of hundred emails from people saying they’d happily buy new series stuff and aren’t interested in classics? They could potentially do better business with a big villain from New Who versus a lesser-known classic villain with more tangled rights and clearances, or more technical production needs. (The other possibility is that a number of classic fans have completely abandoned the series and its merchandise, but let’s avoid going into reasons why there and getting the thread deleted…)
Cully’s Pal
September 30th, 2025 - 4:36pmRex if I remember one piece which took longer to sell than usual was the Ood – I remember I couldnt decide whether to buy and actually got it a few day after release. Unheard of with most classic pieces.

September 26th, 2025 - 11:55amProbably not the right time or place, but i was very sad to (belatedly) hear that Christopher H Bidmead had passed away……

September 26th, 2025 - 1:12pmIt was sad Douglas. I enjoyed the stories he wrote and I enjoyed the stories done under his script editing run.
Douglas.
September 26th, 2025 - 1:29pmPretty much all the 1980s Dr Who writers were brilliant……
I always laugh derisively, remembering how a teenage Chris Chibnall dared to critisise Pip and Jane Baker…..
Unlike him, they knew how to write excellant, humourous stories……
Even the worst thing they ever wrote (Time and the Rani) was over a hundred times better than anything Chris could ever do, or ever did…..

Eric Saward…..? Earthshock, Resurrection, Revelation……
Timeless classics…..!
Missyrules
September 28th, 2025 - 4:15pmNot joking his stories are very much style over substance. His stories have huge plot holes in and in terms of revelation the doctor is an afterthought who has so little to do with the story. Also in that story the people who torture and beat up a woman are used as comic relief and get rewarded at the end when the doctor tells them how to use the plant. Both his dalek stories are over complicated with too many plots and too many plot holes. And before you say I’m too young to appreciate them I saw them as a teenager on first broadcast. You are entitled to your opinion mine is that saward is not a great writer and was a terrible script editor. In an interview in dwb he stated “50% of the stories in my time were cr*p.” well it was at his door for that as his job as script editor was to fix them!
Douglas
September 28th, 2025 - 4:26pmIt was certainly different times, back in the 80s…..

But regarding massive plot holes in 80s Dr Who….here’s the one that’s driving me bezerk….

September 30th, 2025 - 11:47amAlso how is the brig retired in 1977 when invasion is meant to be set around 1977 and Sarah Jane says she is from 1980 meaning the time warrior unit sequence must be set around then.

September 30th, 2025 - 11:51amOops invasion is, set around 1975/6 Abominable snowmen is circa 1935 and web is forty odd years later and invasion is five years after web so invasion is somewhere between 1974-1979
