From ‘Terror of the Vervoids’ 1986“

All animal-kind is our enemy, Professor. Even you.”

Terror of the Vervoids is framed by the trial of the Sixth Doctor, a trial by the High Council of Time Lords led by the Valeyard, accusing the Doctor of interfering in the affairs of other species. In his defence, the Doctor tells of an account from his own personal future, set on board the Hyperion III space liner in the year 2986 AD. Upon answering a distress call, the Doctor and his companion Mel arrive on the liner where a sinister new life-form is about to bring death and disaster to the passengers and crew.

This new life-form are Vervoids, artificially created humanoid plants, created as a slave species to be taken in stasis to Earth in pods. Accidentally awoken early from their pods, the Vervoids instinctively hate ‘animal-kind’ and will kill all for survival. The Doctor ultimately destroys the Vervoids, whilst also helping to thwart a mutiny on board the Hyperion III.

Back in the courtroom, the Doctor is asked if any of the Vervoids survived and he informs the court that none did; if even a leaf had survived and reached Earth, a Vervoid would have grown. Seizing on this, the Valeyard accuses the Doctor of committing genocide…

Hi Judooning. I haven’t recieved a dispatch e-mail yet either. I assume that they dispatch them in stages as 200 odd figurines will take a few days to get out.

      Cheers guys.
Not in my spam folder. But if you haven’t received one yet, Jay, then it’s a bit more reassuring.
I was a late comer when ordering this so I probably have one of the later numbers

I have been collecting these on and off for about 10 years (since I saw their TARDIS and Forth Doctor at the 50th anniversary event) and they are all pretty fab. I’m curious though. They are all numbered limited editions, so why does it seem that the lower numbers are more highly sought after? Are they even sent out in order?

Thanks Coleman. Still quite a lot left then. It does makes me wonder if they will reduce the number for Styggron.

Yes, I’m dreading the Edition going down to 150 again, there so expensive to buy on Ebay etc if you miss out on getting one straight from Harrops on day of release.

Perhaps it is more difficult for people in the run up to Christmas – but these will sell out. They always do.

I don’t know why its necessary for it to sell out in one day nor is it practical from any point of view, surely? To have stock around for a fortnight I’d say is a better way; those avid collectors are a lot less likely to miss out and anyone else that sees it and fancies it can jump in, even if it’s just for that particular item. I’d much prefer it myself if this were the approach which Harrops took.

Did anyone else have an issue with the postage costs ? I live in Northern Ireland and normally for each figure I get charged £7.50 but this time they charged me £20 !!!! I’ve emailed them to see if this was a mistake but I’ve had no reply yet

Are you a Friend of Harrop? I know what you mean about being charged £7.50 for postage, but with the “Friends” 10% Discount that £7.50 is immediately taken off.

Ordered myself one. The last Harrop figurine I got was the Special Weapons Dalek and I love it, so having a unique 6th Dr monster in the collection is gonna be great!

The first ever Figurine I bought from Harrops was the SWD.
Still 94 figures left as of 11.00 am.
I’m abit worried, this is the Third Figure in a row not to sell out straight away.
I hope things pick up soon as I don’t want to go back to an Edition of just 150 again.
They were a real pain to get hold of, and super Expensive on the Secondary Market.

      December 2nd, 2022 - 11:41am

The ones that didn’t sell out strait away, have they sold out now?

    • Jay

      December 2nd, 2022 - 11:46am

I think some of it might have to do with people struggling for money at the moment Coleman. I really wanted the Vervoid but decided to miss out on the Dominator’s one’s. This is the first Harrop I have bought this year. Looks really good. Glad you and Ergon managed to get yours.

    • Coleman

      December 2nd, 2022 - 11:56am

Judooning, Dominator, Quark and of Course Vervoid still haven’t sold out yet.
Yes Jay, I was thinking the same thing, most people are struggling with Money at the moment.

      December 2nd, 2022 - 12:30pm

I did order one, as it is a really striking figurine, but I thought twice about it. Like others, I wonder if these more expensive pieces, while absolutely worth it for the quality, are becoming simply unfeasible for more folk?

I hope they stay at these numbers for production but I can see Harrops worrying about stock hanging around. Having said that, quite a few of the earlier ones, such as Scaroth and Broton were in stock for ages. Suppose it depends on what sales figures gives them a good return on their investment.

As you say Coleman, the limited characters are just too expensive on the collectors market!

    • The ergon

      December 2nd, 2022 - 1:34pm

Some of the early editions like the invasion cyberman had 500-750 units thats why they hung around on the site for an age. 200-225 makes them just unique enough to justify limited edition.

    • Doug Who

      December 2nd, 2022 - 3:03pm

The two I mentioned were editions of 300 and SV7 which was also available for ages was 250…and they were cheaper! They all sold out eventually.

Five hundred is still fairly ‘limited’ in the collectors figure market but clearly there are around two hundred customers will buy immediately. The point being made is that even with the very limited numbers, the last few haven’t sold out instantly.

    • The ergon

      December 2nd, 2022 - 4:15pm

Moneys tight for some but they will sell out. The problem i think is people are starting to see these on ebay and are waiting the long game for prices to drop significantly. You can get most if not all if you wait long enough depending how much you are willing to pay. A lot of sellers refuse to budge on price but the buyers are just hoping they become desperate enough for them to really lower the price as there is always competition for multiple peices of the same. Regulars aside other
Buyers dont feel the need to rush to buy these as they once did, knowing they could easily drop on one anytime.

    • Coleman

      December 2nd, 2022 - 5:15pm

Doug Who/ergon, I’m fine if the numbers go down to the 200- 225 mark, it makes them quite Small Editions, but still fairly easy to obtain.
I wouldnt be too happy with the Edition at 150 again though, they sell out in a flash and with there rarity people seem to think they can charge £250-£300 for them on the aftermarket.
      (Which isn’t on really).

We should get them next week. Whos up for styggron? Im thinking maybe end of january there. I,m hoping so.

    • Jay

      December 2nd, 2022 - 6:43pm

Yes Ergon. I will be getting Styggron as well. The Vervoid came up earlier than I thought, but I’d say end of January, maybe February. I’m sure we will be seeing what he looks like soon on the website.

It,ll be a cracker when painted jay. Any speculative thoughts on next years other choices, or ones youd like to see in your collection?

    • Jay

      December 2nd, 2022 - 7:19pm

I would love to see maybe an Ogron, or Magnus Greel and Mr Sin. Maybe a Primord from Inferno or the Destroyer from Battlefield. There are quite a few I’d love to see. Which one’s would you like to see ergon?

    • The ergon

      December 2nd, 2022 - 7:51pm

All the ones you mention jay or maybe some of the ones i listed below. There are just too many. A visitation set would be nice.
I think once a year Harrops should do one from the modern series. A saturnyme, peg doll Amy, sandman spring to mind. Spoilt for choice from both eras. I have a list longer than both my arms and i have really long arms.

    • The ergon

      December 2nd, 2022 - 8:15pm

Which magnus greel? Masked or melty faced?

    • Jay

      December 2nd, 2022 - 9:44pm

Probably masked as that was the one we saw most of, though the melty faced version would also be good. They might not want to do Magnus Greel though unless they can do a removable head version with both. As I suspect fans will want both versions. I like your idea for a Visitation set. I would also like more modern series one’s as well as you say. At the moment Harrops seem to be sticking with classic, though next year would be a good time to do more modern one’s as well. We’ll have to see. I like your suggestions though.

  • the ergon

    December 2nd, 2022 - 8:35am

I,ve been thinking of figurines like Meglos or The Collector but the human faced figurines aren,t often visually impressive and struggle to sell out. I think i,d like to see that foamasi next year even a Cryon or The watcher shouldn,t be too difficult to achieve if Styggron is anything to go by. Someone even mentioned Menoptera due to a lack of figurines from his Era.
