Jodie Whittaker Returns to Doctor Who

Big Finish Productions, in partnership with BBC Studios, today announces the first ever Thirteenth Doctor audio dramas as Jodie Whittaker returns to the Whoniverse alongside Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan.
Jodie Whittaker returns to Doctor Who

First seen on screen in 2017, Jodie Whittaker made TV history as the first female incarnation of the beloved Time Lord in Doctor Who.

Now she’s back in a brand-new series of twelve, hour-long, full-cast audio adventures in time and space, due to be released from July 2025. By her side in the TARDIS, as ever, will be her best friend Yaz, once again played by Mandip Gill.

Jodie Whittaker said: “I’m over the moon to be joining Big Finish for more adventures in the TARDIS. Recording the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz is a really lovely thing to revisit. One of the things Mandip and I used to love on Doctor Who was getting in, doing a new episode and meeting a brand-new cast. I just can’t wait to step back into the boots, pull on the coat and get cracking. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be brilliant.”

Mandip Gill added: “Doctor Who has been a huge part of my career and personal life and I am looking forward to seeing how I can further enrich my character through this exhilarating series. To be able to work with Jodie again is a dream come true, we have such a special friendship, I’m sure the recordings will be filled with laughter.”

Big Finish’s Chairman, Jason Haigh-Ellery said: “This year Big Finish is celebrating its 25th anniversary of producing full-cast Doctor Who audio drama – so, when we were granted the licence to create new stories set during the Thirteenth Doctor’s era, we immediately set to work.

“I am delighted that the inimitable Jodie and Mandip have decided to return to their roles with us and I’m excited to welcome them to Big Finish. Alongside our two other forthcoming series for the Fugitive Doctor (played by Jo Martin) and the Master (played by Sacha Dhawan), 2025 has never looked brighter for the Thirteenth Doctor and her fam.”

Big Finish’s Creative Director, Nicholas Briggs added: “Jodie and Mandip were so welcoming to me when I worked on set with them in the TV show, so I’m looking forward to repaying the compliment. They’re lovely people and they’re full of enthusiasm for this project.”

Big Finish listeners can now pre-order The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures, starting at just £11.99 (per story on collector’s edition CD + download) or £9.99 (download only) exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.

A complete series multibuy bundle of all twelve releases is also available to pre-order at the specially discounted price of £126 (on collector’s edition CD + download) or £102 (download only), again exclusively from the Big Finish website.

All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.

Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

FH. 31st October 2021 Jodie and Mandip filmed the last scenes. nearly 3 years ago real time. The Specials were held over to 2022. 2017 – 2022 on screen.

According to Doctor who twitter feed.

I adored Josie and Mandip and the 13th Doctor and Yaz, and all the Fam. Im an old long in the tooth DW fan and I found Her Doctor to be so joyful in a way capaldi never was but Matt Smith often was in moments .

More Please. I do Hope Chris Chibnall has a script they never got to make ready and waiting. Would be nice like RTD has written for BF.

Series 13 has about 7 episodes they could use, because I’m pretty sure war of the Sontarans, village of the angels, and legend of the sea devils are three of those 10 episodes. As this is being announced as a box set, you can imagine that it is not lost series 13 episodes, but fingers crossed they commission 13th Doctor lost stories after this set.

People forget (some wilfully) that covid had a serious effect on Jodie’s era. More complicated working conditions meant reduced seasons. I loved Jodie (and I’m 54) so the fact she signed up to big finish is great for her fans. I don’t think you will see Matt for many years yet and I get the impression capaldi was somewhat disillusioned by his time on the show. He never seemed happy doing interviews and he’s not accepted big finishes offers yet and I’m sure they must have asked by now.

I’m delighted, but a little wary. I loved these two, but I personally never had an issue with his Chibs either. I always thought he was a great writer, and Flux is one the whole series’ greatest ever achievements. In my experience, Big Finish’s writers simply don’t compare. I recognise they have a difficult task (why they don’t use linking narration is beyond me) but it’s simply not as good. But I’m delighted for the two of them. Could even be persuaded to listen anyway.

I think David Banks said it best, “excellent”! I think Jodie is a good actress and it’ll be very interesting to listen to this, as both her and Mandip deserve another shot at it. Hoping it contains some cut series 13 content as it’s as interesting to me as lost season 23 is.

Good for Jodie and Mandip! This is brilliant news. Poor Jodie had so much flack, and as a very very long-time Dr Who fan, I thought she was brilliant in the role! I really liked Yasmin too. Yes, this merchandise that I am very interested in purchasing! Well done Big Finish!

Here’s hoping Big Finish can work their magic like they did with the 6th Doctor and Jodie can finally have a decent team behind her!

Very interested to see this series come out. Not too long since she left the role. Presumably this series will take place in between Revolution of the daleks and flux. Will be strange and exciting in equal measure!

    Lovely news.

On the “merchandise” front: I’m guessing BF aren’t doing vinyl anymore? Those (as it turned out pretty woeful) ‘Eccleston’s back!’ stories were on vinyl, for example.

I’m hoping for more vinyl. Will ask them when I go Brit Scifi event! I’ve been told it’s too expensive to produce.

I’d heard the same as The Fishmonger there – vinyl was proving increasingly expensive to manufacture and very long lead times from the (limited capacity) factories – and that the vinyl editions weren’t selling all that well.

That could be a very obscure reference to how Fox advertised the 1996 Doctor Who movie. One of the tag lines was “The Doctor is back and it’s about time!” It could be taken two ways: in its normally interpreted way and it’s about meaning the story is about time being the central character is a time traveler.
