Hunters of Earth (Destiny of the Doctor 1)

Doctor Who: Hunters of Earth (Destiny of the Doctor 1)

Audio producers Big Finish and AudioGo are working together on a series of eleven special Doctor Who stories to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show next year.

The series will feature one Doctor per month.

Shoreditch, London, 1963. The Beatles have beaten John Smith and the Common Men to No. 1 and satellites are being launched in outer space. Back down on Earth, strange goings-on are occurring: The normally placid teenagers of Coal Hill are running riot and a master thief is stealing highly specialised equipment. Schoolgirl Susan Foreman just wants an easy life for herself and her grandfather, the mysterious Doctor.

She wants to be liked and accepted by Cedric and all the other pupils at Coal Hill School. But there’s trouble in in the streets and bombsites around Totter’s Lane. The teenagers are becoming dangerous…. Their mission: to hunt down anyone different, or alien…. Susan’s quiet life is about to spiral out of control. Having inadvertently started drawing attention to herself she finds herself drawn into a desperate situation. Suddenly, the chase is on and she and her grandfather are now the hunted…

Is there a sort of ongoing theme throughout these, or are they just a series of stories with an overall name. I would rather the second, I think a contrived arc would be a bit too much for a celebratory story.

There is indeed an ongoing theme, which is strongly hinted at early in this first story story, and made plain at the end.

The general template is all right, but the cover image itself is ridiculously boring and lacking.

I like it, it’s nice and simple. Nothing too bright or extravegant.

Any chance of a signing with Nigel Robinson or Carole Ann Ford anywhere? I’d love to meet them both.

Looking forward to getting this! From the fourth Doctor onwards, will they be Companion Chronicles style, or full-cast audios?

I expect from 4th doctor onwards (I hope at least) that they’ll be more like full cast audios. I hope they are more like the big finish audio, rather than the bbc fourth doctor adventures (Hornets nest ect.) cos they are rubbish. Its just tom reading the story with a couple of acting bits. I much prefer the big finish audios!

I really enjoyed the Hornet’s Nest series, the stories were great and I think that the method of storytelling was nice in a very different way. The Doctor Chronicles, I like to describe it as 🙂

      There won’t be.

It takes place before an Unearthly Child (the first Televised episode) and “the Daleks” which is the first time the Doctor meets the Daleks.

I love the CCs, but had hoped they might get in the guy who did the recon of Planet of the Giants. Would be good to have a full cast story with the first team for the 50th!

This CD is going to be made in the style of the companion chronicles, which I don’t think is right to celebrate such a MASSIVE cornerstone. And I know everyone’s gonna reply sarcastically saying ‘So what, you think they should resurrect Hartnell and bring him back for this story?’, no, I just don’t think it will do it justice.

Sad. 5 years ago, we lost Verity Lambert. RIP, you will never be forgotten. Thank you for creating a show that will sear onto our hearts for ever. You will be remembered for generations… The story goes on…
