On Saturday 23rd November, the BFI Southbank will be screening Doctor Who: The Curse of Fenric (from the Special Edition Blu-ray) and holding a Q&A with actor Sophie Aldred and script editor Andrew Cartmel. Tickets are available from the BFI on the following dates:

Was there ever a McCoy Years VHS release that could be included?

Is it likely Daleks The Early Years and Cybermen will be included on their Season sets as I have never seen either before?

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 6:15pm

Daleks on season 1. Cybermen on season 4. That’s what I’d do. Think they stopped by the time they got to sylvester

      September 4th, 2019 - 1:53pm

Yeah – they missed out Davison, did Colin Baker and then missed McCoy annoyingly….

  • Mrs Croot

    September 3rd, 2019 - 5:52pm

What about the TV movie as this would of been the place for it?

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 6:08pm

Looks like it will get its own release as part of a wilderness years set

  • Type 40

    September 3rd, 2019 - 5:30pm

Instant pre-order. I’m really looking forward to this set.

  • Gordon

    September 3rd, 2019 - 4:45pm

The jnt documentary showman was produced by Chris chapman and is over 80 minutes long. The writers room was also produced by him.

The curse of fenric making of was produced by Kablam! Writer Pete McTighe

That Ace clip was cool, It would be great to have her in the show again meeting the new Doctor. That door, how very console room!

Are they still releasing these in the US? I’ve only seen the first and last of baker and the the first for Davison.

I wonder why it says ‘while stocks last’ as most of the others don’t say that…

    • booboo

      September 3rd, 2019 - 4:30pm

i added that this time because they keep selling out and people often visit old post, one day i will have to go around changing them all

      Okay, thank you.

  • Dean Wells

    September 3rd, 2019 - 2:41pm

Apart from the obviously fantastic content, these are worth buying for the packaging alone.
Every one has looked uniformly beautiful.

      September 3rd, 2019 - 3:04pm

I dread the moment they change the branding mid-releases.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 4:36pm

It’s already been stated that the branding will remain the same regardless of whether or not the branding changes

Pre-ordered!! Looks gorgeous. That trailer is amazing

  • Lee

    September 3rd, 2019 - 1:30pm

Great! Just ordered from Zoom. The date is a little close to Christmas though. I hope they’re going to take into account the Christmas Post, as it might take a little longer for delivery.

    • Rob W

      September 3rd, 2019 - 5:46pm

Zoom are pretty good as I’ve had releases the Saturday, 2 days prior to the release. They also do First Class/Next Day Drlivery but at an additional charge though.

    • Lee

      September 4th, 2019 - 4:42pm

True, but I wouldn’t pay £5 for next day Zoom delivery, otherwise you’d lose the benefit of the 10% discount code. If paying that, it would be the same price to get it from Amazon, which would come via Amazon logistics anyway, and not through Royal Mail. Even sending first class post from Zoom, I still think it could have a few days delay at Christmas time (unless we get lucky and RM is extremely efficient). Hoping they take it into account and decide to send them out a few days earlier than usual.

I’m not in any rush for it, but it would be great to get it before Christmas, if possible.

  • ChrisP

    September 3rd, 2019 - 1:25pm

    Looks great!
(though not expecting it’ll arrive till January!)
Wonder which one they’ll show at the BFI to promote it

      Curse of Fenric!

  • Kenny

    September 3rd, 2019 - 1:08pm

Definitely will pre-order this whenever it becomes available in my continent. Pleased to see that the rumors of them including the TV movie on this set are currently unfounded, leaves hope of them building a set around that and the Wilderness Years.

  • flint

    September 3rd, 2019 - 1:03pm

can’t wait. what do you think next years line up going to be?

    • The Flying Shark

      September 3rd, 2019 - 1:07pm

      I reckon 14, 6, 20 and maybe 2 or 9?

    • Gordon

      14, 6, 20 and 11

  • EndlessTimelord

    September 3rd, 2019 - 11:53am

Amazing! Andrew Cartmell was telling me about this at lfcc and couldn’t wait!

I have hope we’ll get it on time as season 10 was released with no delays.

Will it be up on zoom soon?

    • Daniel O’Brien

      September 3rd, 2019 - 12:19pm

      It’s on Zoom now.

      September 3rd, 2019 - 12:48pm

Let’s not get our hopes up too much…..Season 23 k Amazon has now been put back to 7th October. Unless, of course, they’ve slated Seaon 26 for 23rd December to give plenty of time for any delays. The gap between Season 10 and 23 is about 2 months. The gap between Season 23 and 26 is nearer to 3 months?

  • Chris Howarth

    September 3rd, 2019 - 11:43am

I Hope Nicholas Courtney’s episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures are included in this set.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 12:58pm

Might be better off on the time warrior as both the brig and the sontarans feature on both the time warrior and the 2 sja adventures eps.

  • dazzleshell

    September 3rd, 2019 - 11:15am

Looking forward to getting this. My first Doctor and favourite of Classic Who. The artwork is brilliant.

I hope they manage to bring the release forward by a week on this one though (with no delays) so I can enjoy it over Christmas.

30 years since Classic Who ended. Madness.

    • dazzleshell

      September 3rd, 2019 - 12:53pm

The trailer is great with the nod to what we learned in SJA Death of the Doctor.

      Just ordered it from Zoom.

(Waiting for the usual comments about price versus episode count, especially since it is £1 more than previous releases).

Buying For My Doctor Can’t Wait For This To Be Out

  • BeeversMaster

    September 3rd, 2019 - 10:50am

I have all of these so far and blimey they are magnificent!

I cannot wait for this to come out.

  • David

    September 3rd, 2019 - 10:00am

This set looks amazing! They’ve truly done it again with these features and the artwork too! Quick question though, I understand that you have broadcast versions and then extended versions of specific stories, but for what is a “work print” version of Ghost light?

    • Anonymous

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:11am

It’s an extended version, but since the deleted scenes do not exist in broadcast quality they called it that.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:19am

The deleted scenes have a massive timestamp from what I can remember

    • David

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:25am

Oooh right I get you! Sounds amazing to ha e so much included on the set. The JNT documentary is perhaps on of the selling point along with the set as a whole for me.

    • The Mysterious Stranger

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:24am

To expand a little further on the Ghost Light work print edition.

Almost all the episodes from this era exist as 71 edits, which is the name given to the initial rough cut of the episode before they had to be cut down to the standard 25 minutes. Often these 71 edits are used a basis for the restorations because they’re the highest quality masters

Sadly, these don’t survive for Ghost Light and the only deleted material that does survive is low-quality timecoded VHS footage. Yet, Ghost Light is largely cited as a story that would benefit from an extended edit, it was even considered during its production extending it from 3 episodes to 4. So, because of the limited source material it’s being treated as a ‘what-if’ edition, rather than as a special or extended edition, as per other stories, such as Battlefield and Fenric, hence ‘work print’ edition.

    Beautiful design!

  • Robert Sienicki

    September 3rd, 2019 - 9:14am

Weren’t there a speculations about adding Wilderness Years to this release? Or the rumour was about separate release for them?

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 9:42am

It was speculation based upon peter crocker mentioning the TV movie might appear on a s26 set. It seems that it won’t be the case though

    • Neill Stringer

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:39am

Is there a possibility the TV movie and wilderness years could still be a release and give Paul McGann his cover?

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:00am

After Seeing what they manage to cook up for season 23 and 26 I can definitely see it.

    • dazzleshell

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:20am

I expect we will get a Wilderness Years Collection separately in the future. Including the TV Movie, Comic Relief special etc…

I still can’t see us getting Dimensions in Time though. Unless some of sale goes towards Children in Need and surviving cast agree to it. It was made on understanding it wouldn’t be released apparently.

  • Gordon

    September 3rd, 2019 - 9:08am

Cracking set of extras. 3 versions of battlefield and curse. A workprint of ghost light. A making of for curse of fenric. A Matthew sweet in conversation with Sophie Aldred. Writers room with all the s26 writers and Andrew Cartmel. A feature length documentary on jnt. Marek anton back discussing the destroyer. There is plenty to like.

  • The ergon

    September 3rd, 2019 - 9:03am

Ghostlight extended workprint. I may purchase when i find out more whats been done. This particular story would benefit also from optional updated special effects

  • DWSeblingg

    September 3rd, 2019 - 8:47am

Yes! I’m so excited for this. This is the only one I’m going to get and hopefully go to the screening to.

  • Anonymous

    September 3rd, 2019 - 8:37am

Bit disappointed with the extras on this given where the bar was set on the previous sets. Plus Janet grates on me in Behind the Sofa as she quite rudely talks over the top of the other guests.

    • philip Shaw

      September 3rd, 2019 - 9:38am

I imagine there are more features to be announced as it seems a bit sparse for 7 discs. Perhaps the TV movie may be included…maybe not though as McGann is not on the cover and you would have thought he would have a small pic behind McCoy…

    • Toast Fright

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:08am

Janet Fielding is one of the highlights of Behind the Sofa. She’s a very funny person. She seems to intimidate a lot of of online fans, which is also very funny!

    • Paul Armstrong

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:15am

Janet does come across as fairly rude. I know the mouth on legs thing is a running gag, but let other people finish speaking. She kind of spoiled a lot of behind the sofa for me.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:25am

The TV movie won’t be on this. There is simply no room for it and it’s extras.

    • Albus Klimt

      September 3rd, 2019 - 6:27pm

I don’t find Janet intimidating, I just find her incredibly ill-mannered in these features

    • TigerMan1995

      September 4th, 2019 - 1:44am

I find Janet quite enjoyable on the Behind the Sofas.

Let’s hope Ghostlight looks better than previous releases.

Finally. Ghost Light will be restored slightly better.

  • TheMaster

    September 3rd, 2019 - 8:00am

Will it really be released Christmas week?

As companies tend not to release dvds/bluray around then normally.

  • Anonymous

    September 3rd, 2019 - 7:56am

    I love 7 but 23rd of December
    You can’t be serious???
    That’ll never arrive on time

    • Jason

      September 3rd, 2019 - 9:46am

Bearing in mind how often these releases are delayed by a week or more, it’ll probably be pushed back until early 2020!

  • Tardis7K

    September 3rd, 2019 - 7:50am

I don’t like the release date a little close to call
