Doctor Who The Essential Guide #4 The Master

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com

Panini’s latest Doctor Who bookazine is devoted to the Doctor’s deadliest enemy, the Master.

Originally played by Roger Delgado when the character was introduced in 1971, the Master is an evil Time Lord who has changed his face numerous times over the subsequent decades. The character made a sensational return to Doctor Who in 2014, in the surprising form of actress Michelle Gomez.

The Essential Doctor Who: The Master is a lavish and comprehensive publication featuring details of all the Master episodes in the series’ 52-year history. This issue features new interviews with writers and actors, previously unseen photographs and a wealth of behind the scenes information. No fan will want to be without this essential guide to the Doctor’s arch nemesis!

Does seem a tad odd that as Tony Ainley has played the Master longer than any one else he was left off…on reflection its a bit remiss…

Went to Forbidden Planet Newcastle yesterday and saw one copy there but didn’t buy it cos it was damaged. Then went to WHsmiths expecting to pick up my copy there and they said that they were not expecting it any time soon…

Queuing for WHSmiths to open at 10am this morning, they still don’t have any copies.

There must be printed in stages, as they do have a 3 month shelf life or more. I guess in a weeks time they’ll be more widely distributed.

It won’t. It’s just a cover featuring the most well known incarnations to get sales.

Roger Delgado would have been the perfect actor to play Dracula. Absolutely perfect, from Stoker’s description. Pity he died too soon!

I know his only had 6 appearances [5 classic series and 1 new series], but I’d sure love the Essential Doctor Who do one all about Davros !! πŸ˜€

He is after all one of the all time greats of Doctor Who history, and they could do pages talking about all his other adventures from Big Finish audio, Doctor Who Magazine comic-strips, BBC Books novels etc.

They could even talk about the various Davros figures, models and whatever else has been available down the years πŸ™‚

If you count Big Finish and Books the Great Intelligence is in 7 stories, with Zygons in 3 TV Stories (That includes Shada), 3 books, 4 comics and 3 audio stories.

Delgado, Simm and Gomez – fair enough, three of the more iconic versions of The Master. But why on Earth not Ainley? He is quite possibly THE most iconic version of The Master!

Still reading #3: Alien Worlds. Excellent if you haven’t purchased it. I hope this is more essay than episode based as a guide. The latter is more common and the former is far more interesting.
