B&M 2021 The Keys of Marinus Figure Set

Character Options is delighted to announce its first new wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for 2021 with four new lines scheduled to arrive in B and M stores across the country in Mid-August.

This exciting launch will introduce two more action figure trios plus two additional special collectors’ packs for Dalek Fans. Each and every set of this detailed series will include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come presented in the ‘heritage’ Doctor Who packaging with specially created insert artwork.

From a classic episode of 1964 is The Keys of Marinus Collector Figure three figure Set. This Ian Chesterton Action Figure depicts one of The Doctors very first companions and is accompanied by not one but two Voord Warrior Action Figures with dagger accessory.

The evil Voord Warriors of the Planet Marinus with its arid land and acid seas are extremely memorable because of their truly unique design and are replicated in this classic set. Again this comes with a detailed insert card.

Looking at the Ian figure in the different shots, the front-on shot looks like the Jamie Foreman version from the David Bradley audios, whereas the side-on (ish) view in the box looks a lot more like William Russell!

I’m Liskeard way so I’m quite lucky with stores here in Liskeard, Launceston, Bodmin etc but normally travel to Saltash as they seem to get them in first but any help will be appreciated as don’t really want to travel round all the Plymouth stores this time cheers

Love this set. Loved this story. And finally an original companion. So glad Ian is part of this set. How accurate is it? It would’ve been better if they could’ve done his look for that story as a variant using wrap around if possible but happy with this and it’s the look we all want, so if this is the only one we get, then brill. Really hope we get a Barbara and Susan too, next year hopefully, and accurate.

Voords look great, atleast there’s some differences too.

It’s looking likely there will be atleast 1 5th Dr companion in the next wave. Adric or Tegan is my bet.

Never thought I’d see a Voord action figure.

Ian’s body mold though….would be a perfect McQueen Master

His body mold is Simm’s Master.

      Nearly there then.

Voord and Sensorites!? Can you believe it? In B&Ms? Could anyone, even a few years ago, imagine ever getting these figures? Amazing. Can’t believe anyone is griping about these. And there’s an Ian figure too! Well done Al and CO

IAN!!! AT LAST!! Now all we need is Susan and Barbara and our Original Team will be complete AT LAST!!

4 lovely sets (after a beautiful TARDIS set). Superb execution of the creatures (thank God for that Axon base body!), good ‘army builders’ with just enough variation- and the Chesterton everybody called for (and the digital sculpt’s a real triumph!).
Seems like a phenomenal year for the line, yet more evolution on from what we’d have still expected from a ‘budget’ line very recently, and I’m very grateful.
Fingers crossed distribution works out this year, because the situation last year was a real shame for so many (including Character/B&M). If that’s solved: amazing!

This set is nice I’d buy it just for the Ian figure to go with my First Doctor and Tardis hopefully we will get a Barbara and Susan in the future.
The Voord look awesome so I might have room for these as they look so cool, they always reminded me of a sort of proto Cyberman with the handles on their heads.

Cunningly done by CO. New head sculpts for the Voord and Sensorites but using the same body for each. Fantastic business sense.

If anyone from Character reads this then i thank you for these excellent sets.

      August 2nd, 2021 - 9:07pm

It’s a modified Axon Man mould. That one was always going to come in useful!

We just need the Barbara & Susan to go with him

One can hope it’ll be soon since this and the Sensorites sets show we’ve got a 1st Doctor theme right now.

Ian Chesterton figure! Absolutely fantastic! Hopefully Susan and Barbara get their own figure releases too. Also I hope Jamie and Victoria or Zoe get released at some point. Desperately need companion figures from the second Doctor era. Plus of course, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric for the fifth Doctor. Don’t ask for much do I. 🙂

Susan, Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Tegan, Nyssa, Ruth Doctor, and Sacha Dhawan are my most wanted figures in the line. Glad I can cross one off my list!

The Invasion of the Bane Sarah Jane Smith could make a decent Barbara and Time Monster Jo Could be used to make Vicki.

Is it just me or is the b&m sets going to go up to 24.99 to cover the costs of making the figures or will it remain at 19.99

    • booboo

      August 2nd, 2021 - 5:47pm

think they are £19.99 still but with costs and shipping going up who knows

    August 2nd, 2021 - 5:02pm

Excellent stuff – that figure of Ian is superb. Hopefully some new Troughton stuff soon a Wheel in Space set and a Dominators set would be fantastic.

    • Rex Farrel

      August 2nd, 2021 - 6:07pm

Would you want Dominators or Wheel sets without any villains though? You’d have to seriously compromise the accuracy to include them without expensive new sculpts. A Toba or Rago without the feathery look on the limbs could be possible, but anything more would surely be over the budget.

  • Prototype dalek

    August 2nd, 2021 - 4:55pm

Never thought they’d be an Ian

  • Alan

    August 2nd, 2021 - 4:20pm

Lovely, would have liked to see Ian in his Marco/Marinus outfit with a later suited version though.

      August 2nd, 2021 - 9:11pm

As always I’m really excited for these sets.

I’m really thankful for Al and character options for producing these sets and keeping the classic range going

Can I get B&M sets in the US?

  • Judooning

    August 2nd, 2021 - 4:02pm

  • Chaz Hardee

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:56pm

How can I get these in the US? I am able to use UK and AU sites. Which sites will have these?

    • booboo

USA via Gogs1 on amazon although suggestion is that’s about to stop

  • MJS

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:39pm

This is the set I’m most excited for. An Ian figure. Who’d have ever thought we would see the day!!!

  • The Destroyer of Worlds

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:26pm

The lack of Barbara or Susan are a little disappointing for me.

    • daz

      August 2nd, 2021 - 5:35pm

Patience… They will no doubt be coming now we have Ian.

    • The Outcast

      August 2nd, 2021 - 5:56pm

I’m hoping they’ll be along later (though I think it’s unlikely that “later” will be this year, probably this time next year, unless the next CO online exclusive is those two).

We got Harry and then we got Classic Sarah the following year so…

Adric and Tegan for me if the rumoured Earthshock set turns out to be true.

  • Slitheen09

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:19pm

Absolutely love the Ian Chesterton figure!! Just wish we had Barbara and Susan.

  • Fledershrew

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:19pm

Wow – those Voord figures look Fab–u–lous. It’s astonishing to see and a huge testament to Doctor Who that fans are getting figures from the Keys of Marinus (originally broadcast in 1964!) in 2021.

  • Neutrobyte

    August 2nd, 2021 - 3:16pm

I find it strange that they did a passable William Russell head-sculpt and then stuck it on a James Lester body that doesn’t at ALL fit with his costume in The Keys Of Marinus (he wears the one from Marco Polo). They at least got the tie right though (I’d be inclined to open up the jacket).

    • Anonymous

      August 2nd, 2021 - 3:33pm

It’s actually a John Simm Master body from Series 3.

And Al Dewar explained in the announcement video that they chose the school teacher look because it’s more iconic than the Chinese dressing gown he wore in Keys of Marinus.

    • The Destroyer of Worlds

      August 2nd, 2021 - 3:55pm

In the video, Al Dewar stated that they chose to do the Suit version as they thought his Keys of Marinus look was a little too obscure, compared to his most iconic Suited look.

    • Rex Farrel

      August 2nd, 2021 - 5:44pm

More obscure and more expensive. A suited Ian figure was always a shoo in, a figure I would have bet my house on for the B&M line because of Character’s stock of suited figure moulds. But another decent job.
