January 15th, 2014 - 9:15pmI will do – the only thing I’ve watched so far is the coming soon trailer which IS for ‘Underwater Menace’ – ending with the immortal ‘nothing in the world can stop me now’ π
Some bloke
January 15th, 2014 - 10:45pmdoes the trailer make it look good? I mean the story isn’t bad, but the coming soon trailers always hype them up A LOT which, in my opinion, makes them even better! π
matparks08
January 16th, 2014 - 7:26pmIt’s quite a good trailer but the emphasis is definitely on the mad professor – just hope it’s not too many months away – if it IS the last one just want it faster so as to complete the collection.

January 12th, 2014 - 4:57pmLooking forward more of my favourite Second Doctor’s stories, the Moonbase to be released. Hopefully the Underwater Menace release in Spring or late spring, who knows? Also I am so excited to get The Web of Fear DVD in February!
Does anyone know the date roughly when The Underwater Menace is to be released in DVD?
Joe
January 12th, 2014 - 5:25pmAs far as I’m aware there has been no announcement for a release
Anonymous
January 12th, 2014 - 5:40pmThey have announced a release and that animation will be included (although the animation isn’t official, but has been confirmed by people involved with the release).
No date has been announced yet (this is speculated to be because the animation has only just begun and they don’t know when it will be ready).
gordon
January 12th, 2014 - 5:53pmIn September the restoration team tweeted that they were grading extras for menace. and a coming soon trailer for menace is on moonbase.i would pretty much take that as an anouncement.

January 12th, 2014 - 6:37pmMenace animation has been put on hold indefinitely. Also this could be true almost others had at least screenshots and clips months before.

January 12th, 2014 - 11:19pmThats just a rumour that is floating about. The interesting thing I just found out is on the planet 55 website on the section about listing different work they have worked on Stephanie youlten is listed as a producer of underwater menace.
MasterKasterborous
January 13th, 2014 - 12:33amBut more interesting is the other text around it. She is listed to have worked on it in 2013 which not only confirms their involvement but also that work was done last year but it seems work is not taking place this year as it doesn’t read 2013-2014 (and we also know that the website reads up to 2014 as there is a further result below that). This either means it’s cancelled/postponed or that it’s done. We’ll find out in due course.
Joe Roberts
January 14th, 2014 - 6:24pmThanks for the reply. Golly! All the doctor who DVDs are nearly on the store which leaves the ones with the missing episodes! What will be the future for the stories with missing episodes, who knows?

January 12th, 2014 - 1:21pmMost likely this, the ice warriors get’s a little boring…

January 12th, 2014 - 1:45pmHard to say. There is a big split in peoples favour for one or the other. Have you seen the Ice Warriors Animation and have you seen the reign of terror/tenth planet animation?

January 12th, 2014 - 5:59pmThen I’m sure you will like this one π
Joe Roberts
January 14th, 2014 - 7:04pmI think Planet 55 is much better than the Ice Warriors animation. I think the Ice Warriors is good, but the story is ok but the lines are little lame. Some actors/actresses react in fear were sound a little childish. I think the animation is making the Ice Warriors better.

January 12th, 2014 - 12:05pmThe pictures look amazing. I hope the animation is improved over The Tenth Planet. It’s odd how the Cybermen have had the most animated episodes.

January 11th, 2014 - 9:42pmI hope if the underwater menace is the last DVD Dan and his team are releasing i hope they go all out on it and let it have like 2 disks of special features plus the animated episodes. Wish this release would have more special features as there is only 1 documentary.
gordon
January 12th, 2014 - 12:23amOnly 2 documentaries for underwater menace I hear so probably just a single disc. Already confirmed by Dan hall is Fishy tales which is a making of and tv centre of the universe part 2 (part 1 was on visitation special edition)
drjakeyoung
January 12th, 2014 - 2:46pmThat’s a shame. No “final DVD” documentary looking over the range or anything?
The Cyber Squirrel
January 12th, 2014 - 3:27pmThe could release the crusade that could be animated
Anonymous
January 12th, 2014 - 5:42pmCrusade could be animated but they won’t do it. The official reason is that some of the actors are “blacked up” so they are scared that somebody will kick up a stink if they were to animate actors with make-up to make them look like people of another race (and let’s face it, somebody will).
gordon
January 12th, 2014 - 6:06pmThe question of a restoration team doc has come up in the past but Steve Roberts and co don’t seem keen on the idea. Regarding crusade aswelll as the reason mentioned by anonymous there isn’t any unreleased ep monsters and is a historical which apparently sell less. Reign hadnt been released before on dvd. 10th planet moonbase ice warriors and invasion all had classic monsters. Menace has an unreleased ep. Crusade doesnt have any of those sales boost advantages.
Anonymous
January 12th, 2014 - 6:43pmBearing in mind Dan and co are not working on enemy or web so maybe more missing material on way.
Anonymous
January 12th, 2014 - 8:29pmThat’s got nothing to do with it. Dan and co were the last ones to hear the news about the 2011 recoveries, their choices will not have been affected by a recovery.

January 11th, 2014 - 7:35pmthis animation looks like it will be better than the animation in the ice warriors.
Lachie
January 11th, 2014 - 11:21pmit will, the animation studio Planet 55 also did ‘The Tenth Planet’ and the ‘Reign of Terror’ and right now are probably BBC’s goto for Animation since this release and ‘The Underwater Menace’ will be using the same studio.
Some bloke
January 11th, 2014 - 11:31pmNot necessarily Lachie, apparently animation on Underwater Menace has stopped. Don’t know why just yet, but apparently it has π

January 12th, 2014 - 11:31amwhere did the rumour come from because until the bbc says something im not on-board
gordon
January 12th, 2014 - 12:14pmthe rumour originated from a guy on Twitter called Darren gregory . He has a history of saying things to try and force announcements out of Phil morris and the restoration team.None of his previous info has been correct so would take it as rumour at the moment
Handbot10
January 12th, 2014 - 2:26pmThe animation in the tenth planet looked like animie a bit. I really hope they animate the power of the daleks and the highlanders.

January 12th, 2014 - 6:41pmAre you having a laugh Dave Gregory has been spot in many time Darren Gregory on other hand is a tool and constant hoaxer in the past
Lachie
January 13th, 2014 - 12:48amYeah i would take it as a rumour with nothing to it, although discussing the topic i think “The Tenth Planet” and others by Planet 55 look like Anime as well. Maybe that’s why i like it the most π i wish they could just do something out of it and animate all the missing episodes because Planet 55’s work on Doctor Who has been amazing and i prefer it alot more, i was always hoping for something like an Animated Series of all the old Doctor Who’s missing and available from Season 1 to the end of Season 6, it’ll never happen though haha

January 11th, 2014 - 3:03pmJust wish they would have got cosgrove to annimate not planet 55 but i Dont mind quiros and the web will be the same as we seen as its not done by Dan hall’s team as they were kept out the loop.
gordon
January 11th, 2014 - 6:19pmCosgrove hall went bust in 2009 and was far too expensive anyway (about 5 times the cost of reign of terror)
Lachie
January 11th, 2014 - 11:24pmwow, 5 times the cost! Planet 55 is better than Cosgrove Hall in my opinion anyway, i think Qurios Entertainment is my least favourite as a common complaint with the Animation of ‘The Ice Warriors’ i hated the way the arms were done

January 11th, 2014 - 12:20pmThe budget of the first 4 Doctor Who serial episodes, An Unearthly Child, was on a budget of only Β£2300. But my personal favourite Cybermen were the Earthshock variants.

January 13th, 2014 - 12:55amTo be honest, to say these early Dr Who’s were on a low budget is no great revelation or surprise. But they were doing cyborgs, Borgs and other similar robotic men long before anyone else was!

January 10th, 2014 - 11:26amI must say I agree about the moonbase animation pics in dwm, I am almost temped to buy it when it comes out but I am holding off for the reason I give before. I too can not wait for the web of fear (with or without episode 3) I still have a few hartnells , 3 baker t and most davisons to get ( having got enemy of the world , the ice warriors and terror of the zygons for xmas) I stoped loving who after davison untill mcgann . I like baker c on audio but I still can not stand mccoy.

January 9th, 2014 - 7:13amHow’s everyone’s Doctor Who Classic DVD Collection coming along? I started in July of 2012 and l’m almost finished! l’ll probably be done by the time the range has done. I have left 3 William Hartnell’s, 3 Patrick Troughton’s (still to come instore), 10 Peter Davison’s, 4 Colin Baker’s and 6 Sylvester McCoy’s. Any news on ‘Underwater Menace’ ?!?! rumour suggests Animation delayed indefinitely. Wouldn’t they have to finish the Animation anyway because of a Contract Agreement or so?

January 10th, 2014 - 7:50amhaha nice one! i bought 7 more today only 19 left to go now π I can’t wait for ‘The Web of Fear’ to be released such a classic so good to have been found again, although if there are more to come in the future from Phil whilst cataloguing all that material l’ll say the same no matter how many times its announced as it was last year. It has to be said though what on Earth is going on with ‘The Underwater Menace’?!?! we still haven’t seen fully remastered a copy of Episode 2 and its been years

gordon
January 10th, 2014 - 9:05amJust got the 3 to go this year. Regarding Underwater menace the plan was to animate it after moonbase (DWA reported it last month and stated the animation was at an embrionic state meaning just started) . Animation is rumoured to be canceled for menace. The thing is the origin of the rumour came from Darren Gregory on twitter who has a history of trying to goad phil morris and members of the restoration team into making anouncements. Just take it as a casual rumour at the moment

January 11th, 2014 - 9:50amgot them all on video first time round, and then got them all on dvd second time. Hard to believe now but it was just as exciting finding the new videos released (usually two at a time) in WHSmiths. Remember specifically ‘Robot’ and ‘Caves of Androzani’ coming out at the same time and telling my mum who bought them for me(I was 16 at the time) that ‘that would be it’. I told her that every month for about the next three years ;-)Will be sad when we get the ‘final’ dvd

January 7th, 2014 - 8:03pmwouldnt get your hopes up. Web of fear is only missing 1 ep and that’s not getting animated. Also rumours floating round that animation for underwater menace animation was halted 3 weeks ago. I can see 4 possibilities.
1. They found the eps
2. Bbcww have realised its more profitable to do recons ala web 3 than animations.
3. Sales of animated releases are not profitable enough and bbcww decided to cut their losses
4. They are following a potential lead.

January 8th, 2014 - 10:58amI don’t think it was ever due on the 6th of Jan as bbc shop first listed it. Think it was a mistaken listing on bbc shops part. Everywhere else had it listed 20th.

January 7th, 2014 - 10:55amI am holding off buying The Moonbase until the missing episodes saga is resolved. It seems that there are more episodes to come. Hopefully The web of fear episode 3 . Does anybody know if there is a commentary on the web of fear?
Some bloke
January 7th, 2014 - 11:17am1/2. No there won’t be. It’s been produced solely by BBCWW so the only extras/special features on there will be a coming soon trailer. Also, I understand what you mean about waiting to buy this to see if they have found the other two episodes but I think there may be a very, very, very small possibility that they might already be on there, because before they released The Reign of Terror, The Ice Warriors and The Tenth Planet, they uploaded small clips of animation for each release, however they haven’t done this with The Moonbase.
Some bloke
January 7th, 2014 - 11:21amSo I think that because no animated clips have been uploaded, I reckon they have found missing episodes 1 and 3 and have them ready to go on this release π HOPEFULLY (fingers crossed)
gordon
January 7th, 2014 - 11:22amMoonbase eps are animated. Test discs are doing the rounds for review reasons and the missing eps are animated and also has a trailer of underwater menace.
Some bloke
January 7th, 2014 - 11:26amOh, thanks for the info Gordon. Why have we not seen a little clip of the animation then? Usually we do
gordon
January 7th, 2014 - 12:09pmOutside of convention footage and those brief little clips of inside the tardis that was dropped from the dvd due to quality control we didn’t get anything posted online from reign unless I’ve missed something. From what I’m led to believe if you enjoy the style ofanimation for tenth planet you will enjoy moonbase animation.
Some bloke
January 7th, 2014 - 1:00pmThe animation in this style, I think, is slowly improving. ‘Reign’ was ok, it wasn’t too bad, and tenth planet seemed to be a definite improvement since Reign, so I’m hoping for good things with moonbase. Are you looking forward to this release gordon?
