B&M 2022 10th Doctor Figure Set

Missed Something? You can see every Collectors Series Set in our Interactive List.

Stocks have now arrived. Comments on this item be now be left in the Stocks Arrived Post.

Character Options is pleased to announce the next wave of Doctor Who figures for summer 2022, scheduled to land in B&M stores in September (but down to B&M when they put them out).

Each new addition to this line forms part of the 5.5” figure range and features new decoration as well as multiple points of articulation. The new sets come packaged in the familiar ‘heritage’ style Doctor Who collector packs; though, this time, there are a few changes that eagle-eyed fans might notice.

In this set, we have three all-new variants of the Tenth Doctor. The first figure depicted is the Tenth Doctor in his slightly brighter blue two-piece suit, pale blue shirt and burgundy tie that’s specifically tied to look like it did in The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith parts one and two.

The second figure is based on this same story but sees the Doctor wearing his iconic long duster style overcoat. The final figure of the Tenth Doctor is inspired by the comic book series The Tenth Doctor Adventures. This figure has a particularly ‘ragged’ look, with dirtied blue shirt, tie worn askew, and lower forearms exposed.

Al Dewar Creative Director commented “I think and hope the fans and collectors will really like these new sets. We have really spent time updating the look of the figures to make them different. The Eighth Doctor set, especially the TV movie and NOTD figures are a real delight and have a much more sophisticated look, befitting a modern action figure. I think they are the best yet. The Tenth Doctor sets have a very different and fresh feel and come with two never released variants. The Dalek sets not only feature new packaging, but we have finally brought to the fans the Dalek Supreme and a fully transparent Dalek from Planet of the Daleks! And The Death to the Daleks set is also very close to my heart!”

Yep stores have had just the dalek sets. Others just the doctor sets while some have had all four sets. It’s totally random.

i think that it’s going to be early to mid-October now as there has been no word from b &m nor character

agreed, if you look at it over the past year or so, the sets have always been out about month over the intended release date, so thats what ive been going off

Couple of weeks more now, probably usual hold up affecting many other products.

Going through my figure collection recently, I had forgotten how many different head variants for the Tenth Doctor there are/were (not counting the ones with glasses), e.g. red spacesuit from 42; tuxedo; orange spacesuit from The Satan Pit; aged doctor from Last of the Time Lords…

Children do want these toys, not in great numbers I agree with you. Dr who is a series that has been on our screens for nearly 60 years. It’s multi generational, my dad got me into Who because he loved it as a child and likewise my sons watched new Who with me which made them want the toys. Children who were 10 when new Who started will be 27-28 when we get a new Dr. Some of those will be watching it with their children. Look at the age of some of the reviewers on youtube.
Dr who shouldn’t be a niche market as it’s still live, the 14th Dr is in place.
Starkey and Hutch action figures are a niche market. Dr Who figures only becomes niche when fans are not interested in what they are producing whatever their age.

I am one of those that watched New Who when it started aged 11 and am now 28, ready for the next Doctor and the return of Ace and Tegan!

Well I just dropped into B&M to buy a frying pan (and maybe to see if space was being cleared for Who sets…) and was saddened to see the Keys of Marinus set reduced from £5 to £3. It would appear some Dr Who is so niche they can’t give it away!

I know the majority will disagree with some of what I have to say if not all of it. Unless these are in very limited quantities most of these sets will sit on shelves for quite sometime. No child is going to want these, how exciting 3 doctors with know one to fight and no Sonics for £22. 2 are from a program which has been off the air and for over 10 years.I
Most avid collectors no matter how much of a completists will want these, they are not even accurate variants.
The eighth doctor set is better with 3 great figures but again 3 which quite a few of us own and again no child will think of this as a fun toy. Not as much as the 10th Dr set but again putting limits on its appeal. Releasing figures to fill collectors gaps with re-released figures is a good thing and I’m all for it but this whole wave is gap fillers with nothing new. The only set I will buy is death to the daleks set to add 2 more daleks from that story to my collection. The other dalek set iff you own them there is nothing there to get you to buy them again. The doctor in the K1 robot made me want it, it’s updated accurate paint apps are superb.
I know I’m ranting but that’s because there’s a new wave coming out which as collecting is my hobby i was looking forward too and there is nothing for me to buy. I don’t see it as saving me money I just see it as a let down.

    • Dave

      August 24th, 2022 - 9:05am

i doubt any kids buy these figure sets, i would wager 90% off purchases are by adults for themselves.
DW is back in the niche market.

    • The Oncoming Storm

      August 29th, 2022 - 10:12am

Doctor Who isn’t Niche at all. I don’t think the 5.5inch figures are necessarily made for kids. They’re collectors items for fans who bought the first waves to expand their collections I guess.

    • Billy Hatnell

      August 29th, 2022 - 12:07pm

I can see the Tennant and the December sets (bar Daleks & 1st Dr) all being peg warmers and down to £1 in the end. People are going to have to make hard choices to eat and heat, pay bills before leisure.

  • The Werewolf

    August 18th, 2022 - 8:18pm

I know this has probably been said a 100 times before but not very impressed by having 3 of the same character, and one most people already have loads of too.
That said if it gets reduced enough then I may get one just for the raggedy 10th and sell the others in a bundle.

  • AndrewY

    August 17th, 2022 - 1:13pm

Has anyone come across any of these sets in store yet?

    • booboo

  • Anonymous

Upon looking at it again, I think if the blue suit figures had the dark red shirt, it would actually be a very accurate figure from silence in the library / forest of the dead

      August 23rd, 2022 - 12:16pm

Just got a question how do people review these sets before they are in b&m stores where do they get them from and how?

    • booboo

      August 23rd, 2022 - 12:20pm

They get them at the say so of Character options and you now have to be offered them. They are advance samples ahead of the main stock but in this instance some have proved to differ from the production run. We used to get them but not any more.

  • The ergon

    August 13th, 2022 - 1:03am

Ive just been watching the youtuber ‘whotime’, who reviews the B and M sets annualy and i like his work transforming old b and m figures with milliput which he displays in the background. There was the gods of ragnarok which caught my eye in the corner and he has done a splendid job. I,m sure there was either a krynoid or could have been Erato in the top left hand corner as well.

  • Star Lord

    August 12th, 2022 - 8:36pm

Have no interest in the Raggedy Titan Comic Tenth, but would have happily bought the set for the two blue suit figures were it not for the lack of pinstripes. Not really as put out as others on here by the lack of new articulation, but no pinstripes is bizarre, especially when overall the paint apps and colours look lovely.

booboo, re: stock locator link and “B&M have a website now where if they add these sets you maybe able to check the stock position in any given store in which case that would be your best option”
Post anyway as its really helpful and you are a legend 🙂
Nothing better than other buyers flagging stock

    • booboo

      August 12th, 2022 - 9:45am

its a huge amount of work but will probably still do it, not sure how it works, if it updates at point of sale then fine but if it updates overnight it will be very unreliable in this instance

    • MJ

      August 12th, 2022 - 2:45pm

I wouldn’t be sure how much reliable their site would be, especially if in it’s infancy.
      Appreciate your work.

    August 11th, 2022 - 9:59pm

What to say about this set… The Dalek sets are nice, the 8th Dr set is odd but at least understandable but this… I love CO and the Doctor Who range and always try to be positive but there’s nothing here I like. If only it had the new articulation as originally intended. Although I have my own conspiracy theories as to why it didn’t happen in this set.

  • pupbenny

    August 11th, 2022 - 5:36pm

The thought occurs to me, is it kind of dangerous legal-wise for them to release these with inaccurate box-art saying the 10th Doctor with coat figure has ball-joints when it doesn’t? Couldn’t that be considered false advertising or something?

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 5:41pm

yes, but it depends if the actual stock says that and its not corrected / covered over.

This has all come from advanced samples, same with the hit and miss painting on The Daleks.

    • Alan

      August 11th, 2022 - 7:27pm

Are we sure he doesn’t have ball joints? I seem to remember there was one long jacket 10 which did have them. Maybe this is what’s being used?

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 7:52pm

according to reviews it doesn’t even though the box says so, there were a few on ebay a while but that’s definitely not the figure in the box.

Only time will tell what the actual set in-store has, also the production version of Dalek set 10 are all paint only half way round the mid section apparently.

    • pupbenny

      August 11th, 2022 - 8:21pm

I actually wouldn’t mind if the ball-joint 10th Doctor appeared as a CO Exclusive, maybe two for each suit colour, or, even better, that plus two more with the spiked hair sculpts.

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 8:36pm

the cynic in me might think once they knew 10 was back (which they probably wouldn’t have known when these were first put together), they would hold fire putting it in a “budget set” for better days and get far more mileage out of it.

    • Jamie D

      August 11th, 2022 - 10:00pm

Isnt there normally some kind of small print saying “Product subject to change” or something along those lines that would absolve them of any legal issues?

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 10:17pm

on an advanced pre-order yes, often, on the finalised box of the actual product on the shelf – well rarely, but a clear sticker saying “product may differ from that advertised”, or “contents may differ from that advertised” then maybe. Not very professional though.

I once new a person along time ago who had a job doing just that, putting a sticker on products where a “mistake” had been made.

  • Andrew Y

    August 11th, 2022 - 3:12pm

Apologies if this question has already been asked but do you think there will be a similar stock locator posted (with the map view of all UK stores) for these sets? 🙂

  • Dalek Eye Stalk

    August 10th, 2022 - 10:40pm

No doubt the 13th Doctor figure sets will be 3 variants of the 13th Doctor. How thrilling.

    • Philip Shaw

      August 11th, 2022 - 4:14pm

Please no more Ryan and Yaz figures!! I won’t mind if it’s 3 13’s if it’s Spyfall Tux, original navy with rainbow stripe, and Sea Devil top…

    • Dalek Eye Stalk

      August 12th, 2022 - 8:07pm

Ideally I’d like to see the 13th Doctor in Tux, the Fugitive Doctor and Dan.

    August 10th, 2022 - 6:36pm

Are we going to get a 3 Ecclestone set for Dr 9 set?

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 6:41pm

apparently the vote was for Geth Zombie, Jabe, 9th Dr in green.

But then the 10th Doctor vote clearly never worked out

    • Alan

      August 11th, 2022 - 7:28pm

If they can work out a version without the leather jacket, that would make it worthwhile

  • Coleman

    August 10th, 2022 - 5:22pm

I’ve no problem with this set. But looking at the (unhappy) comments on this site, got me thinking. Still having a 10th Doctor Set like this, (Sticking to a tight Budget, but to spice things up a little) it would have been good if they had included a Spacesuit Variant and 10th in his pyjammars, and just one Doctor in his standard outfit. So the set would have been much different.

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 5:33pm

The (unhappy) comments seem to be more or less universal, but as ever it depends on where you sit.

I can really see why they have done this, but also why others are somewhat perplexed and disappointed.

Some will be pleased for the updates and what looks like better paint apps.

Some will be pleased at finally getting something they missed first time around.

Most however i think will be disappointed at not getting something “really new”.

    • Coleman

      August 10th, 2022 - 5:50pm

Yeah, I understand Why people are unhappy Booboo, but I also agree it’s a Budget line.
Just been thinking about the tenth Doctor in Pyjamas and was hoping he will turn up one day in the Character line.
A good figure to use for a budget line would be Rory Williams without his Body Warmer or Coatless Captain Jack. If you wanted the 10th Doctor in Pyjamas to be wearing his Dressing gown aswell, you could use Captain Jack in his Trench coat.
(I’m just trying to think of figures that wouldn’t need new Tooling for a Budget line).

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 6:02pm

all this suggest to me is the B&M have drastically cut what they want to pay per set, whilst putting the price up in-line with inflation in case people stop spending in the current climate, from a business point of view makes sense along with some of the last minuet changes.

    • Bundy

      August 10th, 2022 - 6:38pm

I’m not this is budget related as would there really be that great a saving by releasing 3 Tennant figures over 3 repaints of different figures?

I think this was more a conscious decision to give people 3 new variants, and for one of these to be the articulated coat wearing Doctor – that is certainly what the box says.

Had we got that people would be saying great, a long sought after figure plus two new variants.

Instead when you get yet another non-articulated coat Doctor the excitement level drops and the others become the focus at which point things don’t look quite so good.

Again, I can’t see budget being the reason not to get the articulated figure – it hasn’t prevented other figures with articulation being released this wave.

Will we ever find out the true reason?

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 6:42pm

Only CO / B&M know the answer to that.

  • Anonymous

    August 10th, 2022 - 3:25pm

So, have I got this right? This isn’t a variant costume from an SJA episode I didn’t watch/can’t remember, it’s just the regular blue suit minus the pinstripes? Come on, Character.

You know what might’ve made this set sell like gangbusters? Take the overcoat figure, cast/paint the coat and arms in the colour they’ve used for the suit, use the brown suit base and tampo a madras/tartan check pattern onto it (or even leave it plain brown) and hey presto, you’ve got a sort – of 60th special Ten. Okay, the coat’s too long and David appears to be wearing a waistcoat not a suit jacket, but I bet a fair few of us would have bought it as a “placeholder” figure until/in lieu of getting a more accurate figure. I know I would.

Just seen on YouTube that they are releasing September 12th

I have the same info as them, At one one time it was sat in the warehouse for weeks before being sent out, I’m only interested in posting about it arriving when we actually know it has to be hoenst. That’s how we have always worked here and its proved the best strategy in the past for us.

No pinstripes? This and the 8th Doctor sets, personally, I think are great.

  • Mrs Croot

    August 10th, 2022 - 10:44am

If it comes down to 3 ninth doctors and 3 thirteenth doctors, i hope we get a holographic ninth doctor from parting of the ways, would make it more worth while, and of course it’s the same mould.

    • AY

      August 11th, 2022 - 3:17pm

Even then I think it would be a little bit of a let down. Tbh I see no issue with these multi-doctor three packs if it’s a chance to include significant costume variants. This 10th Doctor one is a bit of a let down but I think many will be happy with the 8th Doctor sets as all three of those figures would cost more on the second hand market (and the paint is better!). With the 9th, 2nd, 5th, 7th and 13th Doctors I think it’s harder to justify these three packs but if they, for example, made a 6th Doctor three pack with the blue costume variant, season 22 variant with new paint apps and the 5th/6th Regeneration figure I think that would go down very well.

The thing bothering me the most is the head. The head is so series 2 in my mind. It’s so OG tenth Doctor action figure from way back in the past that it looks so jarring on any body post series 2 as series 3 onwards Tennant had a much better look, hair wise.

It would be like sticking the OG eleventh Doctor head on every figure they ever release of 11. Which thankfully it was updated for series 6 waves.

It reminds me of when they release Doctor who posters and they have that always used series 1 promo image of the Dalek amongst all the newer stuff. I’m seeing newer, fresher, cool Tennant outfits with a sensible series 2 combed hair head

    • The ergon

      August 10th, 2022 - 11:21am

I was scrolling over a lot of the noughties character merchandise earlier with intentions to rebuy but a lot of the human/ doctor figures havent aged well at all. A lot of them have that glazed blank emotionless look that most ranges even the likes of the Hasbro star wars stuff had at the time. Draw comparisons from 10-15 years ago and the features have improved slightly for the b and m sets, though this is a budget line and is far from advanced photoreal that you would expect these days but you will pay in excess for that and not necessarily with accessories.
My main gripe is that the figure sets are mostly uninspired even sold as 3 packs. Perhaps someone could clarify whether or not for example the spacesuit moulds from The Satan pit or 42 are still in existence or why just new exciting headsculpts couldnt be created whyllst keeping with existing bodies? The odd paint job and innacuracy are one thing but these lines needs something fresh if its to succeed.

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 11:40am

Only Al Dewar and the buyer at B&M can answer that.

The jist seems to be that B&M severely cut the budget (they commit to nearly 50,000 sets so are going to want to make good money for that sort of investment) no doubt CO are having to make these for just a few £1’s per set and costs have gone up considerably as we know (way more than the 10% increase here)

Also we got all those new head sculpts when CO also had the “new” USA market, so more sets, more investment, but that didn’t work and they had to sell out surplus stock, possibly at a loss for all we know.

Many of last years sets are still on the shelves at £5. The fact is CO can only make what retailers want to buy and at a price they are prepared to pay.

    • The ergon

      August 10th, 2022 - 11:53am

That was the next question i was going to ask booboo with regards to the decision making what sets the public might want but taking into account the cost to make them. The buyer is making these choices for us and we are paying that extra for what seems like less. I would gladly pay more if the quality is there budget or not.

    • booboo

      August 10th, 2022 - 12:27pm

I can never see B&M wanting to invest in the sort of things some people are excepting, they are just not that type of company, they are not even just a toy store, they are essentially a buy it cheap pile it high business that like good stock rotation and specific price points.

They may have thought they had to sell to many sets off at a reduced price last time so simply don’t want to pay as much per set this time, who knows.

Like i say CO had the USA market when all these new head sculpts came along, extra investment, that’s gone so we are just back to B&M and re-releases and variants (which is actually how it use to be), i think people forgot that’s all we used to get.

Who knows maybe the 9th and 13th sets will have a surprise or 2.

For the record though as past completists there is nothing here i will be in rush to buy this time.

    • Haza14

      August 12th, 2022 - 1:20am

Definitely seems an odd selection. The 10th Doctor set especially as even if they were set on just doing 3 versions of the 10th Doctor they could have done a lot better than 2 inaccurate versions from the same episode and one from a comic where the cover is clearly David’s head photoshopped onto Matt’s body (look at his hands! Lol). Still, that makes that figure accurate I guess. Something like a standard version, tuxedo version, and maybe brown suit from Human Nature would have been far more appealing, or PJs.

I can certainly see them struggling to shift this set, even at a reduced price. Not sure I’d buy it for a fiver to be honest.

One thing I am wondering though is that with this line up, surely it makes business sense to reverse the previous strategy of having a box each of the 3 figure packs and then the History of the Daleks sets being combined so you end up with half the number of those sets on the shelves to the 3 packs. The Daleks sets sell well and are never on clearance, surely it makes more sense to produce more of those and then half the number of 3 packs? The Daleks sets are far more interesting this time as well.

If they wanted to do an SJA 10 why couldn’t they release him alongside an SJA 11 (same sculpt as the original 11 just recoloured shirt and jacket), and a variant of Sarah Jane (School Reunion Sarah with brown jacket and orange top would be a decent option)

    • Doctor Stu

      August 10th, 2022 - 12:53pm

I’d rather they used the new head sculpt Sarah Jane from the Sarah Jane adventures figure line. That was a vast improvement from the school reunion Sarah Jane they released, it looked absolutely nothing like her.

    • XS

      August 10th, 2022 - 2:51pm

Wouldn’t be much of a “10th Doctor” set if it included the 11th Doctor xD

    • Alex Oswin
