November 16th, 2017 - 12:29pmI certainly agree with Julius Russel it is fantastic that David Bradley is on board but cant under stand why Carole has not been recast as Susan in less she had other commitments.this is the same with the character Polly they have seemed to recast the character for the Christmas special but we cant have it all as they say but big finish is doing marvellous things we have the abominable snow men back for Christmas all be it in a doctor who spin off counter measures which i have not got any of them yet so much to choose from and to think in the wilderness years there was hardly any thing at all the doctor who magazine could not have gone much longer but they did it.
Julius Russell
September 22nd, 2017 - 3:51amVery interesting, although I feel it’s a bit of a let down we don’t have Carole playing Susan, but still I think Claudia sounded a lot like Carole/Susan in An Adventure in Space & Time so I’m not fussed. Still, we get a earlier version of the Master which is pretty nice fit into the canon (if you count Big Finish as canon that is, that’s debatable). Still, looking forward to it!

The Legend Doctor
September 17th, 2017 - 11:32pmWow! This looks stunning! Would love to listen to this
Dalekparadigm2
September 17th, 2017 - 12:41amLove the fact they’ve done a re-coloured Simm coat for the original master as if he’s had it all this time or at the very least had variations of it. Looks amazing and cannot wait for this to come out
William
September 17th, 2017 - 1:01amThats what I said about the coat below 🙂

September 16th, 2017 - 7:35amIs this a New Universe altogether
I would gladly take this as part of expanding Doctor Who as a
Mutiverse
DoctorSong2016
September 16th, 2017 - 10:51amWell Doctor Who has already been expanded as a multiverse with the Unbound audios but I don’t think this is a part of that. I think this is literally just them recreating the era in the same way they’re recreating the roles of One, Ben and Polly on tv. They’re not replacements for the originals and aren’t expected to be new versions of the characters, but a new interpretation of the same character in the same continuity when all of the original actors are not available.

September 16th, 2017 - 1:35pmI hope not.

September 16th, 2017 - 4:22pmHe is the first doctor, so not an alternate universe just different actors
Anonymous
September 17th, 2017 - 5:56pmDavid Bradley is counted as the doctor in the main continuity, this isn’t a different universe but additional adventures, no doubt they will reference the hartnell stories. Don’t forget that the third doctor knew who the master was (I know they studied at the academy together but not under these names) so it does alter any continuity and fits into the established story. The only true alternative doctor is David warner and he has traveled to the main canon universe. Even peter Cushing a doctor in in canon now as stories told by Ian and barbera after their adventures, to paraphrase a legend “it’s all one continuity”

September 19th, 2017 - 3:52pmDo Big Finish have the Rights now to The 12th Doctor Era First Doctor
DoctorSong2016
September 19th, 2017 - 11:44pmThere are no rights to the “12th Doctor Era First Doctor”, that’s not how it works. There’s rights to the character of the first Doctor, but they don’t need rights to a particular actor playing him. Though they can’t use any characters from after Time of the Doctor like Ashildr as they don’t have the rights and while they can use characters like Kate Stewart and Osgood, all the stories have to be set some time before Death in Heaven, so no Zygon references or multiple Osgoods.

September 16th, 2017 - 1:33amStopped listening to big finish a long time ago, just far too much material, i found i wasn’t enjoying the original tv stories on dvd because i was constantly catching up on the cds. For me less is definitely more. I’m sure a lot of people will enjoy these so good luck to them, personally though I’d have loved a new story on tv with this set of actors, not necessarily a full new series in deference to david Bradley’s age but just a couple of old style stories as specials. That would have been my choice.

September 16th, 2017 - 1:58pmYes I know what you mean, big finish release so much, all the time, I felt I’d give up and enjoy the classic tv series.
Tim M
September 19th, 2017 - 7:27pmAgreed. I feel I have to pick and choose. I can’t buy them all! I’ve not got the room (if buying cds) for them all, plus I haven’t got the time to listen to them all.
Prof Horner
November 19th, 2017 - 11:54amThere is so much Who out there. If you don’t like new Who there is always some old Who to enjoy.
Doctor909
September 15th, 2017 - 10:55pmHmmmm I do quite like the look of this will probably pick it up. Quite curious to see the First Master. Fun fact the person who plays the Master plays Harrison in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode The Man Who Never Was (the last episode) so maybe the master did appear in SJA (probably didn’t but would be cool though)
audio quatro
September 15th, 2017 - 8:37pmi like the companion chronicles with the actual cast from the era, I’m not into this , same with the 3rd doctor big finish releases with someone impersonating him, would rather listen to the original soundtracks of episodes with the real 3rd/2nd/1st doctors – you can’t replace them
SW
September 15th, 2017 - 9:34pmI struggled with the first volume of 3rd doctor adventures but I think that was down to Tim narrating as well as performing the 3rd, the others aren’t as bad with him just being the doctor but i don’t think his impression is good enough for these audios 🙁 not like Christopher Thompsons Patrick Troughton, he is excellent
The Dalek Whovian
September 15th, 2017 - 5:33pmIt’s amazing now that we live in an era where the first Doctor is having a big comeback
Peter
September 15th, 2017 - 5:39pmI’m loving it. It’s absolutely deserved and long overdue.
Peter
September 15th, 2017 - 5:08pmI guess this is what finally gets me into Big Finish.
Koquillian
September 15th, 2017 - 4:16pmInterestingly it notes that the first incarnation of the master will be in these, although it does not specific which volume. Very interesting.
whofan44
September 15th, 2017 - 4:31pmI am going to guess the first volume as the actor playing the Master is standing next to the Doctor on the cover
DoctorSong2016
September 15th, 2017 - 4:40pmNot necessarily the First incarnation, just a pre Delgado one. Also he’s probably in the Destination Wars as The Great White Hurricane is a Historical.
DoctorSong2016
September 15th, 2017 - 4:43pmActually forgive me, it does in fact say he’s the first incarnation on the news article. I’m not sure what to think of that as it removes a lot of the mystery.
The Dalek Whovian
September 15th, 2017 - 5:35pmSo I guess that’s the War Chief is The Master theory done, but it is cool to finally to see a Master that goes with the first Doctor
The Dalek Whovian
September 15th, 2017 - 5:36pmOr this could be considered as an alternative universe I guess
Koquillian
September 15th, 2017 - 6:41pmWhofan44, that would make too much sense, I don’t know how I didn’t realise 🙂
William
September 15th, 2017 - 7:26pmThe Master’s coat here is exactly the same as John Simms from the Series 10 finale two parter except it has a grey textured lapel as opposed to a red silk lapel !
William
September 15th, 2017 - 7:34pmI agree with the comment above, I would of preferred it if this was the incarnation before Roger Delgado – Mystery does add flavour and I feel like we should never know what the first Master would have looked like and what his characteristics would be. But of course it’s just an opinion and as a whole I’m really excited they are doing this ! Doctor Who is at it’s best when it does the unexpected !
The Outcast
September 16th, 2017 - 1:36amI don’t think it discounts the War Chief being the Master, seeing as according to Big Finish chronology, the Delgado Master is the 12th incarnation of the Master. The War Chief Master (if indeed the War Chief is the Master (which I like to think he is)) could be the 11th Incarnation of the Master.
Anonymous
September 16th, 2017 - 7:36amTechnically It does say it is a reimagining of the show based on the 60’s era, so is this a different version of the master all together
Bundy
September 16th, 2017 - 8:48pmI’d always envisaged the first Doctor and the first Master would be obout the same age, and it would only be after their first regenerations that things would get out of sync. Maybe there will be some back story included that accounts for the Master looking so much younger.
Nuallain
September 19th, 2017 - 6:58pmOn the relative ages, Dreyfus is actually only a few years younger now than Hartnell was then.
The Drums The Never Ending Drum Beat
September 15th, 2017 - 3:57pmWhy no carol & william
The Outcast
September 15th, 2017 - 4:03pmBecause they wanted to do the full AISAT cast.
DoctorSong2016
September 15th, 2017 - 7:26pmThere’s rumours that William Russell is retiring from Big Finish too.
Doctor Mysterio
September 15th, 2017 - 1:22pmBig Finish have an excellent track record with these sort of releases so it’ll be a long wait until January, but I’m very excited. I now hope Mark Gatiss gets to pen them a story at some future date, but obviously he’s a very busy man.
The Outcast
September 15th, 2017 - 1:07pmIf your wondering who the Character on the left is, that is the 1st incarnation of the Master played by James Dreyfus, which is another really exciting thing!
Jordan Scott
September 15th, 2017 - 12:51pmThis is unexpected but wonderful news, never even crossed my mind that this could happen!
Doctor Mysterio
September 15th, 2017 - 2:13pmLet’s hope now for a Reece Shearsmith Second Doctor boxset/crossover and then all the classic Doctors would be back having new adventures at Big Finish!
WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?
September 15th, 2017 - 3:20pmI would prefer it if Big Finish got Christopher Thomson as he does a brilliant Second Doctor impression, then he can do audios and box sets with Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury.
the ergon
September 15th, 2017 - 5:04pmReece shearsmith never really cut it or sounded like the second doctor. Makes more sense to get David troughton.
The Monitor
September 15th, 2017 - 5:50pmAgree that no-one does Troughton as well as his son David. As good as other actors might be, David is the perfect and essential choice.
the ergon
September 15th, 2017 - 7:43pmAnd i know this might seem a predictable response, I,d say the same for same for sean pertwee doing the third. when i watch and hear him in Gotham he has the look and sounds like jon. even though he said he wouldn,t play the third on screen, it would be a great tribute to his dad.
Jordan Scott
September 15th, 2017 - 9:08pmChristopher Thompson would be my first choice for 2nd Doctor also, he’s nailed it now
