December 11th, 2023 - 9:29pmAm I just sort of picky on this sort of thing but does it bother anyone else that the comic strip in this does not seem to have its own title?
Alan Silvester
December 7th, 2023 - 10:50amCan anyone confirm, is the copy shown above the subscriber copy? This is what I have received today, but was expecting a “clean” cover – just the logo. Is this the actual subscriber copy, or have I been sent the wrong copy? Thanks.
Gareth Pugh
December 7th, 2023 - 11:14amBecause it comes in a paper envelope (bundling it with the poster and the bonus Star Beast comic) shop copies and subscriber copies are the same – because even shop copies don’t need loads of text on the actual mag inside, the paper envelope does that job. So, yes, what you see IS what subscribers are getting (ie, with some text). My sub copy is certainly that.

December 7th, 2023 - 2:10pmBrill. Thanks for the clarification, Gareth.

December 6th, 2023 - 4:38pmDo we know if shop bought copies will have the clean cover yet like other recent special issues have in their bags?
Andy R
December 7th, 2023 - 7:53amYes, it has the clean cover from shop brought versions.
Also has a 14th Doctor strip so the collected Liberation of the Daleks is not the complete 14th.
Rory
December 7th, 2023 - 9:24am@andy, have to say I was expecting that with Liberation being a bookazine format. Rush release that to capitalise on the 60th, then produce a complete 14th for the graphic novels collection.
Would help them to recoup some of the costs of producing the strip as there will inevitably be some double dipping.

December 6th, 2023 - 11:16amBest issue in AGES! Lots to enjoy. I appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea (and yes loads gets spoiled in the internet) but there’s loads of good stuff that people post, from this mag, just prior to release so that ruins it a bit too. It has it’s exclusives but within hours social media have it everywhere
booboo
December 6th, 2023 - 11:20amMaybe sales would be better and therefore a lower price if the clickbait x’ers (twitterers) didn’t spread all the juicy bits over social media before the mag has even hit the shops.

December 6th, 2023 - 6:39pmbooboo – that would mean the x’ers getting a life.

December 6th, 2023 - 9:13amThe new Fourth Doctor comic strip collection is the complete run, which includes both the previous editions at approx £15 each, so works out about the same price. Had they re-released them individually, they’d probably be more than £15 for each volume.
Good value, I’d say, and they look beautiful. Only moan is I wish they’d come out in hardcover, too.

December 5th, 2023 - 8:07pmHow come the “is” isn’t emphasized? Isn’t usually on the covers when a new Doctor’s era begins?

December 5th, 2023 - 6:21pmAt this rate issue 600 will be 20 quid.. what the hell?

December 5th, 2023 - 4:17pmyou’re right bryan and over the last 12 months the magazine has got a lot better and having the odd reprint is nise and a lot of people don’t have the older stuff i personally would like some of the things from the 60s and 70s reprinted ..like annuals ect
Doug Who
December 5th, 2023 - 4:01pmIconic cover! Looking forward to it.
GallifreyStands
December 5th, 2023 - 1:47pmI believe its £10.99 for this edition as it as The Star Beast reprint as a separate magazine additional to the main magazine,
Dave
December 5th, 2023 - 3:20pmits honestly like they trying to stop people buying the magazine, the prices are insane especially for “gifts” nobody really wants.
atl
December 5th, 2023 - 3:29pmid rather have The Star Beast reprint then another poster
bryan
December 5th, 2023 - 3:48pmI do think there are many people who have never seen the Star Beast comic strip. As it was 1979/1980,so a singular reprint is most welcome.
I know the original £15 4th Doctor Graphic is long sold out, and the new £29.99 is beyond many at this time. As the magazine is £7.99 an extra £3 is not so excessive.
DWM is unique in being a single issue content, SFX and others are derivative of movies and TV. And get support from advertisers that don’t see DWM as a place to advertise. If we wish to keep a unique magazine we have to support it.

December 5th, 2023 - 7:54pmbryan – I 100% agree.

December 5th, 2023 - 11:38pmBryan,
Have you *seen* what Panini charge compared to SFX for advertising?! They made a rod for their own back.
More then 2 alphabets
December 6th, 2023 - 8:29amI feel like some people are missing the point here and are quick to judge DWM based on other magazines.
I cant think of any other franchise that has a dedicated monthly adult(not that kind) magazine that has existed for decades. I don’t see “harry potter monthly” or “resident evil monthly” anywhere. Doctor who magazine is a dying brand, there’s no lie about that, it exists in a very small universe of regular printed content. Sadly all the “news” is on social media before it hits stands so they have to do what they can to get buyers, its inevitable that the price will increase.
The fact that the show has been on off in terms of TV content volume for years means that regular new content isn’t really there. Sadly, as Doctor Who goes into its new era and is regenerated again, that popularity means the £ rise for hiring new writers/editors, the comic book section in itself is a major investment. The seasoned veterans of the magazine become a higher cost as they know their name carries weight.
EVERYTHING is going up, blu ray pre orders have gone up this week, not doctor who but general – most of what I saw on HMV was £14.99 , has now become £16.99. Big Finish is becoming a very selective affair for some people, its not to be evil or money grabbing, sadly this is the world right now. Costs have risen so sadly hard choices are to be made. I supported the magazine for years and then one day I noted that im paying £6.99 for nothing so i stopped, when RTD returned I bought again for his letter but 10 months later, its just not worth the expense, its tough as im a dedicated, long term fan but i have to invest my “who money” into something that is of a higher quality which is big finish audios, the truth is, i will read the magazine maybe once (and rarely cover to cover) but those CD’s sit pride of place and the app means I can listen to my favourites whenever i want
If you want it and can afford it then great but sadly, we need to spend on what’s most important! I dont see the Magazine going away over night and RTD pushing for the “canon” 14th doctor story in the comic is proof theres still intent but lets be honest, maybe 3-5 years left? Thats potentally another £300-£500 investment over the coming years, is it worth it? The choice is yours…….
