March 24th, 2017 - 10:49pmThis show needs an increase in episodes if it wants to make high viewing numbers in America, the wait is ridiculous between seasons. They average around 3 million viewers or less in america and the fact numbers are consistent shows a hardcore minority following but the show should rank up there with Bigbang theory with 11 million viewers solid. Make the show 18 episodes a season and a season every year! Christmas episodes take em or leave em…mehh

March 24th, 2017 - 11:04pmthe problem is Doctor Who has one central Character who is on screen most of the time, the format would have to change dramatically to get 18 episodes filmed in a few months

March 24th, 2017 - 11:55pmMost American tv shows that have 20ish episodes are mostly just scenes with alot of talking and a small amount of action (like the flash) – so they can have one episode filmed every two weeks or so.
But with a show like Doctor Who where each episode is a different adventure and takes place somewhere different and there is a complete new set up, each episode would take much longer to be prepared and filmed e.g lots of new sets will have to be built for every episode.
So Doctor Who aint really the kind of shoe that can do that.

March 25th, 2017 - 11:32pmNot many live-action British TV shows even pass the 13-episode mark per season (excluding soaps), and a show like DW is expensive to produce anyway; New sets to be built for each episode/story, location scouting, finding guest casts, etc not to mention CGI when its needed.

March 26th, 2017 - 12:36pmBasically what Anon said. And in reply to James, its not often they pass 8 episodes at the very most! A lot of series here are just 6 or so episodes so a series of Doctor Who is basically 2 series of another show xD
And even the big American shows like Westworld, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, House of Cards etc only have/had 10-13 episodes per season. It’s only the shows like House M.D. or The Big Bang Theory which have a large ensemble cast and take place predominantly in one place that have/had 20+ episodes!

March 27th, 2017 - 4:03amThink he means 13 is the maximum on live-action stuff. Shows on CBBC for example are always in the 12-13 episode bracket per series, and yeah most other BBC stuff is 6-8 episodes per series.
Although compared to like 10 years ago, the BBC are deffo cutting back on their episode counts. It all used to be 13, now its all in the 6-8-10-12 bracket.
