Toy Fair London 2016 Round-up – Update from Character
There were no new Doctor Who products on display at the Toy Fair this year at the Character Options stand but more are on their way, below are direct responses from Character Options:
Why is there no new Doctor Who range on the Character Options stand?
The DW collection of Character Options toys will be out at a later date and press materials will be circulated then.
When will the new Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver be released?
The new Sonic is set to be released for this summer, and viewings are being carried out in due course

TITAN Merchandise
Nothing solid on next set, ideas on table but not set in stone.
The Good Man set chase figures are:
- Amy and Rory in wedding outfits
- Old 11th Doctor
- Governess Clara
Future TITAN vinyl series:
Thunderbirds ships, possible blind box figures depending on demand and Star Trek
Underground Toys
Nothing major Doctor Who on show other than already featured on the site with the exception of a Tardis stein and new Jewellery box. There are however many new items in their catalogue.
- Sherlock mini figures (like Character Building) not known how they will be marketed yet.
- Other 5″ Sherlock figures progressing
Zeon
Nothing new this year but some existing items were in the new packaging.
Warlord Games
Progressing, all under wraps
Lego
Nothing new on show
sugardoc5
January 31st, 2016 - 6:52pmdid you have any pictures from war lords ?
booboo
January 31st, 2016 - 7:21pmthey had nothing at all Doctor Who there
Stike
January 25th, 2016 - 8:22pmWe have yet to any merchandise from series nine. I know it finished just under 2 months ago but surely we should have seen something at the toy fair!
Doctor Stu
January 26th, 2016 - 10:14pmI was fully expecting 3.75″ Davros, supreme Dalek and Missy, I miss the 5″ days where we used to get basically three figures per episode of a series including Christmas special and now we’re lucky to get three figures per series
76 Totters Lane
January 26th, 2016 - 10:32pmThere’s the Fisher King figurine next month.
cyberdoctor42

J R
January 26th, 2016 - 1:10pmThey sound fun but I’d love them to do Vinyl Idolz style figures more.
the doctor
January 26th, 2016 - 9:35pmyeah it’s an educated guess but the original statement was
“Six inch articulated figures with the first characters in the line being Ghostbusters, Back to the future, TMNT, Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Walking Dead, Supernatural and Willy Wonka”
then they released pictures of these http://funkopopcommunityuk.co.uk/other-funko-goodies-leaked-fabrikations-dorbz-playmobil-mymoji-more/
you’ll notice the only ones missing from the list are the bbc properties doctor who and sherlock
its not official but it looks likely

Mechanoid Fan
January 24th, 2016 - 10:27pmCool 🙂 Thanks Booboo
BrunoB
January 25th, 2016 - 7:03amWhen I asked, they said only Moriarty was being developed for now
Exterminator
January 27th, 2016 - 1:31amMoriarty is the figure I’m waiting for the most.
DRS Class 68’s are the best!
January 27th, 2016 - 8:41pmyou cant have Sherlock without Dr. Watson!
T4RD1S
January 24th, 2016 - 10:01pmBit disappointed but that means lots of exclusive stuff this year, hopefully some new 5.5 inch stuff!!!
BrunoB
January 25th, 2016 - 7:04amI’m not sure it means lots of them. A few of them maybe.
T4RD1S
January 26th, 2016 - 4:31pmOk, not lots of but you know what I meant
The Twelfth Doctor
January 24th, 2016 - 8:39pmWhen do you expect the new Sonic Screwdriver to be released booboo (roughly)?
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:43pmI thought I read somewhere May but that might have completely changed, if it was i would have thought it would have been there
Sonics are massive sellers
The Twelfth Doctor
January 24th, 2016 - 8:46pmYeah. It would have been awesome if, like the Eleventh Doctor’s sonic, it went up for sale on the day it debuted in the show (5th December), but I guess that wouldn’t happen now due to approval reasons and the like.
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:49pmwe have seen very little of the new sonic
one wonders if Character can even market a toy that may have features we have yet to see on screen
wouldn’t that class as a spoiler
Anonymous
January 24th, 2016 - 8:54pmi just think its not ready yet.
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:59pmor they pulled the plug last minuet in light of the series news
high street retailers maybe reluctant to buy stuff if the show is not going to aired at all this year until xmas
Anonymous
January 24th, 2016 - 9:04pmwell they’ve got to release someting……next years toy fair wont have any new doctor who stuff either i imagine.
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 9:07pmif it does it maybe from episodes that haven’t aired yet so it won t be on public show, that’s how it always was for the 1st few years
in a way this probably works in Characters favour as they have more time to get stuff ready and it can be put to market not long after the episodes have aired
The Twelfth Doctor
January 24th, 2016 - 9:36pmYeah, wouldn’t surprise me if it was released in the last 1/4 of the year, we all know how much retailers love Christmas…
Anonymous
January 24th, 2016 - 10:26pmIt’s gonna be a long wait…..
The Legend Doctor
January 25th, 2016 - 12:09amHmmm this is a bit strange as BBC’s Official Sonic Screwdriver app has the new sonic screwdriver and it has Green Mode and Blue Mode. Click and it will buzz the normal Smith sound slide up to have one of the sounds from the clockwork trans tempral sonic! 🙂 then slide down slightly to have another version of the matt smith sonic sound then slide fully down for another sound from the clockwork sonic 🙂 So presumably those sounds will be on Characters sonic! 😀
Doctor_Number 10
January 24th, 2016 - 8:09pmI was real excited but now disappointed 🙁
BrunoB
January 24th, 2016 - 7:13pmI was a bit disappointed that there was nothing on display, but it’s not too surprising really. 11 years is a long time for a brand. CO seemed to be saying that the brand wasn’t finished, however.
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:03pmmy guess is if the 5.5″ are continuing and possibly even the 3.75″ they will remain exclusives for now
I suspect any new sonic had not got past the approval stage for public display, there is little else CO can do at the moment
Titans and Funkos seem to have a strong global market right now
BrunoB
January 25th, 2016 - 6:17amOh, I asked them and they did say the brand wasn’t dead. But compared with previous years, Doctor Who was very much absent from the Toy Fair… even Funko/Underground didn’t have much to show this year. They weren’t even showing the new Pops!
whotoys
January 24th, 2016 - 7:11pmVery disappointed pointed
M
January 24th, 2016 - 6:49pmHow come there hasn’t been any Top Trumps out for the last series booboo?
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 6:52pmmight be one yet but nothing new on show at winning moves either
M
January 26th, 2016 - 10:36amCool thank you
koloth
January 24th, 2016 - 5:12pmJust because this is now a non-Dr Who year doesn’t mean we don’t want new figures. I want more figures not less!!! I especially want to see 3.75 Missy and 8th Doctor.
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 5:48pmMy guess is these are toys r us exclusives again which is why they weren’t on display
2doctors2000
January 24th, 2016 - 8:03pmWhen you realise the ‘exclusive Collector series’ is sold in more shops than the ‘mass market’ 3.75 inch Wave 4, and possibly 5 depending on how they distribute them..
Like genuinely, the 3.75 inch range was marketed at mass market, so why are they becoming exclusive, it’s slightly worrying from a business point of view tbh. Us 5 inch fans technically need to 3.75 inch line to survive to get any 5 inch range figures, the 5 inch range alone will not be enough to sustain enough money, as we already know. I want to see both lines be as good as possible!
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:09pmwe don’t know what happens behind closed doors, it may well that to commit to the 5.5″ line Toys r us wanted the 3.75″ line as exclusives as well
I would not be surprised if wave 5 didn’t just turn up there
the right figures do sell, The 8th doctor proves that, however I’m not sure how viable one off new figures are without re-releases which i have no doubt are off setting some of the costs

January 24th, 2016 - 4:14pmSo annoyed right now ….
bryan
January 24th, 2016 - 4:14pmI imagine thinfs will chill, with no Doctor whoctill Xmas 2016. There are a few books coming with a capaldi flavour. Underground might dabble in some classic series figures, while the current team have a quieter time, not quiet, but quieter
We Miss You Clara Oswald
January 24th, 2016 - 4:06pmBooBoo will you be at the toy fair until Tuesday?
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 5:32pmno just today
Zombula
January 24th, 2016 - 4:05pmAny DWFC or Robert Harrop stuff on display ?
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 5:32pmno they dont tend to go to event like this
Anonymous
January 24th, 2016 - 3:50pmThat it then?
im not the doctor if your wondering
January 24th, 2016 - 3:43pmWhat a great start to Dr who merch this year
DOCTORWHOFAN1
January 24th, 2016 - 7:38pmSo agree
mick
January 24th, 2016 - 3:31pmmaybe with there only being a Christmas special this years there is next to nothing of doctor who merchandise coming out as shops wont want to stock products for a show that isn’t even on tv?
DannyTheNerd
January 24th, 2016 - 3:21pmTbh, i wasn’t excepting much there, so i’m not really suprised how little who stuff there was. I’m suprised to see CB though. I thought they stopped making them.
Anonymous
January 24th, 2016 - 3:12pmanything else booboo ?
DalekSupreme
January 24th, 2016 - 2:38pmReally disappointed at Character this year, Doctor Who seems to be taking a back seat in figures, hopefully Underground Toys have something at SDCC this year
Supreme Dalek
January 24th, 2016 - 4:21pmIt seems that Character may have taken the Hasbro approach.
DOCTORWHOFAN1
January 24th, 2016 - 4:41pmI SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO agree
Anonymous
January 25th, 2016 - 1:34amWhat do you mean ‘hasbro approach’?
TheAgeOfUltron
January 24th, 2016 - 2:06pmSo is Doctor who character building coming back!
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 4:01pmNo this is UT doubt it will called CB either
JRT!
January 24th, 2016 - 5:33pmI bet UGT will have some fun stuff at Comic-Con in July, they always do.
BrunoB
January 24th, 2016 - 7:09pmThey’re presenting them as “Sherlock Minifigures” for the moment… They are very cute!
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 7:11pmmakes me miss the DW ones
BRick
January 24th, 2016 - 8:05pmDefinitely miss the DW CB figures, doubly so with no new Lego DW announced. I will snap up the Sherlock CB if they make it to production
booboo
January 24th, 2016 - 8:22pmLego could still be working on more, i just preferred the CB minifigures myself, wave 5 was done as well, Shame UT couldn’t have taken that up possibly
will def get Sherlock, we have virtually everything else
The Lego set however is very well thought out and a quality item
JRT!
January 25th, 2016 - 4:35amYou can always ask UGT what’s going on. I know I sometimes do at Comic-Con. And they’re usually very helpful.
BRick
January 25th, 2016 - 6:28pmboo boo, completely agree, the Lego TARDIS is a fantastic set, but my CB figures have pride and place on it. Interesting what you write about Wave 5. What figures would have been released?
booboo
January 25th, 2016 - 6:31pmI dont know i just know it was planned, no doubt there are prototypes locked away in a vault (along with numerous other things i expect)
The Legend Doctor
January 25th, 2016 - 7:13pmI got a reply off lego about new doctor who sets and she basically said she cant tell me anything about new doctor who sets but there will be something like it in the future?!?!?!
The super whovian
January 24th, 2016 - 2:00pmOh well there’s always comic con
