Toys R Us Doctor Who Events
BBC Worldwide and Toys r us are currently holding Doctor Who themed events at selected stores.
The first of these events have already taken place at the Oldbury, Medway, Metrocentre in Newcastle and Sheffield Meadowhall Retail Park.
The TARDIS will be materialising at the following stores…
Saturday / Sunday September 13th / 14th…
- Reading ( Saturday 13th )
- Plymouth ( Sunday 14th )
There is a goody bag to be won to the tune of £300 for Children in the best cosplay (judged by the independent adjudicators at BBC Worldwide).
There is no age limit for the fancy dress competition but children will need parent or guardian consent to enter.

September 30th, 2014 - 8:03pmWell, my little boy was notified he was a winner (he’s the one in the last pic in Matt Smith guise) and received his prizes today.
However, the main item of value and the one he was most excited about (the sonic screwdriver universal remote) has been swapped for the standard £9.99 toy version 🙁
Several other items are missing/have been swapped.
He’s a bit disappointed 🙁
booboo
September 30th, 2014 - 8:47pmthat doesn’t sound good, i hope you are going to contact them
Ieuan Jones
September 30th, 2014 - 8:55pmIs that even allowed? If you were promised a sonic screwdriver universal remote then surely you should get one! :/
Joanne Goodger
October 1st, 2014 - 5:31pmThat is terrible I would contact them because on the leaflet I have got it states what you get, has anyone else found out of they have won? I really hope it gets sorted out soon
TheWhovianVortex
October 1st, 2014 - 5:39pmWHAT?????? You wanted a universal remote and instead they send you a cheap 9.99 toy!!! That is unacceptable!! Problem solution destroy!
Hello Rusty
September 24th, 2014 - 11:26pmChildren at that age 4-10 how do they know even what cosplay is
booboo
September 24th, 2014 - 11:28pmquite a few of them i would imagine
Sam Richard Bentley
September 24th, 2014 - 11:44pmCosplay is just a new word for ‘playing dress-up’. When you were 4-10 years old did you dress up as your favourite characters? You probably did, we all did, or at least tried our best too. Cosplay is just a word made up so that adults have a reason to do what they did as children and ‘play dress-up’.
Hello Rusty
September 24th, 2014 - 11:49pmSo basically they kinda (no reference to the fifth doctor story) know but they want to dress up anyway for the event
Joanne Goodger
September 18th, 2014 - 12:57pmHi dose anyone know if or when the competition will be drawn ? Thanks 🙂

September 13th, 2014 - 8:20pmAgreed, the merchandise at Reading was pretty poor. Few Patrol ships and new Tardis and quite a few Union Jack daleks. My son enjoyed the photo opportunity though

September 13th, 2014 - 8:13pmWhat’s in the goody bags?
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 9:13pmA stationary set.

1. 11th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote Control
2. 2014 sticker collection box plus album
3. Union Flag Dalek
4. Stationary goody bag
5. Backpack
6. Lunch kit set
7. Doctor Who Monopoly

Raggedy
September 14th, 2014 - 9:39pmDoes that mean you have won GallefreyanKnight
if not how did u know what was in the prize pack
GallifreyanKnight
September 15th, 2014 - 6:11pmBecause the entire contents of the prize pack are listed on a leaflet that I got while I was at Toys R Us.
And I don’t know if I’ve won yet. If I do though, I’m going to tell them to give it to one of the runners-up.
Being a costumer in my spare time, had given me an unfair advantage, so I don’t deserve to win.
Besides, I was just happy enough to go there and get photos with the TARDIS and Dalek. 🙂

September 15th, 2014 - 9:26pmOh
well i missed that then…
plus your ninth doctor outfit was really good
i went as the 11th doctor from journey to the centre of the tardis
i went to the reading one too
but i left before you came 🙁
The Mr Master
September 13th, 2014 - 6:28pmI went to reading also, was fun. Got a few photos. There was a fair selection for a small event until a collector picked up at least 4 doctor and dalek sets and left leaving a few disappointed little ones to choose a sixth doctor or sixth doctor set.
Nobody new anything about any 50th sets
booboo
September 13th, 2014 - 6:31pmthe doctor Dalek sets have been around for ages though, some “collector” if they only just bought them
do stores not get stock moved in for these events?
the 50th sets have supposedly been delivered i dont know why they would have got some sent in especially
how things have changed
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 6:51pmThe Mr Master,
What time were you there?
We might have crossed paths. 🙂
The Mr Master
September 13th, 2014 - 8:27pmAbout 12:00 – 2:00
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 9:09pmYou might have left before me then, as I was in there at about 2:00pm.
DuckandGrouse
September 13th, 2014 - 5:11pmI know this is slightly irrelevant but does anyone know when the Impossible set from Forbidden Planet will actually come out of back order because I bought it for my friend’s BD and it’s in a week 😕
booboo
September 13th, 2014 - 5:13pmstocks were said to have arrived late Friday, we should find out for sure Monday if orders start to get sent out
Matt Young
September 13th, 2014 - 4:11pmI was at the Reading store today too – great to have a TARDIS just there in store alongside a dalek – al a bit of fun. But what a rubbish selection of toys!!! I would have thought the whole point was to promote and sell products of which they had so very little. The only new stuff was the new strangely lighter TARDIS, Dalek ship form 50th and screwdrivers – everything else was last years remaining few items. Well done CO once more for missing out on a brilliant way to sell your products i.e. in a toy store.
booboo
September 13th, 2014 - 4:54pmi think these events were more BBC worldwide, just an in-store photo opportunity rather than a merchandise event .
I know what you mean though, one store did have the 50th set but only a few that went very quickly
the 12th Doctor in new costume did not to seem to happen as it should have done
it does seem like a missed opportunity
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 5:15pmWhat time did you go Matt?
We might have crossed paths. 🙂
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 3:41pmI just got back from going to the Reading event. There weren’t many people there. 16 photos done. They aren’t great photos, but it was nice to get out of the house for a while.
Anyone else from here go there today, or was it just me? 😆
booboo
September 13th, 2014 - 4:01pmgot any pictures?
did they have any of the 3.75″ 50th sets for sale?
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 4:19pmYeah. I only got 16 pictures. I can send them to you if you’d like, but they aren’t anything spectacular.
No. They didn’t have any of the 50th anniversary 3.75″ range. Infact, their DW toy display was pretty pitiful overall, to be honest.
booboo
September 13th, 2014 - 4:55pmwe could have a look [email protected]
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 5:16pmI’ve just sent them to you.

GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 5:37pmOf course. 🙂
Don’t judge my 9th Doctor costume too harshly. It’s not perfect, lol.
GallifreyanKnight
September 13th, 2014 - 5:50pmWhen I said they aren’t great photos, I meant the ones that I personally took.
The ones by my friend Michael came out brilliantly though. 🙂
GallifreyanKnight
September 11th, 2014 - 5:05pmI’m going to the Reading one. 🙂
