“Trust me i’m the Doctor” 3.75″ Doctor Review
TrustmeimtheDoctor 3.75″ Doctor Review
Intro
I rushed to get this at my forbidden planet for £6.99 as i was very excited about the 3.75 inch line but was he worth it? Should you get it? Time to find out…
Packaging
The Packaging for this figure was much smaller for the new scale and mostly had a new design, At the bottom of the package it had the updated doctor who logo and below had what you were getting in the figure. The figure and its base was clearly displayed for all you eagle eyed collectors out there!
And had a nice backdrop with a gallifrey symbol, on the left hand side there’s a bubble saying 6 to collect from the wave and then just above that we have a nice picture of the tardis. In the background you see what seems to be a blue vortex and another bubble saying “Series 7 figure collection”. On the back it tells you all the figures in the wave and two time-zone playsets (Dalek invasion and Cold War). To open the packaging is simple, but beware as the doctors head can come off very easily and you may lose it.
Detail
When you first see the figure the colours look very basic, And detailing looks very poor, but as you get closer you can see that there is a fair amount of detailing on the figure.
The head sculpt is one of the worst parts of the figure, with a bad likeness to Matt Smith, to me it seems that eyes ruin it by being to big on my figure and I just feel the hair could be improved, apart from that the sculpt on the head is quite nice, from the back and the side I feel it gives a excellent likeness to Matt Smith, the colours used on the head makes the hair look quite nice and I feel they have gotten the right colour tone for his face.
Moving on to the body, the shirt part of the figure has just been given basic paint application with a very light blue, but on top of that we get a lovely dark purple bow tie, which could have more detail but it is nice as it is. Down the middle of the shirt we have buttons sculpted onto the body which gives the figure a nice look. Now onto the waistcoat of the figure, I like the colour they have used for the waistcoat with some nice details of buttons running down it and a outline of where the waistcoat connects. Onto the jacket again the colour they have done is perfect with purple they could miss it up and make it really bright purple, but I feel they have perfected the colour of the coat like the one to the show, the jacket has some nice details on it, the collar has been sculpted into the jacket with what seems to be holes for buttons which gives it a good effect, on the right of the figure they have put in what is meant to be a pocket which also gives a nice effect.
Then lastly they are some line details on the edges of the jacket. The legs of the figure are painted a basic black which I do not like, it would be nice if they could be given a muddy effect like given on the time warrior third doctor, and finally for detail his boots are painted brown with some details of shoe lice’s. Below is a picture of the original figures head sculpt on the left and then the hide set one on the right.
Articulation
The articulation for each 3.75 inch figure is different, including the doctors. The doctor features:
- 360 degrees head articulation.
- Both arms can go up and down and out to the side (which is helpful for a regeneration scene!) the arms also have a elbow joint which can go 90 degrees up and down
- The waist can do 360 degrees.
- At the top of the knee it can go up 90 degrees, at the knee it has a joint which goes 90 degrees, and finally the feet can go round 360 degrees.
.
Variants
They are currently two variants of this figure avilible to buy, a “rare” variant with dark purple waistcoat and then my favourite one, the hide set variant sadly I cant say much about the rare variant as I do not have it as yet, but it is basically the same figure except it has a dark purple waistcoat and bow-tie.
The hide variant I do have and is my favourite as the face sculpt is a lot better and seems wider and the head did not fall out as soon as I opened the set. There is also repainted colours which I think looks better, the shirt is now a darker light blue colour and the bow-tie is now a nice dark red colour, So overall I like the hide set one better.
Accessories
The figure comes with a closed 11th’s doctors screwdriver and a blue base.
The screwdriver has been made to look like a closed version of 11ths sonic and I must say for the size the detail is amazing!
I love the colours used on the sonic and there is hardly any paint bleeds but one mine silver paint has crept onto the black section on the sonic but fortunetely it can be hidden when you place it into his hands. The base is just a basic piece of plastic with the shape of the DW doctor who logo and painted a dark blue colour, in the hide set the base is painted silver.
Overlook
So back to one of the first questions in the review, is it worth it? Well its a mixed answer yes for some of the great detailing and no for the bad face sculpt. The figure can be easily pulled into three parts, the head, the body and the legs which makes the figure feel so cheap.
But apart from this is a good wee figure to start off the doctor’s in 3.75 inch scale. But if I was you I would get the hide set as the figure has been highly improved the face looks a lot better and the colours stand out a wee bit more.
i give this figure a 7/10.

January 30th, 2014 - 9:46pmThe body, legs and sonic look astonishingly accurate but the head detail lets it down slightly.

January 30th, 2014 - 10:13pmThe likeness is awful. These are supposed to be a replacement for the 5″, a poor substitute. I only got this figure because I bought the Caliburn set as I just wanted the Tardis.
