Enemy Aliens (Destiny of the Doctor 8)

destiney-doctor-8Enemy Aliens (Destiny of the Doctor 8)

1935: a message from a Time Lord in trouble sends the Eighth Doctor and Charlotte ‘Charley’ Pollard to the streets of London’s West End, in search of a mysterious alien adversary – unaware that something monstrous is already on their trail.

They soon discover that an insidious conspiracy is indeed at work, its tentacles extending the length of the British Isles. Proving its existence won’t be easy, however, after a confrontation in a music hall ends up with the Doctor under arrest and Charley on the run, suspected of murder. All their hopes rest in a musical clue and a man named Hilary – neither of which are much consolation, with the two time travellers the object of a nationwide manhunt.

And all the while, the enemy aliens are drawing closer and closer still…

the big finish audios are officially licenced by the bbc however they will never be listed officially as canon. in other words you won’t get a bbc book that features a list of all the stories, tv and audio and goes into great detail about the audio stories.
Some mentions have been made on dvd’s and in books but due to the fact that the bbc isn’t allowed to advertise big finish products they can’t officially recognize them.
Now, are they canon? Course they are if you want them to be!

The general rule is: If a Doctor Who episode or spin-off is broadcast by the BBC on their free-to-air domestic services, it is canon.

Several (but by no means all) 8th Doctor & Charlie episodes were broadcast on the BBC 7 radio station. A larger number of Lucie stories were also broadcast on BBC 7 / BBC Radio 7 / BBC Radio Four Extra (the channel changed its name several times during the course of 8th Doctor broadcasts).

Ergo, both Charlie and Lucie are “official” companions.

However, K’rizz is not; none of his stories were broadcast.

I reckon it’s cannon if you believe it’s cannon

In my opinion more or less anything can count as cannon. Because of how long the show is and how big the expanded universe is whatever you want can count. If it contradicts something then cracks in time or parallel universe can solve it!

Most of big finish is normally considered canon, unless the tv show says differently.

All the Davros audios for example are canon, as they tend to take place between his televised stories, such as –

      [TV] Resurrection of the Daleks.
      [Big Finish] Davros.
      [TV] Revelation of the Daleks.
      [Big Finish] The Juggernaughts.

I’Davros on the other hand takes place before the event’s of ‘Genesis of the Daleks’.

Charley was The Eighth Doctor’s first companion in the big finish line back in 2001 then Lucie Miller joined in dec 2006

It’s great isn’t it. Now I think it’s high time the lobbying started properly to see her and Paul McGann’s doctor in a new episode on the telly! I mean is there anything else that fans want to see more than this?

I love how a bbc product has carried on the idea of india fisher’s character, Charley pollard, as the eighth doctors official companion.
And before anyone says, I’m sorry if i got any of the production companies involved, wrong

You got the companies right but it’s not quite the first time something like this has happened. The BBC used Evelyn Smythe in an animation one.

oh did they, well that’s interesting. I think that considering BBC never really did anything with McGann’s doctor at all before eccleston, they are taking big finish adventures with him as a form of canon 🙂 I’m really happy they are

How is releasing this make it canon? This story like many other audio stories is not official canon due to complex BBC licencing rules. The fact the BBC have already broadcast stories with her on radio is what makes her canon.
