• 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, the longest-running science fiction series in the world; the first episode was broadcast on 23 November 1963
• Each of the Eleven Doctors is featured in the set of 11 stamps depicting the actors who played the role over the last five decades
• Fans can pre-order the stamps by registering at www.royalmail.com/DoctorWho
• From 26 March 2013, the stamps will be available to buy online, by phone on 08457 641 641, and in 9000 Post Offices across the UK
March 26 2013, will see Royal Mail celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world’s longest running science fiction series in TV history – Doctor Who – with the launch of a special set of 11 stamps.
A full set of Doctor Who stamps contains 11 1st Class Stamps, 1 Miniature Sheet, 1 Presentation Pack and 1 Prestige Stamp Book.
The stamps will feature each of the actors who have played the role of the Time Lord over the last 50 years. The stamp design will see the face of each Doctor appearing out of the iconic swirling screen idents, made famous by the opening credits of the TV show. The first two stamps are in black and white, as the first two incarnations of the Doctor were broadcast in monochrome.
Featuring on the stamps are the present Doctor, Matt Smith, as well as David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and the First Doctor, William Hartnell.
In addition to the 11 stamps featuring the Doctors, a five stamp miniature sheet will also be available. In the centre of the sheet is a stamp featuring the Doctor’s space and time travelling machine, the world famous Time and Relative Dimension in Space or the TARDIS as it is more commonly known. The remaining four stamps feature some of the Doctor’s most famous foes; a Dalek, a Cyberman, an Ood and a Weeping Angel.
Andrew Hammond, Managing Director, Stamps and Collectibles at Royal Mail, said: “We are delighted to be able to celebrate this remarkable 50th anniversary. These stamps pay tribute to the brilliant actors that have played the Doctor over the years as well as the adversaries that helped make the show so popular.”
Fiona Eastwood, Product Development Director, BBC Worldwide Consumer Products said: “The Doctor Who stamps are the perfect way to mark and celebrate the 50th anniversary of this much-loved programme. The collection is really impressive, and I am sure they will delight all Doctor Who fans.“
The stamps launch on March 26 2013, but fans can pre-order today by registering at the link above.
The Miniature Sheet
Presented on an exclusive 50th Anniversary card, this Miniature Sheet brings together Second Class stamps featuring four of the Doctor’s most iconic foes (Dalek, Ood, Weeping Angel and Cybermen) around a centrepiece First Class Stamp portraying the TARDIS itself.

February 27th, 2013 - 4:50amWhy doesn’t the FDC and Stamp sheet feature in the Royal Mail website for ordering (other than registration)yet? An early listing helps overseas customers to pre-order them, as it was in the case of ‘Jane Austen’ and ‘Ponds’ series.

February 23rd, 2013 - 12:03pmWhat is the price of the 11 doctors stamps?
Radburn
February 23rd, 2013 - 12:30pmDepends – If you just buy the 11 First Class Stamps it’s £6.60p – But if you buy the Presentation Pack it will probably be a couple of pounds more. This also depends on if they release the Miniature Sheet with it as a full Presentation Set or sell it individually?

December 28th, 2012 - 9:20amWow. I mean WOWWWWWWWWW!!!!
What a start for 2013. Of course Royal Mail know that people like me will buy this as they want to get in on the act.
But for me two things will make 2013 special. First, as many surviving Doctors as possible returning and secondly lets hope that the BBC can request and get HM the Queen to visit the Doctor Who studios and be seen at the TARDIS console. Well, if she can be a Bond girl, why not a Who girl?

SamBentleyUK
December 26th, 2012 - 8:18pmWill definitley be buying these, shame theres no pre-order. Though £30 that is a whole days wages for me, oh well it’s worth it. I’m not to sure on the second class sheet though, maybe that is simply because I have never liked the 9th/10th era vortex.
Talking of vortex’sI LOVE the new ‘2013’ one. LOVE IT!
Radburn

December 26th, 2012 - 8:15pmSomeone on the Sun Newspapers website called ‘Matz’ says on the website in a comments about these cool new stamps –
Paul McGann doesn’t count!’
YES HE DOES COUNT YA SILLY SAUSAGE !! 😛
He counts because at the end of the original 26 year run of Doctor Who in 1989, Sylvester McCoy was left holding the key to the Tardis as the 7th Doctor, and he starred in most of the first half of the 1996 TV Movie, and was seen quite clearly regenerating into Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor, passing the Tardis key over to him.
Anyone who says Paul does not count
SamBentleyUK
December 26th, 2012 - 8:20pmI agree, Paul counts, even though he said he was half-human (but I blame that on the amnesia). You know what always bugs me though? ‘Oh, why isn’t Peter Cushing counted as a Doctor?’ because he WASN’T! Though, most people who say that refer to the Doctor as Doctor Who so…
doctorwhoone
December 26th, 2012 - 8:43pmYeah, I wish people would stop going on about why is Peter not counted as one of the Doctors.
I’m fed up with people who –
Say Paul McGann don’t count when HE DOES !!.
Ask why Peter Cushing is not considered as one of the Doctors ? [For goodness sake, WATCH THE DALEK MOVIES CAREFULLY AND FIND OUT WHY !!]
Always calling the Doctor ‘Doctor Who’ when that’s just the name of the series [except for Peter Cushings version who it is ok to call Doctor Who]
Spell Dalek as ‘Darlek’ [Theres no ‘R’ in Dalek people !!]
doctorwhoone
December 26th, 2012 - 8:44pm[continued]
Think that Daleks are robots [THEIR NOT !!]
I think some people seriously need to be re-educated on such matters concerning Doctor Who.
Stuff like what Ive just mentioned get’s fans like me so MAD !!!!!!!!!! 😛
the Doctor
December 27th, 2012 - 6:59ampeter cush was a human inventor in doc who
doctorwhoone
December 27th, 2012 - 8:20amThe Doctor – Indeed he was only Human and not THE DOCTOR from the TV Series.
Plus peter Cushing’s Doctor could not be considered one of the 11 Doctors anyway, otherwise he’d have two granddaughters both called Susan, one from the series, the other from the Dalek Movies.
NorrisM
December 26th, 2012 - 7:30pmWill these stamps be available in the US?
Radburn
December 26th, 2012 - 8:28pmNo – But Royal Mail ship Worldwide so you can Order direct from them
doctorwhoone
December 26th, 2012 - 8:48pmI hope the American Doctor Who fan’s do get these in America. Those guys and girls in the US are hugh fan’s of Doctor Who, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them have given up watching Star Trek or any other American Sci-Fi or Fantasy they’ve made over the last few decades.
DOCTOR WHO – TV DOMINATOR OF THE WORLD !! 😀
Especially next year for the 50th Anniversary. Steven Moffat recently said that next year “Doctor Who will dominate British TV” . . . . HELL YES !! 😀
jedi jim
December 26th, 2012 - 9:10pmWe could not do this in America, we have a law that prohibits issues with living people. (The Man on the Moon and similar issues legaly show an “Astronaut” even though we all knew it was Armstrong).
Hopefully Royal Mail makes it available to foreign collectors!
Radburn
December 27th, 2012 - 5:25pmHere in the UK we had the same restriction on Living People which has only been rescinded in the last 10 years. As I stated above – Royal Mail ship Worldwide so Foreign Collector’s should have no trouble in getting any of this Stamp Issue
Andy Morley
February 9th, 2013 - 4:48pmI thought the US had done Star Wars stamps with living folks on them ?
Peter
December 26th, 2012 - 4:46pmVery nice but immediately out of date using the cloudy vortex for Matt Smith. Bit odd using the DW instead of the full logo too.
Worse is the miniature sheet… the 2005 vortex, an old Cybusman and an Ood from series 4.
matparks08
December 26th, 2012 - 7:27pmI don’t think the Matt Smith one can be classed as out of date as other doctors titles/opening credits changed during their tenure (Pertwee, Bakers) it’s the one that is mostly associated with that Doctor, though of course, only 2 to 7 are official anyway.
doctorwhoone
December 26th, 2012 - 2:59pmDon’t think I’ll need to buy these. The Sun Newspaper features a nice page about them so I’m just gonna cut out the page and keep it 😀
