SCREEN PRINTED is a 550-page, full-colour A4 hardback that is the ultimate guide to every novelisation of a broadcast Doctor Who story. That’s almost 1,100 different editions of 199 titles over the past 62 years.
Part collector’s guide, part chronicle of the publishing history of this unique range of TV adaptations, at the heart of the book is the catalogue of every print and audio edition ever released. Each title has the publication dates of its first and subsequent printings, both in the UK and elsewhere, original prices and details of their cover variants – over 800 in all. Initially compiled to establish a definitive list from numerous, often inconsistent sources, and repeatedly refined over the last ten years by tracking down the actual books, this has now been thoroughly revised with new sources of information to present the most accurate digest yet produced of print editions of the Doctor’s on-screen adventures.
Added to this are comprehensive notes on the publishing history of each title, how they’ve been repeatedly reprinted for new young readers to discover, and where their eye-catching cover art has been seen again, in print, exhibitions and even on other books. Each painting – by admired artists such as Chris Achilléos, Andrew Skilleter and Alister Pearson – has its original reference sources identified, with some surprising discoveries. And the audiobook readings are brought bang up to date with details of recording dates, readers, timings and more. Plus charts of each book’s pages-per-episode now include the audiobooks’ disc breakdowns.
A further major addition is analysis by JIM SANGSTER, writer of the Escape to Danger blog, of how each novelisation differed, expanded or even contradicted what was in the original scripts. Whether made by the television writers themselves or intrepid storytellers like Terrance Dicks and Ian Marter, these changes show how the books worked to inspire the reader’s imagination, not merely transcribe what had been shown on screen.

September 19th, 2026 - 9:21pmI’ve reached the Davison era. Great book. Still think its a shame the new series novels aren’t given as much detail, especially as the Eccleston stories are 21 years old now, they could have had similar treatment to the old books but its still a great book.

September 18th, 2026 - 2:03pmHad a closer look, nothing about the fan club books, no turlough and the earthlink dilemma or Harry sullivan’s war. And the adaptations section stops at the TV movie so all of the new series books entries are very brief which is a shame. Don’t get wrong though it looks great.

t has A cover image of the K2T book and a mention of new versions. other than that it’s brief.
but it’s a superb book,so much detail, love that Paradise of Death & Ghosts of N-Space are in the Third Dr section, between Dinosaur invasion & Death to the Daleks, lovely. K9 and Co made it, but even though its a Campanions of… Book, its K9 and Co. Both version of Stones of Blood & Androids of Tara made it too.
There is even the Cover for An Unearthly Child audiobook read by William Russell. (not released) but lovely it’s included.

September 18th, 2026 - 9:39pmStarted reading it, only reached galaxy 4 so far. Thanks for the k2t info, hadn’t spotted that on a flick through. Didn’t notice the pertwee stories were there so that’s good news. Like that the Frazer Hines evil book is included between wheel and dominators.

Was not expecting this as I got a delayed email yesterday,like many people. My words can never describe this properly, stunning, wow, Amazing . Never ever thought this would ever be printed. Beautiful. The work gone into this book shine out. Paul has surpassed himself. Wonderful books have produced something very special.
It even has the cover art and mentions for the KEY to Time tome. Bravo our Demon,Bravo.

Don’t think they will be included in this book which is a shame, they might get a mention along with the five fan club target books of the Adams stories and saward dalek tales.

September 10th, 2026 - 10:47amWhoever wrote that fan Resurrection of the Daleks (Paul Scoones….?) Did a much better job at it, than Eric Saward’s one…!
Every scene from the tv version was included…nothing was messed about with…like all of the space station scenes, effeminate supreme dalek etc etc…

David Bishop did a good pirate planet, David Lawrence did city of death which is very enjoyable and jon preddle did revelation. I’ve got the original updated versions published around 2000 which are nice but I’ve also got target facsimile versions which look great on my shelves. No missing shada gap!

I nearly didn’t get them as they were obviously not official versions of them but then I thought, I do want them as target books and I felt it was slightly ironic that they were essentially unofficial versions of unofficial versions!

September 8th, 2026 - 3:21pmI’ve weakened and ordered this. Two reasons against were I’ve spent £130 on books this last month (3 on lulu 1 on obverse) and this is already out of date as it won’t feature the forthcoming key to time hardback. Reasons for… its about the target books!

It’s the content that’s important to me, rather than the complete coverage, because it’s as complete as can be for that single moment of time.

This is a wonderful Labour of love. A book full to bursting with info, articles,reasons and dates .
