News Announcement From Character Options

The set is now available to order while stocks last from www.character-online.com

NOTE: This item will be dispatched no later than 2nd August 2021.

This Character Online exclusive set celebrates one of the most iconic, and now sadly lost adventures of Patrick Troughton’s tenure as the Second Doctor – The Abominable Snowmen.

This exclusive collector set includes an electronic classic TARDIS with & light and sound FX, plus highly detailed Second Doctor Figure, as depicted in the classic 1967 episode.

The TARDIS Type 40 TT Capsule model has different take-off and landing sounds. The TARDIS also features the more heavily weathered exterior and new colour, plus unique reversed front doors, and a square topped Fresnel lamp.

The Second Doctor articulated figure presents the Doctor as featured in the abominable Snowmen episode, echoing the look of the TARDIS with a scruffier that usual appearance and wearing his iconic huge shaggy coat held together by twine.

Perfect for all Doctor Who fans and collectors, the set comes beautifully presented in special presentation pack with diorama insert and Doctor Who heritage packaging.

It’s rumoured that one of this year’s B&M sets is a Hartnell + Tardis set. I did wonder if they might do a new paint job on the ‘Unearthly Child’ figure, make the hat and coat white, and put that as the First Doctor variant with a Tardis?

    • Erato

      July 18th, 2021 - 5:48am

Agree. They could repaint the War Games TARDIS and give it a white sign on the doors and then it’s basically an accurate Season 4 TARDIS (from the The Smugglers to The Faceless Ones). Then, if you take the Unearthly Child figure and paint the scarf white, you’ve got a Tenth Planet variant/set. I think it would be pretty easy to do.

I’m all for the accuracy of the TARDIS exteriors now. Far too many have been released which are inaccurate but could have been if they’d been held off a tad longer, e.g. Monster of Peladon set and the Robot set.

      July 19th, 2021 - 9:51am

In fairness, none of the TARDISes they produce will ever be quite accurate, as the box is actually based on the TY-Js prop used from Season 18 onwards. If they retooled the signs and got rid of the box under the lamp, we could get accurate TARDISes from Season 18 – 26, but I doubt they’ll ever do that, alas.

    • Erato

      July 19th, 2021 - 11:19am

I was discounting the box under the lamp when I made my comment; I know its out of proportion but the pics on this website of the TARDIS exterior variations do show that there is a square base under the lamp on all of them (despite it being very low). I’m just frustrated that the lamp on the War Games TARDIS couldn’t have been applied to the Robot or Peladon TARDISes (unless you customise yourself). Also, the Robot TARDIS lamp is pure white so it would be perfect for an accurate Newbery TARDIS with normal windows for Seasons 14-16. The first Third Doctor TARDIS with the black base is rubbish.

Liking this set. Not as essential for me as last year’s “Movie” Dalek set exclusive, but still a fine figure pack. Nice for people that the TARDIS is electronic with extra sounds over previous versions. The only electronic feature in CO TARDISes that really does it for me is an INTERIOR LIGHT!, which I think is amazing, on the rare occasions it happens!
And we finally get yeti coat 2nd Doctor.
Will definitely get one or two. Quantity depends on the price. I see it as going for £30 or £35. £40 would surely be too much, being TWICE the price of a B&M Doc & TARDIS set!

      July 17th, 2021 - 1:52pm

I’m thinking at least £40. The electronics and new tooling of the TARDIS bumps up price, as well as getting a new plastic-heavy 2ns Doctor, plus free delivery.

no it doesn’t say that to be hoenst, its says “we” as in the “site” won’t name it, we would never do that, but we are not stopping it the comments, there is no point as its all over forums and social media with images anyway.

    July 17th, 2021 - 2:14am

Well, looks like I will be selling my War Games TARDIS Set then. I only have 2 TARDIS in my character options, Pat’s and Jodie’s. Just my look this would be another Pat. Well I’m not having 2 of Pat’s TARDIS when I don’t one of the other classic Doctors, t’would be silly.
Nice fur coat Troughton, very nice to see

    July 17th, 2021 - 12:42am

Just yesterday, I was wondering when we’d see any news of 2021 product from CO. I guess they will still do more History Of The Daleks sets. Unless they somehow undersold/warmed shelves too much.

    • Philip Shaw

      July 17th, 2021 - 6:10pm

I think the Dalek History sets all sold out and were very popular, the next 4 sets are planned for ‘Power’,’Evil’, ‘Day’ and ‘Planet’. Though to avoid all silver releases may have a Troughton with a Pertwee for each 2 batch…allegedly!

    • Gareth Pugh

      July 17th, 2021 - 6:46pm

Yeah, some (to my eyes, genuine-looking) photos of the Power and Day sets leaked a few weeks ago (same time and probably same person as took the boxed Sensorites set picture). Looked good!

    • David Minter

      July 17th, 2021 - 10:19pm

I’m hoping for Power they do a Dalek with gun stick and Dalek without gun stick. They already had a Dalek without gun stick for the 4th Doctor And Dalek set a few years ago, so it’s not like it’s difficult to do.

    • 57305 Northern Princess

      July 18th, 2021 - 1:24am

Power set is a Mutant scooper Dalek and a normal Dalek

    • Anonymous

      July 18th, 2021 - 11:36am

Yes, am I right in saying though that their was a scoop but no mutant I seem to remember?

    • David Minter

      July 18th, 2021 - 2:04pm

Oh, CO actually did some new tooling and created a scooping arm? I would have hoped for it, and, actually, I almost put something in my previous comment about it. How it should surely not cost a whole lot to sculpt a new Dalek arm.

    • David Minter

      July 18th, 2021 - 2:10pm

Hopefully, Evil will have an Emperor’s Guard Dalek and a “regular” Alpha Dalek, with name on it. Like that one CO released for the 8th Doctor And Dalek Set a few years back. Although the Emperor’s Guard was already released with the 2nd Doctor And Dalek Set, I think. So, maybe just a normal drone Dalek and one of them with Alpha on it.

    • Coleman

      July 18th, 2021 - 5:25pm

Yes I’ve seen photos of the two packaged Daleks awhile back. As 57305 Northern Princess says its a Mutant scoop Dalek and a normal Dalek.
Just from memory though I didn’t think the Mutant was included, just the Dalek with scoop. (very nice though)

    • booboo

      July 18th, 2021 - 5:31pm

      57305 Northern Princess

Wonder how many people here instantly recognise what that is, and I’m one of them!

    • The Outcast

      July 19th, 2021 - 9:55am

Not quite an instant recognition, but I immediately knew it was referring a locomotive.

    • David Minter

      July 19th, 2021 - 2:16pm

I thought the Northern Princess was a line of locomotive, too.

I found a YouTube video apparently showing the Power Of The Daleks figures in box. It appears it has a scoop, but no mutant. The scoop appears to be turned on its edge so it looks more like a coin than a strainer.

I’ve seen it on GB and definitely am gonna get it. I need THAT variant at last and obviously there’s a big selling point with the other thing involved in the set.

  • Alex Oswin

    July 16th, 2021 - 7:40pm

Remember that leaked list of B&M figures from back in March? I wonder if a variant of this Doctor will be in a Five Doctors set, like we saw with the Chase Daleks last year.

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2021 - 7:42pm

did wonder that, would make sense in a way

    • Philip Shaw

      July 18th, 2021 - 8:17am

Hopefully the Hurndall variant, 2nd Dr in fur coat, maybe aged, different trousers, and a Pertwee. 4th Dr is mostly from Shada clips and we have that figure and the 5th Dr hadn’t changed much costume wise to warrant another figure that’s not different from the Visitation figure. 5th may appear in the rumoured ‘Earthshock’ set with Cyberleader and scout, like the 7th ‘Silver Nemesis’ set.

  • Alex Oswin

    July 16th, 2021 - 7:37pm

If we’re seeing previous prototype figures being finally released I’m hoping we get the Rose Tyler with more accurate face sculpt that also leaked.

    • Jackson Lake

      July 16th, 2021 - 10:18pm

I think they didn’t do that one originally because Billie Piper didn’t want anymore figures produced in her likeness. But since then, Eaglemoss and Big Chief have released figures of Rose in her Series 4 attire, so maybe Piper’s changed her mind in recent years.

    • Anonymous

      July 16th, 2021 - 10:37pm

Yes definitely, anything to replace the disco dancing Rose.

    • Anonymous

      July 16th, 2021 - 11:24pm

They will never release Rose unfortunately.

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2021 - 7:34pm

agreed, a lot of attention to detail going on here

And i see comparisons are being made between a hand painted years old prototype that should never have been seen and maybe not possible to replicate with a mass produced item are a little unfair

  • the ergon

    July 16th, 2021 - 5:44pm

There will be quite a few shaky fingers hovering over the add to basket next week if they remember. I imagine there will be enough to go around.

  • Stevenbird98

    July 16th, 2021 - 4:44pm

The prototype of the 2nd doctor figure looks a lot better. The paintwork on the coat doesn’t look brilliant for the finished figure with the two tone brown

    • Coleman

      July 16th, 2021 - 5:05pm

I usually don’t re- paint any of my CO figures as I’m very happy with the standard of paintwork on them, however I was thinking about painting the coat on the 2nd Doctor to look more like the prototype version which is superb. (The new paint job is strange).

    • James17

      July 16th, 2021 - 5:49pm

The coat from the prototype is not meant to be the same as the one in Abominable Snowman. The prototype was the Five Doctors coat, which is not the same as the Abominable one, hence the very different, but accurate, paint job. The Five Doctors version is very likely to be released in the rumoured Five Doctors set in October.

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2021 - 5:51pm

    • Mrs Croot

      July 16th, 2021 - 6:02pm

god i woulf hate it being released there, for the one reson there is so much more they could do with it. I would hope for RH 1st (new head or no new parts if they still have the prototype sculpt), Master (new body) and Raston (no new sculpts in a way, if they do an android from earthshock, it would be a repaint). Like why am i complaining, i’m going to be buying it anyway.

That warning was added later in the day … always considered this site well moderated and safe.

    • TimelordTim

      July 18th, 2021 - 6:24pm

Warning or no warning this is still, by far, the best moderated site I’ve seen.

If anyone doesn’t want spoilers then the title of the article is enough given it says: “Due Next Week – News About a New 5.5″ On-line Exclusive Doctor Who Set”.

Clicking on it then, when you don’t want spoilers, is unnecessary and your own choice and risk (especially if you decide to also scroll to the comments).

After all, if spoilers are to be avoided then there is nothing else the article can offer until next week when there is more news.

Too easy to blame moderators and not your own choices.

  • Neutrobyte

All I ask is that booboo etc will post the live link the moment it’s available, and that Character will produce enough i.e. at least as many as with the Jungles of Mechanus set. Weirdly, I just had to re-register, despite ordering 3 Mechanus sets from them last year, so I encourage everyone to make sure everything is ready for when the awesome next exclusive appears.

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2021 - 5:35pm

will do, Jungles of Mechanus was an army builder and people bought many multiples for customs at the time, same won’t happen with this

sort of, fur coat+ Yeti + Jamie.

    • Bundy

      July 16th, 2021 - 7:56pm

Yes, the electronic SFX is going to bump up the price and as booboo notes there are changes to the doors too that may have required some retooling. Also, I expect the figure uses a good bit more plastic than most. I can see this being around the £35 mark.

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2021 - 8:15pm

add in the “free postage” for orders over £30 and i think you are looking at £39.99 minimum to be honest
