Does this mean no more Doctor Who Figurine’s from Eaglemoss?

possibly, we just don’t know yet

For those in the US who have already placed orders, there may be some hope.
I placed an order last week, during their big summer sale. Mostly Trek stuff, plus the Rani/Inquisitor Who set. I never got an email confirmation, but I did see a temporary authorization on one of my credit cards.

When this news struck, I checked my credit cards, but could no longer find the authorization, which seemed a bad sign. Just now, I checked with UPS for some of my Amazon deliveries from their Prime Day specials, and was very surprised to see that I have a shipment arriving this week from Eaglemoss arriving on Saturday!

I’d assumed that I wasn’t going to get it. But apparently, the order shipped last night, according to UPS, so something’s on its way, at least! The weird thing is that I can’t find the transaction on any of my credit cards any more. Maybe I’m just overlooking it. Maybe I got really lucky, and by some glitch I’m getting the figures, but not being charged for them?

Am I right in thinking these were the last Sub scription figurines to be released/dispatched:

    Regular: Issue 215 – Styggron
    Special: Issue 29 – Gravis
Rare Dalek: Issue 18 -Seismic Detector Dalek

And these non sub figurines were put up for sale but never prodcued/dispatched:

Consoles: Junk Yard and 10th Doctor
    Sets: Image of Fendah

Eaglemoss did post something last Monday saying something as been dispatched so it may be 216/217.

Your right regarding Issue 215 and Special 29. Rare Dalek 18 was the last official one although Rare Dalek 19 was put up for sale by mistake. That would probably have been with Issue 220.

The Consoles were a Pre-Order item, and they are the items it seems a number of us need to know what will happen with those. Will we get the items, will we get a refund or have we in the worst case lost our money. Hopefully the Administrators will tell us that when they know themselves.

Image of the Fendahl set was on Pre-Order and then it became a “Notify Me” so that will be another the Administrators will have to decide on.

A sad end to a great collection but I wish all the best for the future to those at Eaglemoss. I have been in a similar situation and its not fun.

      I agree with you concerning:
Regular: Issue 215 – Styggron (I received this on 30.05.22)
Rare Dalek: Issue 18 -Seismic Detector Dalek (I received this on 29.08.21)

I don’t know about the other ones you mention.

Unless the Ironside Dalek was put up on purpose knowing they wouldn’t be able to make it to issue 220 so best way to sell the stock off before all what has happened.

Hoping that the cleaner robot makes it in someway, we know that the stock exists at least just a question of if it will ever get to be sold.

Just have to wait for the administrators, one can only assume and be hopeful on is any stock that was due to be released and already produced will be sold as planned but anything still awaiting factory orders to be placed will be cancelled.

      July 14th, 2022 - 9:52am

I think the iron side was a mistake, this is a multimillion pond company so a few £15’s would not have done a thing

I just got 214/215, i know stock is in the warehouse of these, if they wanted quick money there was plenty of stock they could have put on their website that they didn’t.

Very few people would now about their intension to go into administration, it kept highly secretive in case a major creditor gets wind and steps in first.

    • prototype dalek

      July 14th, 2022 - 10:30am

That all makes sense, hopefully that might give some assurances that they will be able to sell their stock at a later date.

Did 214/215 just arrive today for you?

      Thanks all

BTW – I put in a dusputed payment claim with my bank last night for the 2 consoles I preordered (approx £75 – so a lot of money for me) and the bank credited my account this morning. My advise is to go down that route rather than waiting for EM. Obvioulsy it’s sad for their staff but ultimately, if they owe you money, you need to look out for your self.

Reply to GallifreyStands. The reason they have missed the DW comic strip in the magazine is simply for the pandemic. Written text articles are far easier to work on compared to the legwork that goes into a comic.

I have a small but appreciated collection of Eaglemoss stuff. Some stuff was never released as action figures by Character Options, and Eaglemoss filled some of those slots for those characters. Like the Evil Of The Daleks Emperor and the Cyber Controller from Attack Of The Cybermen. The 5 Doctors Dalek variant. The Moonbase Cyberman. (CO had the Tomb Of The Cybermen version, which is close, but there are slight differences.) The Wheel In Space Cyberman.

You’d think with the amount of licenses they have under their belt that Money would not be a problem, you also have to wonder how it is going to affect those in the Star Trek Starship community and even those who have purchased the Build the Titanic magazine series as then now may never be able to complete the model.

  • PABS

    July 13th, 2022 - 6:34pm

I wonder if the BBC worldwide will look for another supplier such as Panini to continue this amazing collection

    • GallifreyStands

      July 13th, 2022 - 7:37pm

You never know but Doctor Who Magazine is struggling from time to time. It needs a regular TV series to help improve sales once more.

Hence the reason the comic strip misses from time to time

So TV Show becomes more popular again.

    • Gareth Pugh

      July 13th, 2022 - 7:43pm

Hmmm. If this were, say, Panini going into administration I could conceivably see BBC Studios thinking ‘a regular newsstand mag is a useful part of brand building and maintenance, we should look to award the licence to another publisher’ … but sadly I’m not sure a figurine partwork that’s already managed a very impressive 215 regular issues would get viewed as something that ‘needs’ to have a replacement licensee found for it. I’d love it if they did find a will and a way, however! I also wonder if any new licensee who was interested would want to be able to exploit the franchise fully, i.e. to be able to sell all the core Doctors, key villains etc. and might not be that keen unless they could start from the beginning or at least do a lot of rereleases. The Eaglemoss range was nowhere close to scraping the barrel, with lots more cool characters they could do, but even so, being offered a licence to only be able to carry on a very mature range which had already done a lot of the ‘cornerstone’ characters might not be that interesting a thing to bid for.

  • booboo

    July 13th, 2022 - 5:17pm

I know its obvious but we have just been told directly that Eaglemoss has gone into administration.

I honestly can’t tell you how gutted we are for the past and preset employees some of whom we got to know and helped us so much, they put there all into this range, more than people will ever know.

What we ended up with is way in excess of everyone’s expectations when it first started.

Also for anyone else who will be effected by the fall out.

It has also been a huge and very important part if this site for many years and will leave a gap that i fear sadly will never get filled. Its been privilege not only to collect it all, but feature each and very product from day one.

This is not a good day.

      July 13th, 2022 - 6:10pm

It is an incredibly sad day to have it confirmed once and for all. The collection has, in my opinion at least, been the best range of ‘Who’ merchandise ever, one I dreamed of having as a kid. It has been fantastic to see each release previewed here so thanks Booboo for making that happen.

I’d like to send thanks to Neil for spending so much time reading and responding to our comments directly on here too. All the work that everyone put into the range has just been incredible and much appreciated and wish them all best of luck for the future.

We love the product. But, as you say, the cost to the people involved is much more important. I have experienced being in a company as it goes into administration, and the uncertainty is just awful. If there is any way of sending our thanks and best wishes to those involved, please do so from us all.

You’ll have to forgive this American fan 🙂 but what exactly is Administration/appointing an Administrator? Is that filing for bankruptcy like we have here in the States?

    • booboo

      July 13th, 2022 - 5:01pm

similar, administrators basically keep the wolves from the door, it buys some time.

administrators can then look if they can salvage some or all of the business.

It all depends on what the finances are actually like and who is owed the money.

Sometimes a business, or part of it can trade as normal if they think there is a good chance of finding a buyer, a business and is assets are worth far more as a going concern.

Stock (and there will be a lot of it here) can also be worth a fraction of its book value ( what it actually cost to make) once a company has gone completely.

If this does not work, they will sell all its assets for whatever they can get to pay of creditors (in a strict order) and then they will cease to exist.

At the Moment the administrators will be looking at the assets and liabilities to see just how bad, or good things look.

    • Bookcollector

      July 13th, 2022 - 5:47pm

I think unfortunately for companies like eaglemoss they rely heavily on collectors rather than casual purchases. In the normal course of events that is fine, but these last few years have been far from normal. Covid impacted work practices and costs. Then we have the current cost of living crisis. A company like eaglemoss relies people having money to buy (what we have admit) are non-essential items. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they aren’t important to people just that when it comes down to food, energy or a little model from a favourite TV show many people are having to reassess their priorities.
I wish all employees at the company my heartfelt best wishes. This will be a stressful time for them but know what you provided to fans was an appreciated product. Thank you and best of luck in the times ahead.

    Oh dear.
This is very bad news for their employees. I hope some positive resolution comes out of this for them.

Obvioulsly, this is awful news for the EM staff. I wish then well.

I feel guilty asking this but can any one advise the best course of action to take if you have a pre-order. I ordered the Junk Yard Tardis and 9th/10th Doctor Consoles, so its around £75.

Should I contact my bank or wait for EM?

    Advise appreciated!

    • Movie Dalek

      July 13th, 2022 - 8:04pm

It would do no harm to set the ball rolling with your bank, it can take administration some time to establish if funds are available to reimburse pre-orders.

hate to say it but unsecured creditors (ie customers) come a long way down in the pecking order.

until we get a statement from the administrators we just done know

I would give them a call and start the ball roilling if you can.

I know it’s a bit ‘off-topic’, but I am getting a little concerned about Big Chief Studios. I have four pre-orders with them and no sign of any deliveries on the horizon. I really hope they don’t go the same way…

    • Loobop

      July 13th, 2022 - 3:33pm

it’s been over a year since they put the doctor who doctor’s bobble heads up for pre orders i wrote to them a few months ago asking what was going on with these as it’s been over a year and no update yet dalek after dalek keeps being made,i said if there not being made they need to cancel customers orders yet they did nothing.I didn’t wanna cancel it myself as they claim they keep a none refundable deposit which is unfair.legally they shouldn’t even have things up for pre order if it’s more than 3 months till release date.

    • Son of Skaro

      July 13th, 2022 - 3:33pm

I’m worried about them too. Communication is very sparse.
I have a fully paid off sixth doctor on order.

    • Dalekz

      July 15th, 2022 - 3:18pm

Big Chief have always been slow in my experience, they list a pre-order way in advance and then take a couple of years producing stock.
I too have the 6th Doctor paid for and it’s been knocked back until next year so they say.
They do send updates regarding the problems with Chinese factories not being fully operational yet due to Covid restrictions so I hope things improve soon. They really should not list any new pre-orders until they have sorted the current backlog.

  • daz

    July 13th, 2022 - 2:14pm

For those who paid for Pre-orders by card you might as well start the charge back process now as it can take upto 8 weeks.

Even if we get some news soon.

Just contact your card company and raise a dispute and go from there.

Not guaranteed to get anything back but worth a try.

Section 75 protection also applies when using a credit card for purchases of £100 or more, your card provider may be equally responsible for compensating you as well as the retailer or supplier. You can also refer any dispute to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I hope something can be done to rescue Eaglemoss as they make wonderful items nobody else does and of course for all the employees who have been hit by something out of their control.
Massive delays with Big Chief too, I think it will take a while for things to even start to recover from the last few years.

    July 13th, 2022 - 11:09am

Quick Question. I know people are hoping the Administrators find another buyer and the Collection continues.
But considering the Global situation at the moment. I wonder if a new Company could keep all the Chinese Factories open and in production and constantly get new stock out to the world to make sure they become profitable?

    • booboo

      July 13th, 2022 - 11:17am

with a streamlined operation possiblely, they were doing an awful lot of stuff.

There will be a lot of stock, a lot of moulds and prototypes where much of the cost has already been invested.

my main worry is cost, its getting very expensive to produce and ship these figurines.

    • Doug Who

      July 13th, 2022 - 12:30pm

There is also China’s Zero-COVID policy where a handful of cases can lead to a city-wide lockdown, so no guarantee these factories would be able to operate, although I’ve no idea if the factories involved were locked down.

It would be fantastic to think the moulds etc could be sold on to perhaps a smaller, more focused operation but I’ve no idea how viable that would be. Transport issues into UK are still a problem and as Booboo says shipping costs are huge.

The figurine collection had been confirmed up to issue 223 with Azure, so numbers 216 – 223 at least had reached quite advanced stages, plus the Fendahl set and Skaak special. It would be nice to think those would see eventual release and the collection keep going, not least because it would provide some jobs. I doubt anything would happen to continue the collection for those few. If any have been mass produced, then maybe.

This whole situation is just awful for those who are suddenly jobless.

I also feel for those who have invested large sums of money for part-works that may never be completed.

Just read this on Linked In:

Eaglemoss Limited filed a Notice of Intention to appoint an administrator today [12/07/2022]. Greg Connell, Managing Director of InfolinkGazette, commented: “Eaglemoss is one of the world’s biggest names in licensed collectible, marketing and distributing more than 150 collections in more than 30 markets.” Greg added: “revenue peaked at £68 million but had fallen to £31.6 million in the last filed accounts.”

Very sad and as Booboo says below, a big blow for collectors and not just of ‘Who’.

Yes and you can have a crack at that krarg now doug, you were wanting ever so much. Unless you plan on waiting for harrops of course.

      July 12th, 2022 - 9:31pm

I wondered if you might mention that Ergon! 🙂 I might well try a whole range now. Actually, I’ve just ordered the materials for a Krarg sculpt which seemed a simple design…until you really start looking at it. All those diamonds and all slightly different!

Work well underway on a ‘special’. Quite ‘experimental’ and will be intended to ‘glow in the dark’! No idea if it will work or not but might be fun to try!

    • The ergon

      July 12th, 2022 - 9:56pm

At least something to look forward to. Im not going to guess with you saying ‘glow in the dark’ doug but i have an idea. And yes i can be very predictable. Haha.

Booboo. On back of this, this Article page is dated 11th May so needs correcting so it appears correctly.

I only saw it due to post timeline.

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 11:26am

that was deliberate, i posted in the article when it when it actually went live, i did not want it going on the front page or picked up by any of the twitter news feeds before i was sure what was going on, its really there so all links on this site that went to Eaglemoss re-direct here.

When we know for sure whats going on i will bring it forward

They asked us to remove all links from our site (which you just wouldn’t do if the site was just down for Maintenance fop a while) but that was impossible at such short notice.

      July 12th, 2022 - 11:34am

      No probs. Makes sense.

    • Coleman

      July 12th, 2022 - 12:49pm

Wow, sounds more serious than just their site is under Maintenance if they ask you to take all the links down.

Companies House accounts show the director left in December and a £12m loss was posted last year.

      The signs were there.

      July 12th, 2022 - 12:56pm

yes i know that, but nothing is yet official that they have gone completely, companies do survive administration, even if that’s what it is and find new buyers, management buyouts etc

    July 12th, 2022 - 11:14am

Looks like it is true unfortunately…

I tried to send a message on messenger as I always chat that way and it Failed to send as recipient no longer exists.

I only had the 9th/10th Doctor Tardis Console on order.

Such a shame for it to potentially go under this way, a knock on effect of pandemic/China Lockdown’s/ Global Shipping Issues and of course Brexit for trying to get stuff into UK now.

  • Doug Who

    July 12th, 2022 - 10:08am

Very disappointing news really and not least because like many others I have money tied up in pre-orders which we may likely not see again. Well done to those that cancelled theirs! The writing seems to have been on the wall for a while sadly. Such a shame those figurines that had been announced will very likely not now see the light of day.

I wonder if there are any still tied up in container bottlenecks? Certainly at least the latest two consoles and Cleaner Robot have been released in the US and Europe.

Another frustrating case of what might have been now.

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 10:20am

There is a lot of stock somewhere i think and it will still need to be sold at some stage.

I’m hoping this is some sort of “reorganising” pause.

    • Doug Who

      July 12th, 2022 - 10:41am

I really hope so Booboo, although again, why not tell people if that’s the case? Mind you they have always had customer service and communication issues, which have been rather inconsistent from the start. Fingers crossed it’s not the ‘final end’!

There will be some very valuable prototypes somewhere!

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 10:50am

We just have to wait really, i sort of know how these things work so the non communication is to be expected at this time if there are real issues.

    • The ergon

      July 12th, 2022 - 10:49am

So lets just say worse case scenario they have folded, what would happen with existing manuafactured stock? Would this then be offloaded onto the likes of ebay and amazon marketplace as clearance?

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 10:55am

depends, its the administrators job to get the most for the “assets” so they might re-open the website for a time and sell off what they have so they get all the money, especially if there is stock that not been listed before.

They could sell out to a retailer in one lot but it would have to be dirt cheap that way.

They might send it to auction it lots but people will pay a pittance for it that way as well.

Personally, if there are problems (which we just done know), i hope they can re-group and move forward with a clean slate so to speak, this is a big company that no one will want to see go to the wall.

    • Doug Who

      July 12th, 2022 - 11:15am

Good to get your insight Booboo, and hope it is a re-grouping. If, for example, their production factories have been shut down indefinitely with no or little notice, it is bound to have serious implications (and think of those who work in them).

Hopefully, those who have existing pre-orders will eventually get them fulfilled. I imagine they would be a long way down the list for any refunds if the problem is more serious.

Ergon, well done for ordering the latest consoles from the US! Seems a sensible move now!

    • Coleman

      July 12th, 2022 - 12:55pm

It’s making me wonder what to do with my Big Chief account now. Keep everything on Pre- Order and hope for the best or get a refund now and not risk losing everything if they close down.

    • The ergon

      July 12th, 2022 - 1:48pm

Thanks doug. Yes they have just cleared customs and on their way but i am still saddened to think these might potentially be the last figurines from eaglemoss i will own. It feels so half fulfilled with all those figurines we wont get that we all had high hopes for. So unless some uk based partworks company starts again with these from scratch, i will be reluctant to start up collecting this way in future. I still have hope but its fading fast.

      July 12th, 2022 - 2:42pm

Coleman i was thinking and saying this to the other half last night. With everything held back in china, it might just be wiser to cut my losses and get a refund on the 3 incomplete orders and just risk buying from ebay given everything is in limbo and in such a precarious situation.

    • Coleman

      July 12th, 2022 - 3:04pm

Yeah ergon, if everything is ok business wise with Big Chief and all the figures do get made eventually you should be able to pick them up from Ebay. Or even Big Chief themselves as soon as there in stock. (If still Available).

    • Doug Who

      July 12th, 2022 - 3:44pm

      Hi Ergon and Coleman,

It is a sad and ignominious end, if it turns out to be so. Also thinking of all those that will lose their jobs if it has gone.

Not sure how we would even get a refund now if we can’t get in touch. Still have three on order myself.

As you say it is such a shame all the planned figurines and sets will in all likelihood not appear. However on the positive side, the collection was originally only supposed to be eighty issues and think of all those character we have had, the Nimon, the Mandrel, Koquillion, Styggron etc. It has been a lot of fun along the way, not least chatting with you guys and of course with lovely Neil, who was just fabulous taking the time to keep us informed.

Hope it isn’t the end after all that but not looking too optimistic just now.

Coleman, hope you have better luck with Big Chief. Are they in a similar position?

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:00pm

Big Chief look OK for now on paper a least, unlike Eaglemoss. They were very badly hit by Covid that came just after reorganisation which had to go according to plan, and there is a massive hit of 8m lost in “stock destruction” whatever that is.

    • Coleman

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:09pm

Hello Doug, i think ergons already replied but yes Big Chief seems in exactly the same position as Eaglemoss was, what with Covid, Brexit, Distribution problems and Factory shutdowns nothings come out of their Shop now for a good six months. Same as Eaglemoss did for awhile they kept putting figures up for Pre-Order and taking people’s money but nothing ever gets released. Recently everyone had an email that their would be no more Pre-Orders going up on there site for the foreseeable future until production finishes on alot of their backlog of orders. You hope everything going to work out ok. But will it?

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:29pm

Eaglemoss had problems before Covid, on their last accounts there was a big question mark over their future Viability, they had to meet targets and achieve cash flow forecasts – then Covid wreaked it. Big Chief were not in the same position.

    • Coleman

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:35pm

Yeah Booboo, Earlier on I was reading the comment from A*C, about the Eaglemoss Director leaving in December and last year they were 12M in debt. This is all news to me I don’t know how you guys find out all this stuff.

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:48pm

all in the public domain on companies house, although you do need to know a bit about business before you read to much into it.

Eaglemoss has several directors the odd one leaving means nothing.

    • Doug Who

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:36pm

Fingers crossed for your Big Chief figures. I suppose at least they’ve said no more pre-orders now. I think Ergon has been very sensible getting a refund.

Booboo, 8 million worth of ‘stock destruction’ is a huge figure. I wonder what on earth happened there? Taking such a hit cannot be without consequences.

Combination of COVID, the appalling war in Europe and, not least in UK, the ongoing chaos of Brexit, consistently denied by those in ‘charge’ has been awful for so many here and elsewhere.

It makes the comparatively smaller domestic operation of Harrops seem much more secure, but I’m sure they have not been without hassle sending elsewhere.

    • booboo

      July 12th, 2022 - 5:56pm

stock destruction could be a number of things, even a prototyped range (like the figurine collection would have been to start with) that got shelved.

It could be all the returned or damaged stock over the years was kept on the books at “cost of product” value as an asset when in fact it was worthless and all “written off” in one go.

    • Doug Who

      July 12th, 2022 - 7:52pm

Thant’s interesting Booboo. For a while I was getting a lot of damaged figurines, some clearly broken before they had been packed (the missing bits were not in the pack), however they never asked me for them to be returned.

Hopefully something can be eventually salvaged from the wreckage. Sad day really, the figurine collection was my favourite range. Second only to Harlequin in the range of characters they covered I think, and we’ll never know what we might have gone on to get!

This is very concerning. Like me I am sure a lot of people have several back orders. Normally a company has to announce that it is going into administration. However not sure what country law Eaglemoss is covered by. I know there are also a lot of very unhappy people who collect the Startrek figures. Very concerning.

      July 11th, 2022 - 4:44pm

Forbidden Planet sent me an email on Saturday saying:-

“We will be updating our payment systems to maintain our compliance with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) implemented by some banks/card providers in 2021. More information on what SCA is and how it affects you can be found here:

The website will be unavailable whilst we update these systems on 23rd-24th July 2022.

The changes being implemented as we update our systems will result in existing wallet cards (cards saved to your account) being removed from this section of Your Account on our website……”

Eaglemoss website might be something to do with this issue but if it is it would have been nice if Eaglemoss had notified customers. But then again could be the end?! Hope not.

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2022 - 5:11pm

if that were the case there would be no need to effectively shut down their ebay and amazon listings, and put a note up on their Facebook CS pages rather than shut them down.

They have today removed everything that gives them a direct source of income.

I hate to say it but i fear something pretty serious is going on behind the scenes.
