Doctor Who follows the adventures of the last Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who simply goes by the name “The Doctor”. At the end of the 2013 season, The Doctor regenerated into his new form and new personality, and is portrayed by legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.

This new incarnation, the Twelfth Doctor, is a spiky, brusque, pragmatic, yet funny, passionate and fearless character who travels with his companion, Clara Oswald. His adventures with (and without) Clara in the 2014 season lead him to make tough and ruthless decisions that make him question his character and the value of his travels.

This all new 5 inch tall figure showcases the new look The Doctor takes on after the regeneration, featuring his now signature dark blue Crombie-style coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared black shirt buttoned to the top with no tie, and brogue boots. He also comes with his trusty sonic screwdriver.

I have really mixed feelings about these 12th Doctor figures. And please forgive me if this appears as if I’m complaining.
While on the one hand I’m overjoyed we’re getting so many new 5″ figures, where the 12th Doctor ones are concerned there are problems, and not just the height issues or the new face sculpt.
I quite like the new head sculpt and feel as if it just needs a slightly crisper paint job to really bring out the details that are apparently missing. It’s a problem that befell many of the Series 1-4 figures. I’m thinking specifically of the Professor Yana figure. I’ve seen photos of people repainting the face and the Derek Jacobi likeness is excellent, just not with the paint job given.
I feel as though this black shirt figure is the best, at least for screen accuracy (despite the fact that swear it’s not black but in fact a dark blue-green colour).
The purple shirt variant, while I do like it (purple is my favourite colour after all) is too purple and doesn’t retain the red-ness of the actual shirt worn.
The white shirt variant, while screen accurate, feels naked without the cardigan. This variant might have been better if the coat buttons were done up but since they’re using the same sculpt for cost saving measures, it was never going to happen.
The polka dot variant, while I liked the shirt in the episode (I seem to be alone in that opinion) has dots that are far too large and thus make it look a little, not ugly but unsightly.
I have no issue with the Clara figure (mainly because I missed out on the Impossible Set) and I’m really looking forward to the Missy and 8th Doctor figures.
I hope that any future 12th Doctor variants are a little better.
Despite all of this I’ll be buying them all if only to give Character the money to make more figures in the future.
