A new era for the Twelfth Doctor begins today, with Jon Culshaw taking over the role portrayed on TV by Peter Capaldi.

The Twelfth Doctor Adventures: Run Fast, Be Kind is a six-episode audio drama miniseries, released in weekly instalments, with an epic new story arc for the Doctor set between 2015’s Doctor Who Christmas special The Husbands of River Song and 2016’s The Return of Doctor Mysterio.

In today’s first episode, The Second Death by Alfie Shaw, the Doctor is looking for a moment of solitude as he reflects on his final night with his wife River Song on Darillium. But the universe, as ever, has other ideas. On a wasteland at the end of time, the Doctor is thrust into a fast-paced adventure with new friend Ashlorn Wilton (Gwithian Evans).

The guest cast of The Second Death includes Clare Bloomer as Breen/Computer, Sid Sagar as Hari/Desolate, and Robert Whitelock as Alan/Craig/Desolates.

Jon Culshaw, the voice of the Twelfth Doctor, said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant recording with Gwithian. I love how the Twelfth Doctor and Ash are thrown together. New companion actor Gwithian Evans added: “The Twelfth Doctor is my favourite Doctor, and so to originate a companion with him has been amazing. Jon has Peter Capaldi down to a T, and there’s a real dynamic between the Doctor and Ash – it reminds me of Doc and Marty from Back to the Future. This episode’s full of mystery and intrigue, it’s a good sci-fi story with a lot of action, and the pace of it is just insane.”

The Twelfth Doctor Adventures continues next week with The Broken Man, in which the Doctor takes Ash on his first trip in the TARDIS – to Scotland, 2016, where an archaeological mystery awaits.
