B&M 2024 Remembrance of the Daleks – Emperor Davros

This set is due in-store in September.

As a last resort you can search for this set on www.ebay.co.uk

Character Options is delighted to reveal details of the first Doctor Who Collector Sets for B&M Stores, for 2024. Available in September, these two exciting new sets will be the perfect addition to any fan’s collection.

For fans of one of the Doctor’s most feared enemies, the first set boasts the fearsome Emperor Davros Collector Figure, and to further sate the demand from fans of the Daleks, the second offering is a new History of the Daleks set. Each pack features a comprehensive description, accompanied with details on the inspiration behind a summary of which is below.

As all fans know, Davros is the creator of the Doctor’s deadliest enemies, the Daleks. In this special set, the evil genius is depicted as in the 1988 (Corrected from 1982 in the press release) episode “Remembrance of the Daleks” partially mutated with one functioning hand, a cybernetic eye mounted on his forehead he is encased in his self-designed cream and gold support chair in place of his lower body – this mobile chair inspired his design of the Daleks. The box comes complete with a gold limited edition seal and an inner back drop that sets the scene for the Emperor Davros’s evil doings to come.

These new sets will be available in the coming weeks at local B&M Stores. The retail price will be determined by the store.

According to the store system there are over 12 thousand of these. So hopefully no need to pay eBay prices of £40 to £50 when it retails at £12.99

Gotta feeling it will be significantly reduced in that case… i mean, how many double packs are usually produced? Seems like they sit around for ages. Also are we sure its not 3000 of each set?.. since there are four sets this year?

    • WhoCollector

      September 15th, 2024 - 5:12pm

Also this better not be the reason for less sets (more of the davros produced than usual) , if it is, its a bit of a silly move given how the last couple years have gone.

Very chuffed too see this 🙂 espically give more the high chance when it arrives for people too get it better now

Also, yeah it is a good thing for people – not gonna dispute that with anyone, its clear as a crystal. My concern stems from how it will affect future waves, as they are bound to sit around for ages. No one needs to army build emperor davros figures. Not gonna go well, if im honest, as sort as it is. Now, if they done that for the parting of the ways set (provided it has new attachments) – it may stand a better chance. Ultimately, i dont want b&m to stop doing the “better” waves of figures, but that depends on sales of each wave.

      September 16th, 2024 - 1:29pm

Come on Guys, hurry up. It’s my Birthday next week. I didn’t know what I wanted, then I realized these figures should be released soon, so I thought I would have these as my Present. (Plus the other Two sets as a Christmas presents)

    • WhoCollector

      September 16th, 2024 - 1:35pm

So let me get this straight… They made LESS of the army building sets, and more of the “single” type figures… Expect next years wave to be poor. These will sit around. Im not being pessimistic, im being realistic… given what happened with the abysmal triple tennant packs at one point. That killed the three packs regular releases.

    • WhoCollector

      September 16th, 2024 - 1:45pm

In other news, I’ll check b&m at the end of the year during sales. Lol. I grabbed a load of remembrance sets when they were £13 during the 20% off figures & lego week. Got rid of the supremes and kept the renegades

    • Snowman

      September 16th, 2024 - 1:57pm

I think this Year’s Waves have been poor Who collector and Considerably less sets aswell.
I think this is a Knock on Effect from last Year’s poor sales.

    • mick

      September 16th, 2024 - 2:04pm

I don’t know why the odd numbers just going by what it says on the store system. Davros is 12 to a box all the other 3 are 6 to a box

    • WhoCollector

      September 16th, 2024 - 2:04pm

For sure, perhaps these were produced in such big quantities as they expected a resurgence in the doctor who popularity during the 60th and during season 1. I would imagine (but don’t quote) they probably had these in production a long time ago. Do you know what? I even miss the days of b&m monster sets with cybermen, zygons etc. at least re release army builders or iconic villains. Nobody can argue that three tenth doctors or three timelords are better than tomb cyberman / earth shock cyber and sontaran set.

    • John

      September 16th, 2024 - 2:12pm

I’m very very sceptical that is correct. It could be hence fewer sets but considering you can still find last years Daleks in some places………..

    • mick

      September 16th, 2024 - 2:44pm

in my opinion i think b&m are losing interest in the line and will be very surprised if there are any sets next year.
will keep you posted as soon as stock arrives at the warehouse.

    • WhoCollector

      September 16th, 2024 - 3:36pm

Its genuinely a shame mick. As cool as al dewar is, and probably as hard as his job is. Yes, Its a bit of a thankless job most of the time. He hasn’t really gone out of his way to help with the window packaging / old style presenting of figures. They do it for the online, why not b&m. That was the point that dalek sets started sitting on shelves for prolonged periods. Presentation is key. Then there is the constant half baked three packs that started during that time. They say “we have this but it won’t be released yet” or “we put this inferno set on hold” but then get shocked when fans criticise whats in its place. Ive never felt a “i must buy this now!” Since the five doctors figure set. That was the last b&m three pack that actually had decent figures. Three packs always feel like 2-3 of the same figure. A bit of variation would be great. Repaint a third doctor without tie. Do something worth it aha. Got a bad feeling on the three pack this year. Unless its ball joint Tennant. The ninth Doctor new coat sculpt baffled me, especially given that they released dark eyes eight with the old one at the time? Why not do a dark eyes eight jacket wrap instead. And use old ninth …

    • WhoCollector

      September 16th, 2024 - 4:17pm

Booboo, im not trying to fight. Aha. Im not on gallifrey base either. I just get my updates here. Plus, my concerns wouldnt even get listened too by him aha. Im not expecting anyone to actually acknowledge the concerns. But there is a link between the daleks staying on shelf and the packaging change. Since they went cheaper with packing, the sets just dont sell as well. I think its quite valid to have these concerns… it could be the beginning of the end for b&m doctor who sets.

    • Tom Williams

      September 16th, 2024 - 4:43pm

I thought myself they would off landed maybe today but seems more now next Monday most fingers crossed looks like a hunt trip next Monday too b and m

    • Bobby Davros

      September 16th, 2024 - 5:07pm

If B&M are losing interest in Who then they are only reflecting the general zeitgeist towards the show in the nation currently. When Character are forced to release a current doctor or companion as an online exclusive because apparently the big bricks and mortar retailers aren’t interested then it’s obvious the show’s lost its mass appeal for the moment.

    • Snowman

      September 16th, 2024 - 8:14pm

Booboo, if there’s regular Releases of Ruby and the 15th Doctor aswell as CO Exclusives, I presume the Figures are totally different (Otherwise people would only buy One set and not both)?

    • Pipkin

      September 16th, 2024 - 8:48pm

Could The parting of the ways set be an ironic statement from CO?

    • Martino

      September 17th, 2024 - 7:05am

So, the collector who only buys B&M sets when they’re on offer (“In other news, I’ll check b&m at the end of the year during sales”) is blaming everyone else if the line dies off? I see. Well, the only real problem here IMO is that B&M are essentially a large chain of thrift dupersto run by some very hard-nosed businessmen. Al Dewar has pulled off a small miracle by getting them to approve some very esoteric sets for the benefit of US COLLECTORS, but still gets shat on by so-called collectors who seem to be trying to discourage Al from even trying. Doctor Who is a massive brand, it’s global, and these collectible action figures are being OFFERED to us very cheaply compared to other franchises, and still we complain?!? What the hell guys??

    • WhoCollector

      September 17th, 2024 - 8:00am

Martino, you missed my point completely. My point is that they are not producing sets that i personally (and from the looks of things a lot of others, because shelves were full to the brim) want to spend full price on. Last one was the five doctors set, as i said. If they produced sets that actually had some variation and thought. Id pay full price, as i did when i purchased a few of the five doctors sets on release. Im not blaming everyone else either? Im blaming character/b&m with the huge quantities. So please dont misinterpret my comments…

    • Pipkin

      September 17th, 2024 - 9:34am

Actually i recently read that a Liz Shaw figure had been commisioned as part of a future set.
Im all for recycling if they create a new head for something new to keep these lines alive.

    • Jamie

      September 17th, 2024 - 9:46am

I disagree they are not producing sets fans want. Emperor Davros is probably the most requested rerelease and everyone complained when they skipped Ressirection the first time round.

Also it’s a funny turnaround to see people complaining they are producing too many of the B&M sets!!

    • WhoCollector

      September 17th, 2024 - 10:19am

This is the last ill say on the situation, but it will be interesting to see how the sets progress, or regress, in b&m over the next couple years. Ill be the first to say i was wrong if the next couple years bring more interesting sets. I just find the reduced amount of unique sets, but the increase in production of fewer sets to be confusing. I do think a few doctor who fans can be blinded by loyalty some times – potentially to their own detriment. Doctor who is not as big as some people think. Especially today.

    • Jamie

      September 17th, 2024 - 12:08pm

But you are the one saying the B&M sets should have more new stuff, fancier packaging and be more expensive. Whilst everyone else is telling you the reality of the situation.

Is it not you who is blinded?

    • Pjd94

      September 17th, 2024 - 12:28pm

      STOP!

Can we just do like when we’re adding map locations and keep our comments limited to useful information?

Otherwise lots of hopeful fans are just going to check for new info every time a comment is posted just to find people having a pointless argument!

    • WhoCollector

      September 17th, 2024 - 2:34pm

Yep, Jamie. Its entirely my fault that the shelves (at three of the b&m shops near me at least) are full to the brim with daleks… its a shame people see realistic outlooks as offensive. This is also when quality starts to go down, when people praise and thank for less. An example i always use is that a brilliant episode of doctor who today, would be a mediocre episode years ago. Its the same with merch. All i will say is, im not the one making personal digs at commenters Jamie. Im talking generally about the merch.

    • FH

      September 17th, 2024 - 4:36pm

While it’s true that Emperor Davros is a highly requested re-release, the issue lies in the balance and variety of the sets being produced. The overproduction of certain sets leads to them sitting on shelves for extended periods, which can negatively impact future waves. It’s about thoughtful curation and variety that keeps the line fresh and exciting for collectors. The reduced number of unique sets and increased production of fewer sets is potentially detrimental in the long run.

It’s not about discouraging Al Dewar or the efforts behind these releases, but about providing constructive feedback to ensure the longevity and success of the line. The goal is to see more thoughtful and varied sets that genuinely excite collectors so they will actually spend the money on them.

But, of course, ultimately the aim is to ensure that the Doctor Who action figure line remains vibrant and appealing, not just for a few dedicated fans, but for the broader collector community. Constructive criticism and feedback are essential for growth and improvement, and I hope this perspective is taken into consideration. WhoCollector is totally spot on.

Thank you FH. Im not the best when it comes to wording, but that is the perfect summary of exactly what i was trying to say. I appreciate it.

    • John

      September 18th, 2024 - 8:47am

It is interesting what people think can be achieved on a B&M budget! Although when you look at what we have had – Harry, 80s Sontarans, 5 Docs Pertwee, 5 Doct Cybers, Romana 1 and 2, new Sarah, Ian, Voord, Sensorites, David Bradley, BF versions of Docs and Daleks, flip top Daleks (plus others I’ve probably forgotten) we know it has been done to create new and interesting things – yet we get godawful 3 packs no one wants (another spare Tennant anyone?) so something has changed somewhere.

    • booboo

      September 18th, 2024 - 9:23am

B&M sets used to always just be re-releases, taking over from Tescos. Then someone i believe got a bit more interested which coincided with what i assume CO thought would be a lucrative USA market through gogs1

Much bigger quantitates = more investment. The USA venture clearly failed with much of the stock having to be sold of for next to nothing.

Some of the other items were probably already tooled.

So almost back to square one but still getting better variants etc than straight re-releases.

I would imagine possibly the budget 3 packs probably offset what is probably higher production costs of the Dalek packs, or it could be the other way round, who knows.

I hope they are all aware of the new HMRC reporting rules which ebay, vinted etc are now legally obliged to report

More than 30 sales or £1700 in money and your details will be sent to HMRC in Jan 2025, if they see you are deliberately buying new items to sell on a profit they may well ask for a self assessment tax return,

If you are already a tax payer then tax will be due on your profits if your trading is over £1000.

If you are caught out as a serial non tax payer they can go back 10 years – some people may be in for a nasty shock!

If you watch Revelation of the Daleks. In the end battle between the Renegade and Necros Daleks in the tunnel, Roy Skelton goes a bit too Zippy in his portrayal but it is amusing.

I always thought Emperor Davros looked like a zippy puppet. But it is a great design based on the TV21 version.

When you say 50/50 set for parting of the ways do you mean one human one dalek, and will that count as a history of the dalek set because I’m waiting for a journeys end or stolen earth set which looks to be in a year or two the way they release them hahaha

Well the 5 drs was HOTD but that only had 1 dalek

    • FH

      September 9th, 2024 - 2:22pm

Wouldn’t be one Dalek, one human for the parting of the ways set though. Five doctors only had one Dalek in it so that’s all they could have, whereas POTW has a plethora of Dalek designs to use, to the point that one set probably wouldn’t even cover it haha. Not to mention there’s no obvious choice for what human would go with a POTW set, so not sure where this speculation has come from, it doesn’t make any sense!

  • beef

    September 4th, 2024 - 3:38pm

what’s the speculation on the parting of the ways set? Could we be getting some praetorian guards? I really hope so because I don’t think CO ever made those figures outside the 3.75 range. Hope there’s two POTW sets so that we can get all four guard variants but that’s probably wishful thinking.

We got 2 in 3.75, got one in 5” (with the 2013 Dalek doctor wave). With the selection of Daleks for that story, I assume we’re getting updated door cutter Dalek, and a 50/50 split between two types of emperor guards. My guess as to the guards is the buzz saw and the sonic canon, but that’s all speculation

Yes, JRT, I searched all the North Sea but didn’t see anything. (Didn’t realize how Big the North Sea was).

I’m guessing that the friends and foes set needed more work done to it, because originally the announcement was the 3 pack being in this wave, and Davros being in the wave at the end of the year, so this was brought forward to fill the gap since this is an existing mould.

    • Vladnag

      September 3rd, 2024 - 4:15pm

You can see this in the product codes, with Davros ending in 15 and the Resurrection set ending in 12!

I hope this means the three pack has some new mould, there’s a prototype hatless brigadier floating around so I’m assuming that’s in there

    • John

      September 4th, 2024 - 8:18am

Remembrance of the Daleks is the first serial of the 25th season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. The serial was first broadcast in four weekly episodes from 5 to 26 October 1988. So 1982 is wrong

    • beef

      September 3rd, 2024 - 10:24am

it says 1982 in the write-up so it must be 1982

    • Peter

      September 3rd, 2024 - 10:50am

@beef I was born in 1984, and one of my earliest memories is watching “Remembrance of the Daleks” in October 1988. It’s most definitely 1988. Think of it this way: it’s a 7th Doc story… and there was no 7th Doc until 1987. Therefore, it can’t be 1982 and that writeup is just wrong (TBH I’ve found most of the writeups on the boxes quite poor and incorrect in places. Proof reader/editor for the box blurbs wouldn’t go amiss, as they usually just big slabs of barely intelligible text).

I think Beef might have been having a little joke about the writer not bothering to check their facts. (Let’s just all be glad that they didn’t accidentally write about 1982’s Stavros, evil genius and creator of kebabs.)

    • David Minter

      September 5th, 2024 - 11:16pm

Stavros! Is that an incredibly bizarre reference to Marvel US’s Doctor Who reprint comics in color in the middle 1980’s? I still have burned into my memory the “fact” page that had a terrible drawing of Davros labeled “Stavros” underneath it.

    • Rex F

      September 6th, 2024 - 8:09am

Stavros was a Greek kebab shop owner played by Harry Enfield in comedy sketches in the early 80s, based on the man who ran his own local kebab shop (“‘Ello peeps!”). Occasionally a hapless writer would mix the two up and end up having the mickey taken out of them – those fans could be quite merciless! I never knew the mistake had even made it across the pond as well though…

B&M’s online selling experiment was very short-lived, although I’m not quite sure why. I think it was only the wave including the Bradley Tardis and 8th Doctor 3 pack that was available that way.

Stu, do you actually like anything?

    • FH

      September 3rd, 2024 - 6:18pm

To be fair, the wires are very lackluster compared to the original, but I don’t understand the criticism with the face. That’s the second time I’ve seen someone say he looks like he’s got jaundice, but that’s literally how he looks in the episode and is far more accurate than the original release. I will say the promo pics do make it look a bit too sharp and that made me unsure a bit, but after seeing the videos of the actual figure, it actually looks much better and it works very well. So, I’d say above the neck, it’s better and more accurate, below the neck it’s worse and less accurate. I’m pretty okay with that. Painting the wires should be an easy job if it bothers me that much.
