Sorry Doug but i am not allowed to showcase any exclusive figurines on collections where money has been exchanged. The only way you will beable to see these is if you forward your hotmail adress and i would not expect you to do this. Only handmade customs and regular merchandise allowed.

I see and can understand Booboo’s position on that. The site might run into trouble if it is seen promoting ‘bootleg’ merchandise.

I suppose you could do what the Mara guy did and post it on the FB public site if you wanted to do that of course.

Theres a lovely 3D printed Seer head selling quickly, for a 5 inch custom doug. Shame it wasnt the full model. Id have snapped it up.

Is that NW Design on Etsy Ergon? I’ve bought a couple of the larger heads from him and made them into busts.

The Seer is one I might make at some point! Not too difficult a design.

I’m intrigued by the one you say you’re going to buy. Is that a full figure? Also looking forward to seeing your Terileptil Android. If I had the spare cash I would go for a Collector from them. One I would really like to have and not sure I could sculpt that one.

Might be the same guy, i hadnt checked the seller.
No , if he,d been selling a full 3D print seer is what i meant Doug. Funnily enough ive been on with the seer today and on with the arms ,and trying to make 2 identical is taking up a lot of the time. Done the head , legs and body. Just trying to kee p the size down. Ill see how it goes.
I sent the head image of the android the other day to collections but images must not be allowed, only full customs or figures/ figurines. The print is being completed tomorrow and ive just text with regard to how long the paintwork takes to complete so i,ll probably know everything by then. I think maybe within the next fortnight.
The only way i could send the image is directly to you through your hotmail but i wouldnt want your hotmai adress to be seen on an open forum doug.
As for the collector, i mentioned in an earlier post, i dont think i would want to pay a rather substantial amount for what is essentially a bald bloke in a motorised wheelchair. Although i suppose the ‘company’ logo at the back of the chair does make it unique. One of those figurines i would hope gets picked up by either an eaglemoss type company or Harrops. Just not high up on my list of most wanted.

Ah, Brussel Sprouts. I suppose it is that time of year again, (Christmas).
Seriously though Doug, Very good. You sneaked those Customs out on us, I didn’t realise you were working on anything else.

    • Doug Who

      November 10th, 2022 - 2:18pm

      Hi Coleman,

Lol! 🙂 Brussel sprouts is exactly what I thought when they were finished! As you say they are seasonally timed if nothing else.

I had a last wee drop of clay to use up so thought why not rather than waste it. Fills a gap until I summon up the courage to make Lady Adrasta.

Been following the Kandy Man drama on your page. What a shame they arrived smashed. It will be interesting to see how the kit form sells and how much for. I quite fancy one myself if it’s not too dear. I’d like a smaller Heironymous too…save me making one!

      November 10th, 2022 - 5:45pm

I’m Glad you’ve been keeping up with the Kandyman saga, Doug. I was going to leave a comment on your Collections page when he finally put them up for sale, (But as you know he hasn’t sold any yet).
Hopefully you’ll be able to afford one, (me aswell).
I was thinking they should be much cheaper with having to put them together and having to paint them yourself.
So that’s at least one positive that’s come out of this situation.

    • Doug Who

      November 10th, 2022 - 6:40pm

Thanks Coleman, that’s much appreciated. A saga indeed. I hope they’ll be more affordable and maybe less people will want one they have to assemble and paint themselves? I’d like one too although I’m happy enough with my Eaglemoss scale one.

Sometimes, I think we can get too obsessive about having everything – which would be impossible anyway. Certainly it is on my budget! Even if Eaglemoss had kept going, we wouldn’t have got all the characters we wanted. The collectors impulse is too strong sometimes!

I still get emails from Entertainment Earth and the sheer amount of stuff available is just mind blowing! I’m pleased I only collect ‘Who’!

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 6:59pm

Nicely done doug. I did wonder how you would get around that loft insulation look of the wolfweeds but you always manage to find a way. I dont envy you, should you attempt Lady adrasta but i have every faith in you. I dont think the facial accuracy matters, it never bothered Eaglemoss. As long as you capture the representation. The silver facepaint should help with that. If that works out , talking of silver facepaint, you could attempt a cessair of diplos as a companion piece for the ogri.
Ive not heard back from Paul regarding the Kandyman and have been unable to contact him through the closed group as it appears unavailable. He may have just shut the page and the idea down. Ill keep you both updated if i hear back from him.

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 7:09pm

Thats as good a representation of season 17 ive seen figurine wise unless like ‘Who time’, you are thinking of adding erato to that colourful collection.

    • Doug Who

      November 10th, 2022 - 7:42pm

      Hi Ergon,

Thanks – as ever your positive comments are much appreciated! I must admit the Wolf Weeds were less of a serious attempt to fill that gap!

I’m thinking of modifying an Eldrad figurine for Adrasta rather than starting from scratch but still a bit intimidating. I bought some Green Stuff, which looks good for adding to models. I think your right about likenesses although with Eaglemoss the flat paint jobs tended to obscure the likeness.

It did cross my mind to do an Erato similar to Who-time’s. His looks great! But I love Myra Francis as Adrasta. One of the best ever ‘Who’ villains I think.

Going to try a Swampie next!

I hope Paul keeps on with his figures but he must have been crushed when his models were smashed. They looked just spectacular from what I saw. Smaller, more ‘solid’ figurines like Heironymous should work better. He can sculpt really well and I can’t really stretch to the 3D Selfie prices just now.

Looking forward to seeing your Terileptil Android!

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 8:16pm

Of the next 2 im planning on having printed. The malus in church wall is next on the list. if you have plenty of green Doug why not a swampie? Which to go for though the leader, the one from the refinery or the spear chanting one with the green tache.

    • Doug Who

      November 10th, 2022 - 8:24pm

Not sure but don’t think it will be the leader (was he called Dugeen?) his costume is a bit elaborate!

Malus in the wall sounds good but expensive if its bigger! What would happen if someone asked for the same figure, the Mara for example? Would they start from scratch or does it mean they wouldn’t do it? If I were to get one it might be the Collector or the Nucleus. Would love figurines of those two!

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 8:33pm

Paul actually said the prints themselves werent the problem but the outstretched arm with the open splayed fingers which were extremely delicate. He regrets the dynamic pose but its a lesson learnt.

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 10:40pm

I was thinking of both of those when compiling my lists of most wanted. The nucleus might be a problem with those breakable body parts and i think id want something more than the collector to justify the price of these. Vestigial nucleus wouldnt even get a look in.Each file bought is for the customer only and you get to keep those files should you require more prints or plan to upgrade/downgrade to whatever size you would like. All it would cost you then is the price of the print or any paintwork if required..
I was looking at the malus images the other day, it doesnt look that big. I could probably get that done in 4.5 inch scale. And then theres the hexagonal plinth. For small its £5, so i reckon maybe 10 for the larger base. Painting it shouldnt be a problem as its basically a blend of grey colours apart for the wall, eyes and teeth. It wouldnt be too difficult to achieve in clay really Doug.

    • The ergon

      November 10th, 2022 - 10:44pm

P.s. K-9 pointing threatingly at those wolfweeds makes me smile. It would have been great if you could have superimposed his red beam firing at them and smoke coming off them. LOL.

    Hi Doug,

Absolutely huge fan of your work. I mean immensely huge fan. I was wondering, if you had the time, if you’d consider making some more customs and selling them?

I understand this is a long and laborious task but I know for certain I would happily pay to have some of these, and even other, customs in my collection.

    • Doug Who

      October 18th, 2022 - 9:45pm

      Hi Basil,

Thanks so much that’s really kind of you!

I hadn’t really considered that because they are individually sculpted. I suppose it would be possible to replicate them but some of them (like the Kandy Man) took hours and hours of work over months so you might be waiting a very long time!

I have my own list of about half a dozen which I hope I’ll get round to doing when time permits. What characters/monsters would you like to see done?

    • Basil Funkenstein

      October 19th, 2022 - 1:15am

      Hi Doug,

You are most welcome. I sincerely meant what I said. You give some of the Eaglemoss sculpts a run for their money. These would look at home in any display cabinet.

I understand finding parts, sculpting, and making these customs must take a lot of time but it is most certainly worth the wait. I’d happily wait as long as needs be to be perfectly honest.

Do you have a Facebook at all? I’m not sure how I’d contact you at all? I’d be happy to buy in bulk and maybe sort some sort of really good deal out for you for your time and hard work.

I have quite a large list of ideas if I’m honest.

    • Doug Who

      October 19th, 2022 - 11:50am

      Hi Basil,

Thanks again! I’m not on social media (I loathe Meta!) although I was thinking about a Twitter or Instagram account to share images but I’m still not sure!

    • Doug Who

      October 19th, 2022 - 11:38pm

      Hi again Basil,

      You’ve got me thinking!!

I’d be interested to know what ones you most like, just to see if it’s possible to do them. For example, things like the Ogri or Voc are relatively simple to do whereas the seemingly simple Krarg took an absolute age to do!

In the past I’ve often thought about making moulds and casting but never quite got around to it.

  • The ergon

    October 18th, 2022 - 6:40pm

Just had a comment from paul from the closed kandyman group Doug. He says your krarg is fabulous and mentions you being very talented.

Ive just been pricing up those prints again doug and you can get items in whichever scale but the price is still the same and its a lot.
That chap jaymes mentioned this was a belgium company but it is quoting prices in dollars. The starting price is $300. Roughly £280 per 5 inch (or smaller if preferred.
Sent those terileptil android images. They got back to me saying they could do it and in either the cheaper sandstone or the more expensive vinyl (which would come to a whopping $400). Im not sure if thats all in either. They recommended i go for the 7 inch version for more pin point detail but they would say that and who has that sort of money. Not I. I wouldnt pay that for a big chief exclusive. I,m going to give it some serious thought before or if i jump in, and i have many more questions and saving to do if i decide to have one or two made. I,m thinking the Special stuff.

    • Doug Who

      October 12th, 2022 - 3:28pm

      Hi Ergon,

I was wondering if it was worthwhile asking about the Mara specifically. If they have already printed one can they maybe ‘reprint’ it? Suppose that wouldn’t reduce the cost anyway.

Seems like it might be more cost-effective for special editions but not for ‘regular’ size figurines. Maybe the tech will improve and get cheaper over time but at the moment those prices are exorbitant for what they are. If pricing is in US dollars the current situation with Sterling isn’t going to help either although prices were in pounds when I looked.

    • The ergon

      October 12th, 2022 - 4:38pm

You are correct with exorbitant. A 5 inch scale after shipping would be over $400.You are paying for a unique product tailor made to your requirements. Ill wait. Ive a feeling we may know more from Ben in the next month moving forward, with news on those two companies who approached the BBC with regards to licencing Doctor Who figurines.. Or not as the case may be. Its a shame about the prints being so expensive. If they had said up to £250 all in it would have been asking enough. Ill continue to shop around.

  • the ergon

    October 4th, 2022 - 7:21pm

Still cant get over how excellent that Krarg is. I dont need to make one, I can just pop over to your collection and stare at it like a fine work of art.

    • Doug Who

      October 4th, 2022 - 10:14pm

Thanks Ergon that is heady praise indeed! I can’t get over how much work it was. Especially when there is only one half-decent photograph of it. Lots of screen grabs were needed especially for the back.

It was one I so wanted in the collection and I’m so pleased to have it sitting next to the Mandrel and Nimon. I could always do a Wolf Weed to represent ‘Creature from the Pit’ – I think a Lady Adrasta might be beyond me!

    • The ergon

      October 4th, 2022 - 11:43pm

Best thing to do doug,if you plan on fulfilling all the classics why not occasionally try doing a double from certain stories or even a treble if its achievable. I wouldnt attempt humans myself either. Too much faffing about with weapons, arms legs and all that detailing.
Way Out of my league. You on the other hand have way more experience. The krarg proves it and sealed it for me.

    • The ergon

      October 5th, 2022 - 11:09am

P.s Doug -Do you have a thing for season 17, it does come up quite often in merchandise conversation. I would love to see more merch from seasons16 and 18 myself. Criminally overlooked where merch is concerned.

    • Doug Who

      October 5th, 2022 - 12:02pm

Yes, season 17 is my favourite! Tom and Lalla are just perfect and it’s just so entertaining! At the time all the po-faced DWAS alumni decried the ‘silliness’ but I adored the way it could turn from comedy to drama almost from one line to the next. No season (old or new) is perfect and Douglas Adams was right about the way some actors misunderstood how to play the humour/drama balance, but very few have had the sheer joy of season 17.

I agree season 16 is hugely underrated. ‘Ribos’ is beautifully made and the ‘world-building’ and characterisation of Holmes is wonderful. ‘Pirate’ is epic and Tom’s fury at the scale of the Captain’s villainy is fantastic. ‘Stones’ along with ‘Image’ is ‘Who’ doing folk horror at it’s absolute best and combined so well with the SF elements which Hinchcliffe often didn’t do quite so skilfully.

I did enjoy season 18 a lot but the ‘serious’ tone was overdone I thought. ‘Leisure Hive’ and ‘Warrior’s Gate’ were my favourites. In my opinion the show never recovered from Tom’s departure in spite of the occasional flash of brilliance and it was just coming back into consistent form when it was finally cancelled. Shame.

  • the ergon

    October 4th, 2022 - 7:17pm

The Kid on facebook with The Kinda 3D snake isnt divulging his source in an hurry. Someone has dared to ask where he got it but hasnt replied. It reminds me a little of those collectors with the Who lost episodes. They have something so unique and become so proprietorial and in some cases don,t wish to share. Which is their prerogative i suppose.

    • Doug Who

      October 4th, 2022 - 7:28pm

Oh well! I suppose there’s a certain attraction in having something no-one else has, but with these figurines I’d love to be able to share my customs. Somehow, it would make them more ‘official’ if that makes any sense. At the end of the day, it’s a plastic snake so I’m sure a very similar sculpt could be done!

I do remember a while back getting a few very rare colour location stills from ‘Resurrection’ and someone offered to share them with the Who rare photo group on FB so others could see them. The self-appointed ‘experts’ were so rude, it made me doubt I would share anything in future!

    • the ergon

      October 4th, 2022 - 7:41pm

Yes ‘Self appointed’ being the operative word. ‘Superfans’ who think they know more than anyone else. The worst.
I,m sure someone somewhere could replicate the snake but i,ve hunted high and low for customised Doctor Who 3D models and the only ones that are doing these are the ones that are selling what they put out, so its a case of just dropping on a seller who just happens to be making one. Mostly this seems via Etsy.

    • Doug Who

      October 4th, 2022 - 10:35pm

There seems to be a very weird and very toxic hierarchy that operates in fandom (not just ‘Who’) and quite a few obsessive types who seem to get off on a delusional form of superiority if being ‘in the know’. DWAS was riddled with it back in the day.

Most of the 3D models of ‘giant snakes’ (which I suppose are designed for gaming) I’ve seen are far too realistic! The one on FB manages to get that slightly fake look which makes it much more screen accurate. I’m quite surprised he’s not selling them in a way. He was offering to sell his own and he was the guy that was selling the (not that great to be honest) Kandy Man custom a while back.

NW Design on Etsy says he does customs requests but not sure how reliable that would be. Have you ever looked at,
https://www.3dprintingdoctorwho.com/about.html ? Never gone beyond having a look but might be able to help.

    • the ergon

      October 5th, 2022 - 2:54pm

Yes although these figures are still in their infancy and variable and the quality on some have a long way to go yet. I will check out NW design and put it to him with regards to smaller size classic figures.
The Mara snake from FB he bought or so he says from a company in Belgium. The 3D printer they use must be exceptional to produce a print that good.

    • Doug Who

      October 5th, 2022 - 3:29pm

Yes I’m sure the technology will improve in terms of smaller details at a more reasonable cost.

The company in Belgium surely can’t have a ready to print Mara-style snake can they? I wonder of he commissioned them? Be nice to know.

I know NW Design mostly do the Character scale and he does sets including head, hands and feet (where necessary) for customs. He also occasionally does slightly larger scale heads. No idea about smaller scale but seems to be trickier at present, although I know next to nothing about the process!

It would be fantastic to simply be able to scan my customs and be able to print them off for anyone that wanted them. Maybe one day.

  • Doug Who

    October 3rd, 2022 - 6:05pm

    Hi Ergon,

One was actually from a Werewolf special that arrived damaged and Eaglemoss didn’t ask for it back when they replaced it. I had a few ordinary figurines arrive damaged so kept the bases. The other was a damaged figurine on Ebay – you have to be lucky I suppose! It took me a while to get a cheap one in the larger size. For the Krarg I got an 11th Doctor figurine for a couple of quid!

More recently, I’ve seen a few cheap bundles of figurines and I bought one for some possible customs down the line.

I have made a couple but they take work to get right and it was easier to buy them.

I use a cheap matt black aerosol paint to cover the inevitable damage once you’ve removed to figure and filled any holes. The brand I use is PlastiKote.

Who is the seller on Etsy? I know NW Design is there and he sells heads for classic and new which are for customising the Character range. They do allow personal customs.

    • The ergon

      October 3rd, 2022 - 8:05pm

Hey doug. I just fill the holes and use either humbrol or liquitex matt but i just noticed yours had a lovely sheen to your bases thats why i asked. I havent seen the plasticote brand but it does just the job on yours.
Ive seen the heads,. So lifelike. The seller im referring is called kyle. Its further down on etsys site. Hes currently on with a 2nd wave from the nu who series. I missed the first wave. Hes just completed a wooden cyberman and The foretold. I think there was just one foretold left. Priced at £45-46+ 4.50 p+p. Was tempted earlier so i enquired if he would be putting out any other 5 inch figures in the classic range. I got an instant reply. He said they were just concentrating on nu who at present but wouldnt rule out doing classics further down the line. I stress though these are unpainted pieces but you being a dab hand in the painting department, i figured you might be interested. Im still pondering buying as its unlikely well get anything much in the 5 inch Character lines monster wise and they look to be way better than some 3D prints ive seen out there.

    • The ergon

      October 3rd, 2022 - 8:22pm

I noticed though The foretold doesnt have the dangling bandage on the arm which may be a problem for 3D printing machines. I know paul Brookes said it was easier to do the larger scale models to capture all the detail on The kandyman than it was to do the smaller scale eaglemoss versions which means it would omit wiring etc..

    • The ergon

      October 3rd, 2022 - 8:25pm

Wave 1 must have been an ice warrior, zygon and cyberman from nightmare in silver.

    • Doug Who

      October 4th, 2022 - 10:37am

      Hi Ergon,

I got the PlastiKote spray paint on Amazon. It was quite cheap and does the job very nicely with no issues of brush marks.

Will have a look for the 3D printed figures but I won’t go down the custom 5″ figure route! There is enough out there to collect and I’m running out of space! Don’t know that much about 3D printing but the smaller scale certainly seems to mean issues with finer detail. I haven’t seen any doing a smaller scale that the 5″.

I’m hoping we’ll get news about any unreleased Eaglemoss figurines this month. Ben said there might be good news but if course that may not be ‘Who’ related.

      October 2nd, 2022 - 12:01pm

Thanks Tim! Much appreciated as ever. I’m going to have a break before starting any others due to work but have plans for maybe four more.

Shame the Warlord ‘Who’ range is ending. You’ll just have to track down more Black Tree/Harlequin ones. I can’t remember if I told you about https://eoeorbisuk.com/ ?

You can find almost the whole range there and they always have a sale on some.

    • TimelordTim

      October 2nd, 2022 - 9:52pm

Hi Doug, taking breaks is always good. Looking forward to the next ones in due course though.

That’s the site I’ve been using for a while now. I had got my first few on eBay but when I found that site it was a no-brainer. Much cheaper and direct from source. Their delivery can take a bit of time as you have to wait for stock to come over from their American warehouse or something. I’ve ordered from them 3 or 4 times and each time had to wait about 4 weeks for delivery, worth it though for the cost saving compared to eBay.

I’ve actually got some Harlequin ones ready to paint, as well as a few Warlord ones, I’ll get to them at some point soon I reckon. But I think I’ve about got all the ones I want now. Makes it all the more disappointing that we are losing the Warlord range.

    • Doug Who

      October 2nd, 2022 - 10:14pm

Yes it’s a great site for those but as you say can take a wee bit of time for orders to arrive. I couldn’t believe how obscure some of them are, down to Nero and Napoleon!

Inspired by you I’ve made a few mini dioramas with the bigger Harlequin figures like the War Machine and Dalek Emperor. I’ll take some photos when I get the chance.

Might get a few more of the Warlord sets as they are such lovely sculpts. Shame they have given up the license.

Hopefully there might be some good news about any unreleased/undistributed Eaglemoss figurines that made it into production soon.

Doug can i just ask where you get all your spare plinths from? can,t find any ‘specia’l plinths anywhere on Ebay for under a tenner. Got about half a dozen regulars left, after they are used i,ll call it a day unleass i can get a joblot cheap. By then a new range will most likely start up. Do you repaint your plinths before you add your model?
Incidentally just noticed a guy doing waves of 3D printed figures for now, of new Who, on etsy and are proving to be big sellers. Tried contacting him earlier but my post wouldn,t go through for some reason. think it was because i wanted him to customise some personally for me but Etsy dont allow 3rd party selling.
