QUATERMASS AND THE PIT
Hobbs End, Knightsbridge, London.
Whilst working on a new subway tunnel for the London Underground a group of construction workers uncover a strangely shaped skull amongst the rubble.
Nearby is another discovery: a large, mysterious and impenetrable metal object.
Initially mistaken for an unexploded bomb the origins of the object and its strange power are far more horrific and terrifying than anybody could have possibly imagined.
Is it of this earth? Could it be the ancestral link to mankind’s evolution? Or could it be an ancient link to unleashing ultimate evil?
There’s only one man capable of unravelling the clues, his name is Professor Bernard Quatermass, a man of science who thrives on the dark mysteries of the world, a man with answers. Written by legendary screenwriter Nigel Kneale, Quatermass and The Pit is a seminal British sci-fi classic.
Highly influential, it’s renowned for its creepy plot and eerie, disturbing atmosphere.
There is nothing else like it.
Special Features include:
*New UK exclusive interviews with Julian Glover, Mark Gatiss, Judith Kerr, Kim Newman and Marcus Hearn
*Audio commentary with Nigel Kneale and Roy Ward Baker
*World of Hammer – Sci-Fi Episode
*UK and US trailers
*Interview with Joe Dante

A brilliantly thought-out scary story that will haunt you long after switching the telly off. This must be due a re-make!
Posted by: KORSAIR October 11th, 2011
This scared the collywobbles out of me when I was young great story by one of Britains best sci fi writers, shame the Dr. and the Professor never met though, now that would’ve been a great crossover.

It was disturbing aswell as intriguing for me to watch aswell ! Itwas about a year and a half ago that I saw it !
And I’m 16 going on 17, so the story was genuinely one of intrigue and fright, yes, for a mature audience.

Actually the British Rocket Group and Bernard (Quatermass) is referenced a couple of times within the new Doctor Who series.
British Rocket Group – Christmas Invasion.
Bernard – The Planet of the Dead

Posted by: Henezwho October 10th, 2011
What has this got to do with doctor who????
Posted by: Radburn October 10th, 2011
Nigel Kneale was approached to write a story for Classic Era Who but turned it down & was very dismissive of Dr Who. But many references to Quatermass (ie Bernard) & The British Rocket Group appear in Classic Who & even New Who such as the ‘Bernard’ measurement from “Planet Of The Dead”. 70′s Pertwee era was envisaged by Producers as an “earth bound Quatermass” & the film itself runs as a Pertwee/Baker era story. In fact David Tennant was given the role of the 10th Doctor the evening he starred in a live broadcast of the “Quatermass Experiment”

Aswell as being a Doctor Who fan, I am also a lover of all things sci-fi and am utterly ashamed to have to say that I have not watched this EVER! Oh please let me win as I’m not just the only sci-fi lover in my household – we all are. And this would definitely give me brownie points with them – not just for getting it but also for winning it! Good luck everyone x
Posted by: Dark Knights and Bloody Dawns October 9th, 2011
Oh Yes one of the greats – BTW Just watched the Dominators, 2nd Doctor, just released Fantastic!
Posted by: doctorwhofan27 October 9th, 2011
i haven’t seen this, but i’m just wondering how this is related to doctor who.
Posted by: King Ninja October 9th, 2011
It is actually related to Dr Who. Dr Who was made as a ‘childeren’s’ Quartermass…Only to be more educational (period settings etc.) and less dark than the adult series…Perhaps funny that the VERY dark and VERY adult Torchwood was born as a spin off from Dr Who! LOl!
Posted by: Anonymous October 9th, 2011
Actually, in Rememberance of the Daleks it is jokingly suggested that Quatermass happened in the Doctor Who universe and there are similar comments in Planet of the Dead (although it could be refering to it as being a fictional work but it’s not clear).
