I think the different retailer exclusive Missy variants helped kill the original figure release off. Character should probably have included two heads in both releases to cover all possible variants if customers decided to buy both.

Purple: hatted neutral and hatted grinning heads
Black: hatless neutral and hatless grinning heads

In the end, one figure which sales should have solely gone to Character Options ended up being spread thinly. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

think its all pretty much irrelevant, the on-line exclusive clearly didn’t work

looking at some of the stats I have against the perceived promotional value of other sites, this should easily have sold out

But it could have worked and should have sold out if the sales weren’t divided amongst different retailers with their own variants.

also, on amazon the Smartphone Operated K9 is reduced to £17.20 from £69.99, the Interactive Cyberman Attack down to £12 (with shipping) from £29.99 and £8 off the Doctor Who Monolopy (down to £22.99) – all of these I don’t think have featured on this site yet – hope you find this useful 🙂

I have a feeling that the line is resting this year like the show. Hard to sell toys for children when the show is not on. Hopefully we will get some new stuff in 2017. If I’d realised the packaging was the only exclusive thing from missys character release i would have waited til now as i open my figures anyway.

to be honest from a collectors point of view it shouldn’t matter if the show in on or not

B&M sets look to be doing fine as is the 13 Doctors Set in the USA from what i can see, bring out the right stuff and it should still sell fine.

Pretty obvious the on-line exclusive did not work

Net result is that we stand no chance of getting any more classics now and it looks like the line is dead as far as the UK is concerned.

Far to restrictive circulation in the UK (and I’m not talking the big hitters)

      Missy wasn’t a classic

Exactly, if a new series figure like Missy didn’t sell well, it pretty much confirms the fates of the Classic line

Doctor Who is just dying, i hate to say it, my room is full of nothing but who merch. But there’s just more bad news after the next, I remember a time when everyone watched Dr Who, there seemed to be figures in every shop and it was one of those essential shows that everybody watched, but now my friends and family have became bored of it and it feels like I’m just clinging on to nothing – the way things are going it wouldn’t surprise me if they cancelled figures all together. There’s a slight glimmer of hope that next year it’ll pick up again, I really hope it does… 🙁

Jordan…re your comment and concerns over the show “dying”…just keep the faith my friend! It’s possible to survive a hiatus or a dip in popularity…. Take it from someone who lived through a time when the show wasn’t popular and went through the wilderness years before 2005..!

      🙂

      show is fine

Merchandise isn’t, not as far as the UK is concerned anyway

    • Jordan Scott

      September 1st, 2016 - 11:32am

Can’t imagine what that must have been like! Merchandise wise, I really do hope that it’ll pick up again – there’s so many missed opportunities for figures such as 12 in Davros’ chair etc.

I emailed them and this is the reply

I refer to your recent e mail regarding information on the Dr Who Missy Figure.

I can confirm, all the Doctor Who Missy figures in our warehouse were delivered to Toys R Us.

The stock at Toys R Us and forbidden planet are the same item.

The RRP is 19.99, it is the stores discretion of what to charge for their products.

I hope this fully answers your query.

    Kind Regards

Yes, it does rather blow that Special Limited Edition ‘Online’ exclusive out of the water. If they only made 4,000 of each UK ‘Bespoke’ packaging how many did they off-load on TRUS?

  • Phil

    June 23rd, 2016 - 10:22pm

I wouldn’t say it is false advertisement so much as liquidating the backstock on missy figures that didn’t sell. I am sad if this is the Exclusive online going to toys r us but not because I payed more for mine…rather because it makes me fearful of no more new figures aside from the Doctor and companions.

Either way it’s misleading. The black one is the same. So much for limited edition. Which Co ate still saying on their website.

If these are the exclusives they are selling then that is false advertising from CO as they were clearly meant to be exclusive. TRU should have received the FP versions and not these. I hope this is an error.
