The Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver
The Doctor’s multipurpose tool is a Gallifreyan device, with numerous settings, easily controlled at the press of his thumb. The Doctor has had many sonic screwdrivers of different designs throughout his life, and this latest one was created from within the TARDIS console itself after the previous one was destroyed during a confrontation with Prisoner Zero in the village of Leadworth. This new sonic is larger, with a luminous green light but continues to be an essential part of the Doctor’s equipment as he explores the universe. This faithful copy of the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Device has spring loaded extending action. Pressing the button on the side of the handle activates the LED and Sound FX which operates in CLOSED mode. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode.

I had bought my one, a VERY LONG time ago, back when Series 5 was still on the air.
I only got it open and made on Christmas eve this year, because I gave up trying to find “l 1154 type batteries” which don’t exist !!
And so I just use the so-called demo-batteries.
You know the buil-your-own-sonic ? Does it include demo batteries for all of them or just one set ?
Those batteries are rubbish value, it’s like, 1.39 for a pack which has one, and I need about four in every Sonic !

My Sonic survived for a year, than it refused to pop back into place, and stayed in “OPEN” mode.
Does anyone know how to fix it, i used a lighter to burn plastic on to green plastic below the gold, then i sanded it so it could it could still be pushed into “CLOSED” mode. It helps a bit.

I’ve found a way to activate the screwdriver in open. Gently release it then grab the cell type disk sticking out with you finger nail and pull down!!!!!!!!!!!

My scrwdriver broke after 48 hours
But do you know what’s unfair, I bought two. One for my friend (who has the same name as me but not space fish!) and one for me. The on I got for my friend is still working. Also, in the packaging mine was open but in these pictures are closed .

That’s not true! Well mabe CO are retracting it I don’t know but the thing about it not lasting a week definately isn’t. I’ve had mine for about 5 months and it’s still perfectly working.

Seriously people, don’t buy this! It is doomed to break! BBC have retracted the product! They know it keeps breaking! I’ve kept my second non-working one (mainly down to the fact that it looks good and I can’t be bothered to mail it back) but heed my warning! It will not last you more than a week! I’m not trying to cause any offence but this product is malfunctioning. Please listen. I don’t want more people falling into the trap that I did. I don’t even think the cause is the hidden sounds. I think it just gives out.

I got 1 and it broke(the sound stopped)after not even a day:( so i got a new one and after a while the sound went on that too:( so i got a new one and so far its still working

the only thing annoying with this is that when you press the button so it springs up,the flap over the red button flicks open!they should have made it with a little clip so it stays in place

i got mine from fobidon planet along with the 11th dr crash set. My sonic screwdriver has run out of batteries they were the ones that came with it so they lasted quite along time i droped mine and the flap covering the red button broke !!!!! but i had some super glue so i just glued it back on you cant really tell th difference that is the life of my 11th dr soinc screwdriver!

These are instock on the argos site! Type in dr who scroll down and click 2 and there are a few things there and look down until you see the sonic screwdriver. About 2 days delivery or 2 left? I cant remember.

True because when i bought mine two months ago, the argos in middleton didnt do them, neither in manchester. They had one left in the argos in rochdale. I reserved it and went to rochdale and got the sonic screwdriver. The sonics cool isnt it?

My nan was on holiday in Britain and she bought one back to Aus for me. Its great but the light and sound don’t work when it’s extended dad’s gunna fix it for me.

I live in the U.S.A. and I got one at my local comic shop. A day after I got it the sound gave out after I accessed the 2 secret sounds.The next day the light stopped working to. I brought it back to the store to replace it But they did not have any more, so I had to wait almost 6 months for a replacemet to arive. I finaly got My new one but I’m afraid to use the secret sounds to much incase It might brake again It cost Me almost $40.00 And I won’t be able to replace it again if it doe’s.So I hope and pray that this one lasts.

1. Get some of those circle battries
2. Put them in the sonic
3. Work! (well hopefully) if not you’re screwed!

Are you wondering about the red button because it’s not doing anything? It should work the light and sound when the ‘jaws’ are open. If it doesn’t, it’s faulty (very common I’m affraid).

I am well annoyed because my sonic screwdriver lost it’s sound but I thought it was just the demo batteries playing up but when I changed the batteries it was still the same!!! I waited ages for mine to come as I ordered it off eBay from Midco Toys. I think I’ll just wait for the one that comes out later this year from Wow! Stuff as it’s meant to be a die-cast replica and has interchangeable heads!

WHO1 , that was way before the episode was filmed. They did eventually managed to get the prop through. And he didn’t use a toy one in “The Eleventh Hour”. Because the toy one only works when completely open or completey shut. Whilst in the episode it kept on going on various levels and still worked. Check it out and see

did you know that matt smith was going on a plane with a load of stuff and the person working there said that he couldnt bring the blue sonic screwdriver along with him on the plane so i think thats why he needed a new one. the sonic screwdriver that he used in the first episode, was acually a fake prop like the ones you buy down the shop!!!!

unscrew bottem silver slider…..you see two mall holes in the green tube…put a small screw in so the head sticks out but not too much as to stop it sliding in and out….now when you open the screwdriver it stops it from opening fully by about 1 mm…..and the sonic noise cums on automatically….ta da…!!!

Hey guys I’ve just find out a cool way of using the Sonic Screwdriver without using the red button! Once you’ve extended the screwdriver just ever so slightly pull it an incy bit back down and the screwdriver lights up! Try it it’s much easier!

Wow! Just got this from the post it’s AMAZING!! At first I was a bit annoyed with the red button thing as it seemed a little bit awkward but there’s a good way to hold it without having to turn it over (although you need to use both hands).

appart from the battle with the batteries and then trying to get the two halfs of the sonic back together, its a nice toy, but ill like it more as we see matt use it in the show most likely, the sounds arent as loud as i would as i would have hoped, but theyre still nice, now all i need is an empty house so i can run around with it acting etc

mine hasnt arrived yet but i do know the batteries that do come with it are weak as they are just for like “try me mode”, so i ordered some of amazon – pack of 10 and they came today, so ill have three refills when the tester batteries die.

I don’t know if anyone elses sonic screwdriver has done this but when I press the button (whilst its closed) 4 times and then hold it in it can make another two different noises. One is a siren and the other the light flashes slightly and its the sonic noise but it breaks in the middle and then starts again.
At first I though this might just be something wrong inside but if it was then it wouldn’t make those noises because they are obviousley recored onto the sound chip.

oh no i orderd it from the normal forbidden planet ill have to try and ring them tomoz or do you know how to cancel it on normal forbidden planet?

yes got to youre account, then to orders, then click on your order number and then cancel orders, or something along those lines, you did order from the forbidden planet megastore right? as thats were i did mine at, if you are succesful, and you still want it then i can reccomend “galaxy 4″ as thats were im doing mine i and its very quick.

yeah thats what i found so ive ordered a pack of 10 of those batteries of amazon with express delivery just now and it only came to 3.00 or something, so they will last a while as three new ones i would assume will last a while anyway so ill have three lots.

Apparently the free batteries are just demo batteries and therefore dont work for long causing loss of sound – always try new batteries first peeps

I bought this yesterday from Toys R Us. Got it home and found that the open jaw light and sound functions (using the hidden red button on the end) didn’t work. Took it back and got it exchanged. Today, the whole sound functions packed in. Took it back and exchaged again. Within an hour, this one developed the same fault as the first one! I decided to get a refund. Three round trips of 20 miles each for nothing.

Yes, When its extended there is a button right at the end under the cap which works the sound effects.
I don’t know exactly how to cancel your order you should have had to create an account so you should be able to log back in and cancel it.

Got this at Toys R Us for £14.99 today.. I chose this over the Twin Doctor’s Set despite there being both variants sets (exclusive and standard release) because the paint job oon the raggedy doctor is not good at the top under the tie…
The Sonic is wonderful, it is chunky with a good paint finish and great sound fx with some weird (sounds like lazer star wars gun) occasionally and obviously the LED light
I like the green tip as it resembles the the blown glass inside the new TARDIS column much like the porcelain effect on the old sonic screwdriver that was on the old TARDIS column.

i cancelled my forbidden planet order, as they didnt have it in stock as i got emailed back this morning so i ordered it of Galaxy 4 this morning and they have offered dispatching of today or tommorow definately
and offer varied delivery, i chose first class which delivers on a saturday! all in all it was a easier order and came to 17.50 or something, but thats with good delivery.
They also promised that they had it in stock, that might be a good place for people to try? its instock!

the only internet site that is sellimng it that i can trust is forbidden planet, they have it for 13.50 with 3.00 postage. Not bad really but ill probably get it on monday next week as i ordered it yesterday – not a working day, – its bank holiday today not a working day, and then theyve got 4 days before the weekend to deliver it, i think it was royal mail first class, is saturday a delivery day? cant wait it looks awesome.

ive bought online this from forbidden planet, ive drifted from doctor who for a while but last nights episode pulled me straight back, i cant wait to get it, i hope its not to big because the info says its bigger than the 10th doctors one so, illl have to wait and see, does anyone know how long delivery is? it says nothing about preorder, it was presumably released in forbidden planet stores last night, im really worried because i also bought the batteries seperately over the tinternet but have just remembered the sonics always include them anyway, or does this one not have them, because the packaging does suggset you have to buy them……. im trying to cancel my order of the batteries anyway…. just to be sure……
