The Doctor Who Companion The 12th Doctor Volume Two

Doctor Who Magazine continues its in-depth chronicle of the show’s production with a 100-page volume dedicated to four memorable episodes of Series 8 starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald:

  • Time Heist
  • The Caretaker
  • Kill the Moon
  • Mummy on the Orient Express

Andrew Pixley’s unparalleled behind-the-scenes coverage – originally presented in the partwork Doctor Who: The Complete History and now revised and reproduced in magazine format for the first time – examines every aspect of the stories’ development, from scripting through to transmission and beyond.

Richly illustrated with rare images, this is the essential guide to the series that took Doctor Who in a remarkable new direction…

Available from WH Smith from Wednesday 16 October 2019 priced £7.99 and digitally from www.pocketmags.com priced £6.99.

I find these specials really hard to find. By chance I came across both this and volume one in WHSmith’s in Derby a couple of weeks ago!

My W H Smiths never have any Doctor Who magazines in on time. Volume two is still not in. From experience, it is no point asking the manager because she is a thoroughly rude person who doesn’t care about customers. “If it’s not on the shelves then we haven’t got it” type of attitude. How do these W H Smith managers keep their jobs?!

I work in a WHSmith and unfortunately it’s not the managers fault that magazines don’t come in. If they don’t come in unless we claim it we actually lose money so it’s the news company that sends the magazines. They’re the same company who relay magazines to Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Coop and smaller newsagents as well. Just so you know for future reference with everyone on here unfairly blaming WHSmiths, which has always stocked Doctor Who magazine and it’s actually one of the more popular magazines. Perhaps people have brought them already. I know my store orders in magazines especially for customers and some even have folders put aside for them on a regular basis. Sadly it seems today people want things as soon as possible. As James states below it all comes down to the supplier unfortunately. Head offices also choose what stores get sent. Perhaps ask if you can have a copy sent in for you? Hope that helps 🙂

I used to work for whs. When your delivery is Late in from the supplier makes you late processing the deliveries which means late getting new mags on and old ones off the shelves. Not helpful when supplier doesn’t always pack and send magazines for the right day. At least whs is still on the high Street to sell the numerous different titles of magazines. I used to stock over 1200 titles.

That may be the case but and I know it’s not necessarily down to WHSmiths but rather Menzies who are tasked in getting it to Smiths, Tesco, eff but the customer service in a lot of these stores is appalling! When you go in every day looking for the magazine’s and they’ve still not arrived you’d think the staff of indeed manager would show some initiative and contact Menzies and find out where the magazine’s are or when they’re going to get delivered? Majority of magazine publishers assume their magazines are on sale in the shops on publication date but it’s not often the case.

That’s normal for WH Smith isn’t it, they are shocking at getting magazines in on time

I genuinely don’t know how it stays in business. Worst shop in Britain.
