The Doctor Who Companion The 12th Doctor Volume One

Doctor Who Magazine continues its in-depth chronicle of the show’s production with a 100-page volume dedicated to the first four episodes of Series 8 starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald: Deep Breath, Into the Dalek, Robot of Sherwood and Listen.

Andrew Pixley’s unparalleled behind-the-scenes coverage – originally presented in the partwork Doctor Who The Complete History and now revised and reproduced in magazine format for the first time – examines every aspect of the stories’ development, from scripting through to transmission and beyond. Richly illustrated with rare images, this is the essential guide to the series that took Doctor Who in a remarkable new direction…

Available from WH Smith from Thursday 13 June 2019 priced £7.99 and digitally from pocketmags.com priced £6.99.

Does anyone know if these are replacing the essential bookazines because there should be another of those out about now?

Eventually, there is one more Essential than their place will be taken by these episode guides.

Sainsbury’s Emerson’s Green has copies – normally pretty good for this kind of thing.

I always loved these magazines and so I’m so pleased they’re picking up from where they left off! It always seemed strange they stopped doing them!

I’m hoping for a nice matt with spot gloss cover like they used to do for these!

Is this a new line as it’s not one of the special editions?

Seems a waste of money just the same info from
    Complete History books

It’s for different consumer bases-people loved these magazines and didn’t buy the Complete History as a) they hoped magazines like this would eventually come along and b) it was more expensive for the books, and wouldn’t appeal as they wouldn’t fit the rest of the collection. For £8, you get the same info and pictures here from two £10 issues of the books. Whereas those who bought the books probably wouldn’t get the magazines as they weren’t special/collectable enough or something.

Is this just the complete histories again then? The way it’s described sounds like it’s just the reprinted in magazine form?

It’s the information from the Complete History, but reprinted to match the bookazines they made for Series 1-7 and SJA. I dare say they’ll be updated too with new facts, merchandise, etc.

Is this the same as the specula editions they did a few years back like “ the official guide to the 2013 series” etc. If so I loved them so can’t wait for these!!

Yes they are! Loved them too, was always disappointed when the Yearbooks replaced them but understandable seeing as they wanted the Complete History to have an edge.
