Catch the yuletide episode of the hugely popular Doctor Who series starring Matt Smith as the Doctor, alongside a stellar guest cast including Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), Bill Bailey (Black Books), Arabella Weir (The Fast Show) and Alexander Armstrong (Armstrong & Miller). Doctor Who Christmas Special is released on the 16th January 2012 priced at £10.20 for DVD and £13.27 for Blu ray.
Set during World War II, Madge Arwell receives tragic news that her husband Reg has died in combat. Unable to break the news to her two children, Cyril and Lily, she takes them away to a country home for Christmas. But there’s something familiar about the caretaker – a man with a bow tie who seems to bring Christmas spirit and other strange things with him.
Most exciting of all there’s a big blue box sitting under the Christmas tree, but is it really a present or a gateway to a magical, mysterious adventure…

Very unlikely, the next series includes both this Christmas Special and the next one so it likely wouldn’t be until January.

The split isn’t happening (or at least at the moment it isn’t happening) but they have just stuck both the specials into their Series 11.3 schedule just to be on the safe side in case of a split happening last minute.

Nice! I’ll order this from the BBCShop next week I think (Blu-Ray version though) since I have no idea when this is supposed to be coming out in Australia.
And it gives me an excuse to pick up Sherlock S2 at the same time lol.

Might get it; the extras sound interesting. The actual episode was kind of meh though. A christmas carol was better

Yeah.
After the epic and mind-blowing season finale of Series 6 (which was massively entertaining in itself) a christmas special that starts fresh which creates it’s own story that makes practicly no sense whatso ever, is going to be somewhat paling, in comparison.
Atleast this gives them alot of scope to ahve an improved, advanced story and atmosphere with the next episodes,

Yh i got them
I got zygons, cybermen, daleks, sontarans, weeping angels and clockwork droids.
The best bit was the ZYGONS!!!

I didn’t, just the special features sticker.
Posted by: Dalek Jake January 16th, 2012
Got mine today.

I liked this, but the special features would have been better with Karen, Matt, Arthur and Steven instead of a bunch of americans!

Wrote a comment already about getting it today from ASDA for £9. Really pleased with it. Also got U.N.I.T Files with it!

Next week I’ll hopefully return to ASDA to get Sherlock series 2 and maybe The Sensorites!
Best of Doctor Who looks interesting! Downside is they didn’t include the CIN sketch! 9/10.
Posted by: @SirRoundSound January 16th, 2012
I got mine for £5.49 on play.com, Which is quite a good price, but £9 isn’t too bad
Posted by: The Wooden Prince (Previously Admiral Icktheus) January 16th, 2012
My ASDA is incredibly cheap. May have a look around online now before getting Sherlock and The Sensorites. Just in case!
Posted by: GallifreyRules January 16th, 2012

Posted by: The Wooden Prince (Previously Admiral Icktheus) January 16th, 2012
On Amazon it’s £12.99

Gopt my copy today, nice to see the Worlds in Time Stickers in it with a code for the game, Its a nice little feature on it, and the Best of Doctor Who I have yet to watch but will do that in a bit, but I am really pleased with my copy, One of the best DVD New Series covers in a long time
Posted by: The Wooden Prince (Previously Admiral Icktheus) January 16th, 2012
Worlds in time stickers?? I didn’t get that!
Posted by: @SirRoundSound January 16th, 2012
Yes there are 6 stickers, Zygons, Clockwork Droids, Weeping Angel, Daleks, Cyberman and Sontarasns, and a unique code to put into the website to unlock something, not playing the game so have a spare unused code now
And I pre ordered mine of Play.com so it may possibly be exclusive to Play
