Special Feature – Paradigm Daleks

The Doctor Who Site special Feature – Paradigm Daleks

There can be no doubt that when the Paradigm Daleks first burst onto our screen during series 5 that probably the most controversial change in Doctor Who’s history had taken place – a total redesign of The Daleks. Fans were divided from those who loved them to out right hatred of the new look – and things certainly got very vocal.

Today most people cant wait to buy them, our poles consistently show they are the most popular figure with over 1,460 people voting the Drone as the figure they were most looking forward to in wave one. The Drone is still top even after all the latest releases in our currant poll beating all other available figures – even www.character-online.com sold out of the Supreme Dalek the same day it was first put up for sale and specialist retailers best sellers lists are full of Daleks.

Anyone who attended The Proms or Doctor Who live will have been left in little doubt as to their popularity amongst younger fans.

This feature looks at what’s available to buy and includes a very special new experimental feature to the site – a 360 view of the Drone Dalek 6″ Figure. We hope to do much more like this in the future.

Many years ago, the Daleks sent out thousands of egg-shaped Progenitors containing the genetic coding of the race, so that new Daleks could be created whenever necessary. One of these Progenitors was found in war-torn England during the Second World War and transported to a Dalek ship. However, because the Daleks that found it had been genetically modified by their creator Davros, using his own DNA, the Progenitor did not acknowledge them as pure Daleks, until the Doctor identified them as such and the Progenitor created a new race of powerful Daleks as a result. These Daleks were led by the white-cased Supreme, and include the enigmatically titled yellow-cased Eternal, blue-cased Strategists, orange-cased Scientists and the red-cased Drones.

The latest wave from Character -the full set of Paradigm Daleks. Only the Drone and Strategist had been included in previous assortments with the Yellow Eternal confined to Hastings in America and a 6 figure set which first appeared in Australia (but which is now readily available at Toys R Us in the UK). The Orange Scientist was released with the 11th Doctor Jacket-less figure as part of the SDCC 2010 collection but was then made available via Forbidden planet in the UK.

The only currant exclusive figure is therefore the “underhenge” Dalek in the Toys R us 6 figure stone set.

The second six figure set – some of these boxes are labelled that the Eternal Dalek is exclusive to the set but we now know that isn’t the case. Contains Yellow Eternal Dalek, Silurian warrior with removable mask, Smiler, Dalek Ironside , Weeping angel (regenerating) and The 11th Doctor.

Both The Red Drone and Blue Strategist are available in Remote control versions.

Currently there are two 13″ remote control Paradigm Daleks available, the Red Drone which has been widely available for some time and the Yellow Eternal which appears to be exclusive to Toys r us. The pictures below show them together with the 6″ figures.

Merchandise doesn’t stop at figures and remote control units. Below on the left is the Wesco coin bank and on the right the bubble bath with the WoW stuff desktop patrol Dalek in the centre.

Great page! I really like the 2010 Daleks, they remind me of the epic 60’s Film Daleks.

All this time on and I still absolutely HATE these abominations, without doubt the worst redesign ever. Get rid NOW

Could you make a 360 Strategist, Eternal Scientist or Supreme? Would be great!

Not a very good image, but it will be cool if this was a figure!
