50th Anniversary Collection 11 CD Soundtrack Tardis Edition

SilvaScreen 50th Anniversary Tardis Box Set

Can occasionally be found by searching www.ebay.co.uk

This unprecedented collection of seminal music from the BBC TV series, Doctor Who, is being produced as a one-off limited release.

Doctor Who: The Tardis Edition is a boxed set of eleven CDs collecting Original Soundtrack music from 50 years of Doctor Who and housing them in a specially constructed Tardis.

Composer and BBC Radiophonic Workshop Archivist Mark Ayres has spent over a year researching, compiling, editing and mastering the set with the principle work being done on the first seven discs which will showcase much material being released for the first time.

The initial fruits of this work being made available last year as the four CD release – Doctor Who: The 50th Anniversary Collection.

Great idea but poorly executed. The TARDIS box is utterly awful. I’m not normally one who talks about pin point accuracy, but this is so very obviously out of proportion. The dimensions are clearly wrong.

    Disappointing.

Bit disappointed with the TARDIS box. It’s too fat and too glossy. Needs perfecting

I’ve not got the precise dimensions of the TARDIS case, but looking at the image and comparing the sizes there with a standard DVD case, I estimate it to be approx 22cm wide and 36cm tall. According to plans of the TARDIS I’ve come across, the dimensions of the real one are approx. 127cm wide and 246cm tall (excl. light)

The width is approx. 1:5.77 & the height is approx. 1:6.83 (to remain to scale it should be either 22cm wide x 42.6cm tall; or 18.5cm wide x 36cm tall) – so, yes, it’s slightly wider than it should be proportionately.

Very disappointed with this, no new music from series 1 to 7, just rereleases. And most of classic music is also being rereleased from the 4 cd special last year 🙁

That’s correct – CDs play anywhere.

      DVDs/BluRays are region encoded.

I think they do, but some import’s won’t work on CD players. I’ve got a CD from Australia that wont’ work on my CD player or laptop, but will play on my desktop and in my car! Not that this answers the original question, but it should work on something in the US!

As a rule, CDs will play on any CD player – the only exception that I am aware of are CD-Rs which some on-demand suppliers use, which may not always work on all players

It has now been confirmed that there is no post-2005 music on this set that hasn’t already been released.

Effectively, you’ll be paying £135 for around 8.5 discs if you bought all the post-2005 CD releases.

Yes, the TARDIS box is limited edition packaging, if you would read the information posted above where it says:

“…Silva Screen will be releasing an 11 CD set, one for each Doctor, all presented in a specially created Tardis….”

For all those who are interested in this release, I’ve just seen via Silva Screen’s Twitter feed that Blogtor Who are running a series of artwork and notes from the release, up to disc 9 at present. Images show which episodes will have music featured.

Looks amazing, just waiting for them to announce the pre order!

I’ve been waiting for this for weeks, it’s going to be my 21st birthday treat for myself and I’ve been saving up. When’s it coming out in stock? I never got the email. Please somebody tell me and send me a link, I really want one, I’ll be devastated if they don’t have it.

When the pre-order closes you will no longer be able to purchase the TARDIS Box Set and it will not be available in any other on-line retailers or shops. The current price is £135 plus postage and packing and we will deliver to anywhere in the world. There is a possibility that the price will be less than this, in which case you will be charged the lowest price when your order is completed.[/QUOTE]

Looks like I’ll be ordering the 4-disc set. Not paying £135 for the 11 disc set.

@ Sunny – The pre-order link was sent directly to those who signed up for advance notification, but it *might* be on the Silva Screen website.

      Have you tried looking there?

Just looked on the Silva Screen website and the link is not active. You may have missed your chance to buy this as it will most likely sell out to those who pre-registered interest.

It is *only* available from the Silva Screen website and will be unavailable anywhere else.

Online details from Silva Screen state there will be previously unreleased content.

I received an email with a link to register my interest so it is “possible” this may only be released by a specific distributor and not go on general sale. Only 1000 copies.

I would recommend anyone interested sign up to the Silva screen newsletter to get updates

This looks great, I love what Silva Screen’s do for the Doctor Who soundtracks!

I just hope the 9th, 10th, and 11th Doctors discs will be predominantly new previously unreleased music so they can include some of the tracks they missed. Although, this maybe more difficult for the 11th Doctor as they where doing the fabulous 2 disc editions for all of his series and they very rarely missed anything out!

However, if they can manage that then this set would be another fantastic Silva Screen release!

This seems a bit farfetched to be honest. In an interview (I don’t have a link) Murray Gold stated that he wrote over an hour of music for EACH episode, despite only being 40 minutes long.
