set-13

ut

Its that time of year again with SDCC 2016 about to start

Wednesday saw previews night between 6-9 pm, that’s 2-5am in the morning for people in the UK.

From what we can see nothing new was on show.

It starts on Thursday at 9.30am which is 5.30pm in the UK so no late night waiting for any information.

If anything is on show it should soon become clear.

The only Doctor Who items we know of so far are the 2 Titans, Ghost 12th Doctor and Glitter Tardis, Titan Comics, an electronic 20 questions Tardis, 5.5 “x 7” giant mug and Rory’s Story Cubes.

This year we have noticed the “exclusive” title has been dropped in many cases and replaced with “first to market” which means it is only sold there first.

I suspect all eyes (where Doctor Who is concerned) will be on the Underground Toys Stand where, assuming its on show, something “big” is coming (and no its not the mug)…

The wait just got too much and broke me in the end, I’ve just ordered one from eBay today, I was getting far too concerned that I was gonna miss out on this. Incredibly excited for its arrival. What’s the latest on its avaliablity (or should I say, lack of) in the UK?

I wish they would give us a better 2nd Dr. Let’s have a smiley face. He wasn’t grumpy for 90% of the time. A war games version wld have been good with large shirt collar & ripped trousers. Or even Fury with a bobble hat. This 2 Drs is good, but only Dr not to be represented by his era.

I’ve seen someone on here say that American Forbidden Planet has this set, but can that be? I mean if they have it why not our forbidden Planet, are they not the same company?

My set has just arrived and I love it although there are a few too many of the figures have gaps in the arm joints where the bicep section slots into the shoulder section, worst of them all is 8 where you can even see the peg! Should (hopefully) be easily pushed in if I unbox them.

A friend of mine who went on holiday to New York came back today and he very kindly and unexpectedly bought me this set from Forbidden Planet while he was there! I was so shocked as I was not expecting it at all and I was very grateful indeed! Hope this arrives in the UK soon so everyone else can get their hands on it.

Only one I have a problem with is the 8th Doctor’s blood. That being said, I have skin-colour airfix paint so I could paint over it. It’s particularly annoying as I think the post-crash Doctor would fit better with the goblet and bandolier of the collector series version (and more effort would be made on the blood detail in the collector series), whereas a clean version fits better with a set of 13 general Doctor costumes with their sonic screwdrivers.

The blood looks very much OK on mine, but i know what you mean. I suppose they gave more accessories for the collector’s version and removed them for the 13 docs set to bring it under budget

Character replied to me this week confirming that it will be Toys R Us that will be selling it.

I have emailed Toys R Us but have received no response as yet.

I don’t understand why when there is so much obvious demand in the UK that none of the companies involved are coming forward publicaly with any information – surely they would want people to hold off sending abroad for this and buy it from them?

Perhaps their sales, marketing and PR departments are all on summer holiday……..

    • booboo

      August 17th, 2016 - 3:45pm

I have no doubt FPi will get it its just a question of when, they dont do a any PR, it will just go up for order.

The Toys r us situation is unclear, last word was they wont be taking it but that situation seems fluid

    • Bundy

      August 17th, 2016 - 4:35pm

Is it possible that TRU could be getting a supply from Character and FPI could be getting a supply from Underground and that is why both names keep coming up?

That still doesn’t explain why TRU are saying they are not stocking it when Character are so adamant that they are though.

At this rate when it does finally hit our shores we’ll be complaining that it is now incomplete as it doesn’t include the 14th* Doctor we’ve been watching for over two series now (and what an unexpected casting she was!).

      * War Doctor included 🙂

Have my set of the 13 Doctors. Quick thoughts; Repaints on 3, 5 and 6 are excellent. 7 is so very subtle, not impressed. 8 is just ok, as it isn’t screen accurate to the blood on his face. I like the darker tones on the War Doctor. Seems more true to his character, and the 50th tv Special. The 5th is average. 9 has a wonky eye brow paint application. 10 is only slightly improved. 11 is better than original, better face paint this time, same hair as original. Jacket looks better. 12 is…a mess. I had to do a paint correction to the hair. Skin tone was splashed into his grey hair. UGH!!! 1 and 2 look very nice indeed, the new paints on 1 make you look at it as if it were a new sculpt. And Troughton from the Two Doctors…well, I loved the 2nd Doctor. He was the Doctor when I was born. That is it. Worth getting? I think so. Cheers.

Might come across wrong, but here i go. Why are people excited for the 3rd doctor? It is nothing more than a repaint, they are too lazy to retool the jacket by sculpting the buttons on

    Reply
    • booboo

      August 14th, 2016 - 12:02pm

retooling cost 1000’s, and they clearly did want any new investment in this set what ever the reason

    • 100,000BC

      August 14th, 2016 - 12:07pm

Well for a first they aren’t ‘too lazy’, it’s just that it would be a lot of money for such a small change – and might mean that with the brand as it is, sufficient profit would not be made from the set.
Secondly, it’s the variant that people have been waiting for for a long while as most variants of this Doctor have already been released.

    • doctorwhofigurephotos

      August 14th, 2016 - 12:09pm

I get your point and feel the same but the price of the set would be higher if it had new or tweaked sculpts. The repaints keep it at a reasonable price for the customers.

    • Cyberman Bill

      August 14th, 2016 - 6:49pm

I love this 3rd Doctor. I know the buttons are painted on but I think he looks spectacular. People are excited for this one because we have wanted the red jacketed 3rd Doctor forever!!! Now we got him. Also, it’s not “Laziness” that the buttons aren’t sculpted on… It comes down to money. If you would pay 500£ for this set they would re sculpt every figure. Since they no that’s not a reality, they go the cheapest route possible and give us repaints which makes the set affordable. I for one am glad they did. I love this set!

    • Anonymous

      August 15th, 2016 - 8:34am

I understand your point, they did it for costs, but I think everyone is excited because its such an iconic costume.

    • Jordan Scott

      August 15th, 2016 - 1:37pm

Yeah I doubt the set would be priced at £500 for sculpted buttons. At the minute the set isn’t reasonably priced anyway, my expectations are getting really low with Doctor Who toys now, I’m beginning to doubt this will even come to the UK at all!

  • Chris Hadden

Understandably, people want certainty, and I doesn’t help when CO customer services are telling people to contact Toys r us and there CS have no information about it.

Although I’m sure it will, there is nothing official anywhere to say the UK will get this set and people get worried and are paying over top prices to ensure they get one.

    • Stop that TARDIS

      August 16th, 2016 - 3:10pm

People are sick of American getting it better than us despite being a British programme! Why should we wait while others can get it!

    • WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?

      August 16th, 2016 - 4:37pm

Mainly because the show is thought to be more popular over in the USA than it is here which can be proved further being as they have more conventions over there and have guests like David Tennant attending. Another reason is becuase CO and UT are guaranteed to make more money off the set over there than they will here.

    • booboo

      August 16th, 2016 - 4:49pm

Its not more popular, just a different market, the viewing figures are still huge in the UK as opposed to the USA and it has a much larger population.

The other problem is Character seem to have all their eggs in one basket as far as the UK is concerned, and they will dictate the delivery schedule

I was one of the ‘few people’ who decided to buy this dr who figure set from the USA. What made me decide to impulsively buy this set, was the lack of definitive information on whether this figure set would be available to buy in the U.K later on in the year. Given that I decided to pay a bit over the odds for this. It was expensive to buy this from the USA,but if you are a Whovian completist classic collector like me then I have to admit this does seem to be a limited run as my own set is numbered like mine then for me this will be the final piece that I will be adding to my figure collection. The variant doctor figures are all nicely done :-).

    • Anonymous

      August 15th, 2016 - 8:39am

I agree, I am very tempted to but it from the US incase it does not come over here (Ok I appreciate it probably will), but I would prefer to have it than miss out or risk paying an extra £100 because it becomes rare.

If on the other hand FP/FPI/TRU or someone said look we are getting some in at the end of September and you can PreOrder, I would happily wait.

Its just not knowing what is happening that is frustrating, and all the companies talk about it like its a State Secret and they can’t confirm or deny if they are getting it in, I mean come on a simple Yes or No would suffice, a PreOrder would be better, but I can wait for that.
