Is this £4.50? I think that’s what I can make out on the barcode but I’m not sure!

Thanks for the feedback folks – the art is by Joe Cummings, do check out his website: http://www.cummingsillustration.com/

We did agonise over which Doctors to include and how many, but there was no way we could fit them all in and still have a good cover in the sense of a definite focus point, space for coverlines etc.

So while the Whovian in me was appalled at myself for shortchanging other Doctors, the editor was delighted, and I hope you enjoy the issue if you get a chance to check it out 🙂

I had a look but really couldn’t justify spending £5 on such little Doctor Who content. The way it looks from the cover “Collectors Edition – Doctor Who Special” makes it look from the outside like the whole issue is devoted to Doctor Who, which isn’t the case, unfortunately.

Oh and how uncool is it to call yourself a “Whovian”?

Bit mean! But I would agree about the word who una. I always the being called a who vain because it just sounds far too geeky. But I do like being called a Doctor Who fan…

      James,

Thanks for contributing to this forum. Magazine is a worthy addition to the 50th Anniversary celebrations. As you may have seen below, I think Tom Baker has, and always will encapsulate the “essence” of Doctor Who. The cover is well judged and highly original which makes a change after so many years of photoshop collages which date badly in comparison. You do not need all 11 Doctors on there because that imagery will become dated as any “all-the-doctors-so-far” collages do.

      Thanks again.

TBH, I prefer ‘Whoover’ because I’m often dragged along the carpet while hooked up to the mains.

In all seriousness, I’ve never really latched onto the ‘Whovian’ thing. It took me about three years to even start watching New Who, it just didn’t even feel like ‘my show’ – which is a terrible admission for a magazine editor!

Totally appreciate your point about the size of the content @Johnny, it’s like Tom’s nonsense perspective trick in Robots Of Death, it looks big compared to our rivals and compared to previous editions of SciFiNow (we didn’t give Star Wars this much space when the Blu-rays came out, or Star Trek: TNG) and we did try to do something different.

      No problem, James.

I’m old enough now (just for perspective by the way, I’m 40, and a fan of the show since 1976) to make a definite judgement on whether the magazine is worth the money as opposed to blindly buying it because it has “Doctor Who” on the cover.

I’m not interested in “Hunger Games” or “Spiderman” or the latest “Batman” or “Star Trek” films so unless the content is 50% or more about “Doctor Who” then the chances are that I wouldn’t buy it.

Good luck with the sales of the magazine anyway, though.

Personally I thought there was a good chunk of stuff in there and unlikely to be repeated elsewhere. If you are like me get pretty much all the sci-fi and movie mags out there, there is a degree of repetition (How many variations of couch potato are there after all ?) Plus (god forbid) someone doesn’t like Who, are they expected to not read anything else? Well played sc-fi now (Been with you since the start and still gt all issues)

There’s a recreation of “Marco Polo” in the docudrama – Gatiss is not recreating lost episodes.

      That would just be silly.

Yes, whilst the artwork is never perfect to everyone’s taste, it is far more worthy than the standard collage we get these days.

We don’t need all 11 Doctors on there. Whoever painted this captured the essence of Doctor Who.

I might get this, the artwork is good but the faces look a bit different…
