Robert Harrop Mandrel From Nightmare of Eden

Available to order while stocks last from www.robertharrop.com

“The mandrels have a perfect right to exist. In one way Tryst was right. Humans do have some kind of choice. Let’s just hope that no one else discovers the secret.”

The TARDIS arrives on the space liner Empress which has become locked together with a private ship, the Hecate, after colliding with it on emerging from hyperspace.

The Doctor and Romana meet the scientist Tryst, who has with him a Continuous Event Transmuter (CET) machine containing crystals on which are stored supposed recordings of planets that he and his team have visited.

Someone on board the liner is smuggling the dangerously addictive drug vraxoin, and to complicate matters the interface between the two ships allows some monstrous Mandrels from the mud swamps of Eden to escape from the CET machine – which does not merely take recordings but actually displaces whole planetary areas into its crystals.

The smugglers are revealed to be Tryst and the Hecate’s pilot, Dymond. Vraxoin is in fact the material into which the Mandrels decompose when they are killed. The Doctor thwarts this plan, separates the two ships and returns the Mandrels to Eden.

They are selected at random. Even if you are the first to buy, you are no more likely to have Number 1 than if you were the 50th person to order.

Now arrived. Didn’t know it was on it’s way. Even better in the flesh compared with the photos.

The sculpting and the paintwork seem to be getting better with each piece.

If they ever produce the 6th Doctor, they might need to add another fortnight into the time allowed for the painting process, just to get Colin Baker’s jacket to look right!

Now looking forward to the 2nd Doctor/Troughton arriving. Wonder if they’ll make a black&white variant as well (to match the earlier B&W monsters they’ve done)?

You should put the Mandrel on a spandrel.

I haven’t even ordered a Harrop Mandrel yet so no.
A spandrel is part of a bridge, it’s just because Mandrel rhymes with spandrel. I don’t actually recommend putting the Mandrel on a spandrel, unless you photoshop. I’ve just always wanted an excuse to say “There’s a Mandrel on the spandrel”

I thought it was something to do with spandrel from ‘The Deadly Assassin’. I wont even go there. Part of a bridge. You learn something new every day. Get ordering quick.
