First Big Finish B&M Dalek Set Image (Closed)

This announcement, for good reason, was bought forward by a day

The First Image from one of the new Big Finish B&M Dalek Sets will be released this Friday. We will add any updates if possible, otherwise keep pressing that F5 key on the front page!

Character Options announces new Doctor Who lines planned for B&M Stores

New Malden, London 11th June 2019

Character Options is delighted to announce a new series of exclusive Doctor Who toys that will be available later this summer from local B&M stores (UK variety retailer). Full details of the product line-up (with images) will be revealed in the coming weeks but here’s a small taster of what will be available.

Fans of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers will be able to get their hands on a heritage set of three popular incarnations.. The new blister-pack series will include electronic versions, inspired by the 50th anniversary episode, of the Tenth, Eleventh and War Doctor’s sonics.

For action figure fans,Character Options presents a set of three unique Doctor & Dalek Twin Packs, inspired by the Doctor Who audio series from Big Finish. This includes a brand new take on the Eighth Doctor, plus the Dalek Interrogator Prime, as featured in Big Finish audio book story In the Garden of Death. The two additional Doctor and Daleks sets to be released from this range will feature the Seventh and War Doctors respectively.

This year there will be not one, but two new TARDIS & Doctor sets released, each with a completely new take on both the Doctor and the blue box, inspired by adventures spanning the 1970s and 1980s.

To complete the summer line-up there are three brand new collector sets with a range of three figures in each, inspired by the Classic adventures of the Second, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.

Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options commented: “We are delighted to announce this first taster of what’s to come from our B&M stores Doctor Who toy range.  To reveal the visuals of these brand new products, we plan to do a full unveiling live, which will take place ‘unboxing style’ on Character Options’ own Youtube channel in July; details of the time and date will be announced.”

How long do you reckon there’ll last for, and will all stores get permenant stock??

from what i understand B&M are looking at Doctor who as a semi permanent range rather than just one hit wonders, as far as i know there are considerably more 4th Doctor Tardis than the 3rds but if you want the sets wouldn’t hang about to much.

as far as i know Big finish will show the 8th Doctor / Dalek set, probably by/ at the weekend as its Big Finish day, the rest will not be until July after the “unveiling” video

I don’t know if the B&M sets are going to be for me this year but I am really glad that there are so many classic sets and even big finish sets for those fans out there. I like both classic and big finish but I don’t really collect classic figures and I’m not too interested in the big finish sets. But all that matters at the end of the day is that doctor who figures are still being made in the 5.5 inch form because they could easily not be.

If there is a War Doctor and Dalek set, I want it to be the Temporal Weapons Dalek from Engines of War, but is seems unlikely

Has anyone considered that the new take on the Eighth Doctor could be based on this June Hudson concept drawing? https://mobile.twitter.com/dwcoverstory/status/1134912054672986112
Would be easy to repaint the NotD Figure to look like this, and curiously Al Dewar has retweeted it.

    • Chris

      June 17th, 2019 - 10:48pm

Well they have the mold for it already. It’s the red supreme dale from season four, with two rings around its head. Been looking for a spare supreme figure for a while to make my own custom. Might just wait now and see if this is what it is going to be.

    • The Outcast

      June 18th, 2019 - 6:19am

It’s actually not exactly the same as the Red Supreme but purple and with ring, the neck section is actually somewhat different to that of the Red supreme.

    • booboo

      June 18th, 2019 - 8:48am

its been said there are no new parts so i think we have to assume any Dalek will be a repaint of existing tooling.

Boo boo, do u think these might b the sets we get?

Seventh doctor & Black+Gold Dalek from the Genocide Machine.
War doctor & Dalek time Strategist from Dark eyes

What do u think these are the odds?

    • booboo

      June 15th, 2019 - 9:38am

top one could be right, i don’t think you will get a Dalek time Strategist because of the new tooling / assembly required for the rings

    • The Outcast

      June 15th, 2019 - 10:40am

I guessed that exact set for the 7th Doctor on the thread on GB, but the reaction I got from Fab 14 seems to suggest it’s not that. I’ve seen someone suggest a set based on We are the Daleks, with a unique 7th Doctor variant based on his appearance on the cover and an Imperial Dalek, so for now I’m going with that guess for now.

    • Dan Fellows

      June 18th, 2019 - 10:48am

I wonder if the 7th Dr will be in his create linen suite as per New Adventures. Could easily uses Aston or Master’s Body on these. I’d really like to see the TV movie costume, but not sure how they could cobble that together. The 8th Dr one is intriguing as if it’s not a tweak of the 9th Dr Body, what else could it be? As for War Dr. Just a straight re release or slight change of colours on the costume? Thoughts anyone??

    • booboo

      June 14th, 2019 - 1:42pm

i think all the new sets will be £19.99, they are in new packaging i believe so will probably have a new code.

      Fourth doc set didn’t

    • booboo

      June 23rd, 2019 - 8:42am

I mean the 3 figure sets

The new sets are packet in “solids” meaning there is the same set in each box of 9/12, they were mixed before.

because of that i suspect each set will have its own product code now, probably different from the previous packs as well.

The Tardis sets will probably have the same code as before.

I hope the 3 figure sets haven’t gone up to that too….they were previously £17.99

    • booboo

      June 23rd, 2019 - 8:47am

as far as know there has been no official confirmation of price on the 3 packs, gut feeling is they will be £19.99 now

Because of that i suspect each set will have its own product code now, probably different from the previous packs as well.

That will make it a lot easier for stock enquiries as well

The Tardis sets will probably have the same code as before.

Good to hear that they are planning to release other Doctor three figures sets, as I had read the comments. One made a very good point that over the last few years, we had received a lot of Pertwee figure sets. Understandably, that he was a old favourite, but I would like to see more of the classic figures from other Doctor eras – e.g. Enemies of the 2nd Doctor, who knows. Maybe a three enemy figures from the 4th, 6th and 7th. That would be great to see on the market. But got to wait and see when they come in July.

  • Bobby Davros

    June 13th, 2019 - 9:26pm

If they want the new Tardises on the shelves they’re going to have to do some serious discounting of the 4th Doctors Tardis as both of the branches local to me have countless left and they are no longer shifting.

    • Blue Box Jackie

      June 14th, 2019 - 6:05am

I have found the figure suggestions really interesting.

I love the idea of a “Two Doctors” set with an Androgum 2nd Doctor. I also think a Sontaran trooper from “The Invasion of Time” is a no brainer. I would love a Meglos figure, perhaps it could be in a 3 pack with the Sontaran and an “Attack” Cyberleader?

For a lot of fans, July can’t come soon enough!

  • Voldermort

    June 13th, 2019 - 2:57pm

I think this is all fasntastic news. For too long we’ve have a drought of 5.5″ figures given the decrease in popularity of DW merchandise, and any new figures are welcome by me. I much refer classic figure sets than current Who.

I think if you can afford any or all of these sets then buy them. Give B&M and Character a return for their investment and a reason to keep this flow of figures going and they might just (if all goes well) invest in an exclusive figure.

  • Bobby Davros

    June 13th, 2019 - 1:34am

A cheap idea for B and M would be to release the 9th Doctor TARDIS with distressed weathering and package it with the NOTD 8th Doctor to match the TARDIS seen in that story.

    • The Outcast

      June 13th, 2019 - 5:48am

They actually had plans to do that, but it was too expensive to produce or something.

    • Tyler Prescott

      June 13th, 2019 - 6:58am

The 9th/10th Doctor TARDIS toy is a lot bigger and bulkier, so it would be more expensive, so it’s understandable.

If they were to use that TARDIS though, they’d probably do the War Doctor’s – we never got his TARDIS as a figure.

    • SJF

      June 13th, 2019 - 8:49am

War and NOTD Eight’s TARDIS is exactly the same prop. And they said that they’d had an idea to do that TARDIS packed with NOTD Eight but as Outcast said, it was too expensive and not a viable idea.

  • Anonymous

    June 13th, 2019 - 12:28am

It’s not that I don’t like these sets I do but isn’t the reason why we haven’t had classic figures in so long is because there was no demand for it ? I feel like there should’ve at least been 1 new series figure pack in case b&m don’t get money back from this big investment

    • Bobby Davros

      June 13th, 2019 - 1:27am

If they were going to invest in brand new series figures they wouldn’t limit them solely to a non-online discount vendor.

    • booboo

      June 13th, 2019 - 7:43am

the classics in later years were co funded by Undergorund toys but they really weren’t starting to sell enough in the states, they tend to want the more geeky up to date stuff these days, thats reinforced by WHONA’s somewhat disastrous move it seems to take on the 3rd Doctor set as an exclusive and it looks like sales have been very poor (817 still in stock aster 2 years), but it sold like hot cakes here in the UK.

So the damned is here, but only in the shape of repaints tweaks and re-leases in budget sets at this time.

If all goes well i can see that B&M might be brave and invest in a couple. of new head sculpts if existing parts can be used .

we have had several “new series” sets in past years.

As for the Doctor / Daleks, well jo public don’t go into the nitty gritty like forums do, and with respect, many will have little knowledge of Big Finish, that doesn’t matter because if they look good that’s all it takes.

there maybe also be big finish fans who buy into these that would not normally buy figures.

    • Whofan44

      June 13th, 2019 - 11:50am

As someone who does not normally buy figures I can say they have my attention with Big Finish stuff and may get a sale from someone who would not normally buy

  • Whofan44

    June 12th, 2019 - 11:32pm

With the recent audio set The Lives of Captain Jack vol 2 with Jack wearing the 6th Doctors outfit on the cover would it be plausible to release that as a figure? Just put Jacks head on the 6th Doctor body? I dont normally go for figures much so not sure if that would work.

  • Judooning

    June 12th, 2019 - 10:37pm

I hope the 4th doctor 3 pack contains all monsters/villains. Rather than another 4th dr variant, especially if we’re getting another 4th dr and Tardis set.

Wasnt it said that not all the 3 packs would arrive at once this year? One reasoning for that could be that one of the 3 packs is bigger…a Dalek perhaps? It would need its own case assortment.

  • Ben Delany

    June 12th, 2019 - 6:21pm

I really don’t know why we are getting another 70’s TARDIS I mean, we already have three. Personally I’d rather see a McGann TARDIS .

    • BrunoB

      June 12th, 2019 - 7:12pm

Might be priced out of budget for the B&M Tardis as it’s a bigger prop.

Fans of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers will be able to get their hands on a heritage ‘SET’ of three popular incarnations.. The new blister-pack ‘SERIES’ will include electronic versions, inspired by the 50th anniversary episode, of the Tenth, Eleventh and War Doctor’s sonics.

Booboo, now that CO and Big Finish have done this do you think it’s possible Big Finish could get some exclusives (maybe like new heads ok existing bodies) which could be a sort of online exclusive range with limited editions?

    • booboo

      June 12th, 2019 - 4:56pm

if i’m perfectly honest i don’t think they would sell enough, repaints are one thing new heads are another

    • Tyler Prescott

      June 12th, 2019 - 8:36pm

Yeah, most people won’t buy them for being Big Finish, the majority of sales will probably be causal fans and kids. It’s only a selection of collectors who’d really buy them for being from Big Finsih.

So if they were to make BF-series figures, only that small group of collectors would be interested, and they wouldn’t sell very well

    • bryan

      June 12th, 2019 - 9:27pm

I did wonder about this. If BF did a Jenny Flint, and put it in a box with a Vastra and strax figure. I am sure it would sell very well outside of BF.

Like the Blue Sith Doctor, which was made based on a websode and later a CD called real time. Thats sold very well.

So depends what they can do with Budget, and already released Items with repaints. But I am not entirely sure BF could budget for a Jenny flint in the first place.

I`m sure a Jago and Lightfoot set or even a Benny Figure would do well, with collectors of both BF, the NA books, and her own range fans.

    • Wholords2

8th Doctor is 90s rather than 60s and 70s so it deffo won’t be that

    June 12th, 2019 - 12:16pm

So Jon Pertwee is just being airbrushed from Dr Who history then. He was the first Dr I grew up with being just 6 years of age, and I literally watched him battle the Autons, Daleks, Sea Devils, Sontarans and a lot more, terrified from behind our sofa.

    • booboo

      June 12th, 2019 - 12:21pm

      That’s total nonsense quite frankly

We had the 3rd Doctor Tardis set last year and 3rd Doctor set the year before, He has actually had 2 of the best sets.

The 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and war Doctor have never had any B&M sets with them in it yet.

They don’t do all the Doctors every year, its other Doctors turns this time

    • The Flying Shark

      June 12th, 2019 - 12:30pm

Most ridiculous comment I’ve ever read on this site!

    • prototype dalek

      June 12th, 2019 - 3:27pm

That is a bit of a stupid thing to say.

2018 and 2019 we had the 1970’s set which was half 4th Doctor and half 3rd Doctor era
2018 we had the 3rd Doctor and TARDIS set
2016 had the 3rd Doctor set with the 3rd Doctor, Jo and the Master

And this is just B&M. John Pertwee was one of the most represented in terms of classic figure sets that have been made, only second to the Tom Baker era. Can’t just focus on the one era and I don’t see any problems anyway where we’ve had a lot from 1970-74 era already.

I agree, a very silly statement indeed given we had a release not long ago. I think this set of releases is covering a lot of bases. I personally welcome the War Dr version as I haven’t got that one & am hoping sometime for a S10 longer coat & hair 12th Dr.

Troughton is My Dr & I would dearly love to see a better head sculpt of him smiling, even with his blue Fury bobble hat, but alas, I know that that won’t happen due to new sculpt cost.

Yeah, I’m gonna plump for the 4th Dr set including the Dr wearing his brown duffle coat & a tartan scarf. This is an easy modification & paint job!

Now, if is possible to shave off the professor Yana waistcoat, so the figure is left with the shirt, I’d say Deadly Assassin 4th Dr in just a shirt & his boots on his feet.

I cannot think of another 4th Dr variation & don’t think people will go for another version of what has previously been released!

To be fair, I’d go for a Season 18. It’s a very sought after figure that has only been released twice in two very difficult to find sets

Don’t know if this is what we will get, but a photo of a not-yet-done 4th doc variant was tweeted by Al from CO a couple of months back that showed a S15/mid S16 Tom (think Stones of Blood for example : white shirt, long-looped scarf in more accurate colours than previous S17 releases, no waistcoat or neckwear, dark brown long coat and tall boots) It may be something or nothing but quite a lot of speculation that if we get an actual 4th Doctor it may be that.

A ‘Terror of the Zygons’ 4th Dr could be done using the sculpt of the ‘Unearthy Child’ 1st Dr. It would still need a Baker head on top and a beret, similar to the Brigadier figure released with ‘The Claws of Axos’ set.

I’d much rather see the original fourth doctor smiley head sculpt make a return from the original classic wave one… perhaps put on a series 18 costume without the hat

This is fine. But will they be in a large quantity to actually be able to buy. I missed out on the 3rd and 4th doctor tardises and will not pay through the nose for them on eBay.

It’s my understanding this is a new “line” and not subject to ltd edition as previous ones.

4th doctor Tardis is still available in B&M

Although the Third Doctor set is a bit pricey on ebay at the moment, the Fourth Doctor set has actually calmed down in price a lot since it came out.

I am wondering if the Big Finish 8th Dr set will see the Dr in his dark blue leather jacket & white T-shirt. This will be an easy repaint job of 9th Dr Body on a night of the Dr head!

i understand it might be a bit special, hopefully Big Finish will get the image out soon.

From what I understand, the 8th Doctor will be packaged with the Dalek Interrogator Prime which is from a Time War story….in those stories, the 8th Doctor wheres the costume we saw in the TV mini episode. That said, the B&M sets dont always pair characters from the same stories so that along with the fact it states “brand new take on the 8th Doctor” tell me this will indeed be the costume we saw him in throughout the Dark Eyes, Doom Coalition and Ravenous stories.

I don’t think it’ll be a Dark Eyes version, because that’d require remoulding. None of the 8th Doctor heads are compatible with the 9th Doctor body. More likely I think, is the prison uniform he has on the cover.

Of course, I could be wrong, and it could somehow turn out to be a Dark Eyes 8th Doctor, but I don’t think it’s at all likely.
