First Big Finish B&M Dalek Set Image (Closed)

This announcement, for good reason, was bought forward by a day

The First Image from one of the new Big Finish B&M Dalek Sets will be released this Friday. We will add any updates if possible, otherwise keep pressing that F5 key on the front page!

Character Options announces new Doctor Who lines planned for B&M Stores

New Malden, London 11th June 2019

Character Options is delighted to announce a new series of exclusive Doctor Who toys that will be available later this summer from local B&M stores (UK variety retailer). Full details of the product line-up (with images) will be revealed in the coming weeks but here’s a small taster of what will be available.

Fans of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers will be able to get their hands on a heritage set of three popular incarnations.. The new blister-pack series will include electronic versions, inspired by the 50th anniversary episode, of the Tenth, Eleventh and War Doctor’s sonics.

For action figure fans,Character Options presents a set of three unique Doctor & Dalek Twin Packs, inspired by the Doctor Who audio series from Big Finish. This includes a brand new take on the Eighth Doctor, plus the Dalek Interrogator Prime, as featured in Big Finish audio book story In the Garden of Death. The two additional Doctor and Daleks sets to be released from this range will feature the Seventh and War Doctors respectively.

This year there will be not one, but two new TARDIS & Doctor sets released, each with a completely new take on both the Doctor and the blue box, inspired by adventures spanning the 1970s and 1980s.

To complete the summer line-up there are three brand new collector sets with a range of three figures in each, inspired by the Classic adventures of the Second, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.

Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options commented: “We are delighted to announce this first taster of what’s to come from our B&M stores Doctor Who toy range.  To reveal the visuals of these brand new products, we plan to do a full unveiling live, which will take place ‘unboxing style’ on Character Options’ own Youtube channel in July; details of the time and date will be announced.”

I have 3 B&M stores not too far from me and none of them stock the Doctor Who figures.

I’ve had a thought, could it be achievable to make a “Survival Master” from the original Brigadier body base? It’s quite clearly evident that Character can remove and change aesthetics of an existing figure to represent a new one – as seen with the Auton/4th Doctor/Brigadier from the last set? Compare the Brigadier figure with an image of the Master from Survival to see where I’m coming from . . .

My other guess on the Dr/Tardis sets is this (as it says based on 70’s & 80’s)

Set 1. Spearhead from Space. 3rd Dr Head on a2nd Dr body & a re modelled 1st Dr police box (flat roof added)

Set 2. Twin Dilemma 6th Dr head on 5th Dr Body
      or…
Time & The Rani 7th Dr Head on 6th Dr Body with the 80’s TARDIS in a darker blue. I can’t really see them releasing a Happiness Patrol pink TARDIS.

      June 12th, 2019 - 9:19am

it was suggested they might release the Pink Tardis in the future via B&M with some money going cancer research, not sure if that’s still on the table, or if it ever fully was.

      June 12th, 2019 - 10:23am

Yeah I can see that totally! With a repainted Cat person from the new series too.

Lol… There you go, that’s another 3 pack sorted 😉

What I would like to see this year with the sets are:

Sixth & glass Dalek (Order of the Daleks)
Seventh & Imperial Dalek (Remembrance of the Daleks)
Eighth & Dalek Time Controller (Dark Eyes)

Big finish companion sets: (Flip, Constance, Charley)
Spin off set: (jack harkness, sarah Jane, Ms Quill)
The Monsters Set: (Cyberman, Zygon, Axon)

    13th’s TARDIS
    6’ths TARDIS

    Thoughts on this BooBoo???

Remember they can only do repaints and the off mix-and-match for B&M, no new sculpts possible for the budget. So creative workarounds to get us new variants is very possible. Completely newly sculpted characters are not, alas.

    • booboo

      June 12th, 2019 - 8:21am

I would love that glass Dalek but sadly i think its far to difficult to replicate, the Daleks in these sets will be repaints (but very nice ones i gather) from existing models.

    • Dan Fellows

      June 12th, 2019 - 8:56am

Well, I’ve already worked out one set. They say that there will be ‘three brand new collector sets with a range of three figures in each, inspired by the Classic adventures of the Second, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.’ so that’s 4 Drs in 3 pack of 3 sets. This means that one of the sets will be based on the TWO DRs. So I’m guessing a repainted/modelled Sontaran, or a Peri… if they previously released the latter two

  • Daz

    June 11th, 2019 - 10:23pm

The only Tardis I really want right now is the 13th Doctors Tardis as I have all the others, but a repaint of the 7th Doctors Tardis for 5 or 6 would be most welcome.
These are also good for people who missed them the first time around and don’t want to over pay on eBay.
I wish CO would do more for the current series though (for sale in ALL shops like FP ect), once upon a time (lord) they made figures for almost anything new on screen even a figure of the faceless old lady and Victor Meldrew in a Doctor’s coat but now we get almost no new figures…I want a Pting!

13’s TARDIS is out next year.

    • Geeksville

      June 12th, 2019 - 5:31am

I would expect the current series stuff to come out in time for the new series (Maybe for Christmas)

I am actually surprised by the complete lack of either 11 or 10 related figures (I know the sonics are coming)

This tells me that they are noticing the preference for classic characters, and if these latest sets succeed, it could lead to even more, and maybe begin to fill in the holes in our shelves

    • booboo

      June 12th, 2019 - 7:46am

to be honest there is little appetite on the high street for Doctor Who stuff right now ( and not just CO)

many planned items have been cancelled / dropped because of lack of interest as there is no show this year.

B&M sets only exist because the figure development cost to a certain extent have been covered by previous releases

this allows for repaints and re-releases but on a very tight budget, B&M will want a very good return from their investment in these.

That being said if successful they may be tempted to invest in one or two brands new figures down the line, who knows

I hope the 3 packs have abit more monster representation this time around (doctors and companions are awesome, but they’re abit boring after the third or fourth rerelease) like last year, from 9 figures, only one, just one was a monster, even then, it was just an auton, which is (visually) pretty boring, you have to admit… I want Sontarans, Cybermen, Zygons and (though I’m not sure what set, as theres no third doctor set mentioned) sea devils!

    • Dan Fellows

      June 12th, 2019 - 10:28am

Here’s hoping that the 4th Dr set is with a Zygon. If so, I wonder if The Dr will have a tartan scarf?

  • Anonymous

    June 11th, 2019 - 7:39pm

Pretty ballsy of them to go pretty much entirely classic who stuff. I thought it was really only new-who, specifically Tennant/Smith related stuff that sold well to general audiences?

Not that I’m complaining, just not sure how they made these viable…

    • booboo

      June 11th, 2019 - 7:54pm

even before today just look at whats been announced recently

Evil of the Daleks LP ( + other “classic” Lp’s Master Plan etc )
The faceless ones DVD / bluray
Season 10 Box set (and soon season 23)

      All “classic”

Anything series 1-11 is on a back burner right now it seems.

    • Anonymous

      June 11th, 2019 - 7:59pm

Yes, but I mean more specifically in terms of toys, I’m just not sure how viable B&M is to single-handedly support a collectors range. Still awesome news, just wish it was available online, so atleast less actual fans would have to get conned out of their money due to the e-bay sub-species. Still planning to get what I can though…

    • booboo

      June 11th, 2019 - 8:27pm

I think think now that they have the new logo on the merch kids and new fans are more likely to buy this stuff because they are more likely to notice it with the new logo.

    • Ollie

      June 11th, 2019 - 9:37pm

I can’t think why you’d want New Who figures when Series 1-6 figures are probably the easiest to get hold of. eBay, car boot sales, Facebook marketplace etc. You can get most of the figures really cheap on there with a few exceptions.

    • Bobby Davros

    • SJF

      Repaints and rereleases.

There may be a slight tweak to something like a shirt piece, or one head on another body like with last year’s Sets, but otherwise don’t expect anything more than rereleases and repaints.

Brilliant news – but not looking forward to the B&M stress. Travelling miles to find no stock despite calling ahead. Happy to pay someone to do all the Donkey work for me….please.

Beggars can’t be choosers though, proper shops must no longer be interested in DW merch these days so this is better than nothing – even though I always end up have to resort to Ebay. I better start saving now.

Glad for the few that live close to a B&M store though – happy days for you guys!

      i agree

    • booboo

      June 11th, 2019 - 6:02pm

you have them in the other sets

the fact is people have been asking for for figures associated with Big Finish stories for a very long time, and this keeps that section of fandom happy.

Releases cant revolve around everyone’s personal expectations

if they are not for you just move on

    • Anonymous

      June 11th, 2019 - 10:47pm

Hi I am a doctor who fan I am 13 years old.
      I have been since 2013.
I save up my pocket money for these sets and I think I am entitled to an opinion on what’s in them, I am not asking that character should cater there sets entirely to me and I agree that alot of people have been asking for big finish sets but not me so I am happy for the people who are getting the sets they want! I am just saying that people have different opinions and everyone is entitled to their own which is why I find it ridiculous when people compare a difference of opinion to people Les fortunate to us in an other country on a doctor who website!
I hope that makes some sort of sense.
So please booboo I ask that you keep my comment up as I am just trying to make a valid point.

    • booboo

      June 12th, 2019 - 8:29am

I understand that, companies have to cater for all needs

This year i believe CO have gone out of their way to produce stuff people have been asking for with a range of items that has something in it for everyone.

    • Demdike@CultLabs

      June 12th, 2019 - 10:19am

It’s a Doctor and a Dalek in a set. I’m not sure how people can call foul on something they haven’t seen yet regarding these BF Daleks.

Personally i think they’ll be great.

  • Anonymous

    June 11th, 2019 - 5:28pm

I’ve got a hunch that one of the other Big Finish Doctor/Dalek sets will include the Dalek Time Controller (potentially the War Doctor one), and I also think that there are two possibilities for the Sixth/Seventh Doctor 3-pack:

    1) A “Time and the Rani” figure set (with a regenerated 7th Doctor, Mel Bush and the Rani – probably not likely)

    2) A 1980s set, similar to last year’s 1970s set, which’ll probably have a Doctor figure (hopefully 7th, as we haven’t had many figure sets with the 7th Doctor), a companion (Either Mel or Ace) and a villain (a Cyberman perhaps)

I hope in the 3-figure packs we get some brand new figures. For example, with the 4th Doctor, we get both eldrads, and perhaps a loose hand.

    • Gareth Pugh

      June 11th, 2019 - 4:51pm

Sorry Andrew but as Character have said before – and they have repeated it again on another forum today – for B&M it can only ever be clever repaints of existing figures and the occasional tweak to an old mould. They said for a budget retailer, the financial case just isn’t there to do new sculpts and totally new figures.

Surprised they didn’t go with a 12th doctor and a legacy dalek from the magicians apprentice, like eaglemoss did due to the lack of 12th doctor era figures

Heard Peter Capaldi wasn’t too keen on his likeness used or had disagreements with the BBC Marketing so they stopped bringing out 12th. It’s sad cause I love 12th. Also disappointed with the Clara Oswald 5,5 that was released. It was just a repainted Oswin figure so I hope Character Options would consider doing a proper Clara Oswald in an outfit she actually wore.

Maria, I’m not sure if that’s the case, Eaglemoss released their second 12th Doctor figurine last week (as part of a Companion Collection twin pack – it’s the hoodie version from Smile). I did read rumours of the reverse, that the marketing part of what was BBC Worldwide had made the point to BBC Drama (both are now part of BBC Studios) that an older, ‘gruff great uncle’ style Doctor was a difficult sell to potential licensees who were doubtful this incarnation would appeal on merch (lunchboxes, backpacks etc etc) to the general public/parents etc.

I think this all stems from something Big Chief Said some time ago

Any clarification to be had on the grammar of the statement regarding the three packs – is that a set for 2, a set for 4 and then 6 & 7 sharing a set?

its definitely 3 sets with 3 figures in each set

It confusing because it mentions 4 eras but two are in the same set ( and its not necessarily a Doctor, just something from their era)

Some fans have been speculating it could be a ‘2nd and 6th’ combo in one of the three packs.

Is the sonic screwdrivers in a Three Pack?

If so they could do another

    The Non Doctor Sonics

    Sonic Lipstick
    Master Laser Screwdriver
    Sonic Pen

Oooo lovely! I’m certainly going to pick up another War Doctor sonic as my one has had some paint rub off over time! + I wonder if this 10th Doctor Sonic Re Release will have a button on the slider yet lol

The figure packs i can hold out on as these have proved more attainable in the past and will hang for the Big Finish Versions as they may be tweaked to a better standard. The TARDIS sets always seem a problem to get hold of and may involve ringing certain stores who have managed to acquire a few, on a daily basis. Its embarrassing calling in this way but would seem the only way would be to get them to put one each aside, as soon as i know they are out there..

It’s annoying that the Tardis sets quickly disappear from the shelves, then turn up online for double or treble the original price. I ended up buying the Pertwee with Tardis set online for double the price because I couldn’t find it in any B&M I visited.

I didn,t even get the Pertwee TARDIS set on the proviso if it wasn,t available in stock i wouldn,t bother. I refuse to pay over the odds for anything. If i saw a price drop on one online i maybe would consider but thats unlikely, and once the momentums faded, i feel its not the end of the world. The thrill is in the chase for me but then again once you do get what you want, its a case of, for me anyway, ‘Yes, i,ve got one, very nice it is. Put it with the rest. Now whats next? Its great fun, but lifes too short to get angst ridden over one item i didn,t get.
