Funko is proud to announce a historic partnership with PLAYMOBIL, one of the most cherished names in collectibles history.

Funko – the largest stylized vinyl collectibles company in the world – and PLAYMOBIL are collaborating to pair the classic articulated, 6-inch ABS figures with exciting pop culture and entertainment licenses for a collector-focused line.

As PLAYMOBIL’s first official licensee, Funko will have the opportunity to bring new and beloved characters to PLAYMOBIL’s nostalgic frame.

“We’re honored and thrilled to create the first ever cross-license with PLAYMOBIL and bring their unique style to the hip and trendy pop culture licenses Funko is known for,” said Funko CEO Brian Mariotti. “It’s an amazing opportunity, and we know fans of both styles are going to love these figures.”

Funko’s first wave of PLAYMOBIL 6 inch, 200% figures will include characters from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and BBC’s Sherlock and Doctor Who, with many more forthcoming. Figures will retail for $14.99 and be available in stores summer 2016.

I’m not a fan of Funko’s Pop! range, so the reveal that this is another cartoon/abstract range with 2D featuring is a bit disappointing. If they produce more figures than just 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 I might be tempted – it’d be interesting to see a Playmobil version of 6. And I might get the Sherlock ones because it may be the only Sherlock/Watson pairing I can ever afford in action figure form.

Yeah, it is a bit steep! If that’s the price for the US, that’s approx £11 in the UK if not more?

If they come in packs of two I’ll probably shell out. Doubt it otherwise. Way too expensive!

Not that there’s anything wrong with collecting it, that’s just not why I used to get it

Absolutely terrible! I look forward to collecting each & every one. At 6″ they are fairly big. I’m wondering what sort of packaging they will come in? I’m also wondering if they will get distributed in the UK properly?

I’d say we’ll get more information in February with the New York toy fair. Until then I just hope that they don’t release too many figures and they won’t use plastic joints on them. I’m interested in what they mean by “classic… With a twist”

I read “six inch articulated figures” and got all excited, then read “Funko twist” and died a little inside as that means they’re gonna be yet more super deformed vinyls or something.

I don’t have a huge problem with super deformed vinyls (as you can tell by my icon) but there is such thing as too much

      January 2nd, 2016 - 4:03am

I feel that it works for pops because of their stylised proportions- proportions that would not suit articulation.

This could be great or it could be awful. Funko have had a lot of problems with their Legacy range of figures, particularly with breakages due to the clear plastic used in the limb joints, and it hurt the line badly. I loved the Rocketeer figure, but lost interest in the GoT and Firefly offerings quickly after bad experiences with frozen joints and snapped arms and legs.

Maybe this is an attempt to relaunch their 6 inch figure output with the benefit of some new licences. As long as they don’t have have the above problems, oversized heads or fabric outfis that look three sizes too big, I’ll give ’em a go. Apart from DW and Sherlock, I’m interested in the Supernatural range as I think this’ll be the first time anyone’s produced articulated figures based on the show. Fingers crossed…

I think (As has been pointed out) that Funko don’t have a License for Action Figures, but get around that by getting a License for Retro Figures instead. I expect their Doctor Who line to fit in with the current Retro Range they run with badly painted, clunky plastic with minor articulation in 1970/1980’s Cardboard Backed Plastic Blister Packs. I look forward to what they come up with? I was a big fan of the Retro Bif Bang Pow! Doctor Who range now sadly defunct.

Funko does have some licences for proper action figures, for example I think they have Game of thrones.
The ReAction figures are 3.75inch and only 5 poa so don’t really fit the description here. Although it would be fun to see the Doctors in that line since it meant to imitate the 70’s/80’s Kenner toys so DW certainly fits that era.
