You’ve never heard of the “ugly sweater” thing, as in a jumper you get for Christmas which has a pattern on it, usually hand-knitted? Well, the design of the mug is of a Doctor Who-themed “ugly sweater”. The mug itself isn’t ugly.

At least that it what I have deduced.
