Dr Who Figurine Collection Special 15 Wirrn

From the most excellent sci-fi TV series in the world comes this Special Edition in the Doctor Who Figurine Collection: The Wirrn!

Landing the TARDIS in the far future, the Doctor and his friends, Sarah and Harry, arrive on a space station high above Earth where hundreds of people are asleep in cryogenic suspension. They’ve been sleeping for centuries, and the station has been boarded by something alien and hungry – the Wirrn!

The Doctor must try to defeat the alien menace before the last of humanity ends up as dinner! From the mind of writer Robert Holmes, the Wirrn were made by legendary monster-maker John Friedlander, who built the giant alien insect costumes from bamboo, fibreglass and latex.

You can find out everything that went into the creation of this substantial strange insect in our fact-packed special issue

Standing at 14.2 cm tall, we have recreated the Wirrn to specific standards, and our figurine is another essential addition to the ever-growing collection.

Picked mine up from the local newsagent (where its reserved for me each fortnight) and was blown away by two things. Firstly, it was unbroken and in one piece! (astounding) and Secondly, it is one of the best sculpts to date. Well done Eaglemoss, you are finally getting it right!

My Wirrn arrived today, the figurine is amazing, fantasic sculpt with excellent paintwork, the legs feel like they are made of metal and pretty strong.

    Its my favourite special 😀

This may be a daft question and possibly one answered before but why hasn’t a figurine of Bok never been released ?

I’m glad they did the Wirrn. so far they seem to be the most colourful Special figurines. I hope the upcoming specials will include Kroll, The Krynoid, the Krotons, Drathro the L3 robot, the Fendahl, the Mandrel, The Great One, The Silurian’s Myrka, The Vespiform, The Empress of the Racnoss, the Krillitane, The Lazarus Monster, the Pyrovile, Solomon’s Robo-oidz, The weeping angel statue of liberty and if possible The Purple Paradigm Dalek Emperor.

What a lot of Series 10 figurines there are. Some good ones there. I’m guessing the Kroton and Mandrel are between 127 and 130.

    • THE ERGON

      December 28th, 2017 - 7:47pm

These are great though why have they clumped so many 12th doctor figurines in there? Wouldn,t it have been better to spread them out. Or is this due to the figurine popular poll?

    • Anonymous

      December 28th, 2017 - 7:53pm

Note that they aren’t just Twelfth Doctor figures, they are all from the latest series. The figures will have been designed as the episodes went out and clogged up the release schedule.

    • THE ERGON

      December 28th, 2017 - 8:16pm

white robot aside of course. Which is a must. adore ‘The Mind robber. Theres room for those clockwork soldiers i hope.

    • The Werewolf

      December 28th, 2017 - 9:15pm

They did that with Series 8 as well, and probably will with Series 11.

    • The Werewolf

      December 28th, 2017 - 9:53pm

The Clockwork Soldiers won’t be high up on the plans. With the exception of Remembrance of the Daleks which will have 4 figurines by next year, they tend not to repeat.

    • Gareth Pugh

      December 28th, 2017 - 11:15pm

If I were a betting man, I’d speculate they might base the Missy issue around Series 8/Dark Water & Death in Heaven rather than her Series 9 and 10 appearances – there’s not much else to hang your hat on from those 2 episodes (unless they do the ‘sitting in Dark Water tanks cyber-skeletons’ or Cyber Danny, gawd forbid), whereas we’ve had Colony Sarff for Magician’s Apprentice/Witch’s Familiar and will have had Cyber patients and fully-formed Mondasian Cybermen from World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls.

    • THE ERGON

      December 29th, 2017 - 1:14am

I was thinking the very same thing about missy earlier in mary poppins garb and umbrella.

    • The Werewolf

      January 19th, 2018 - 8:55pm

The order has now changed. It is now:
      120 First Doctor
      121 The Monks
      122 Imperial Dalek
      123 Eliza
      124 White Robots
      125 Silurian (1983)
      126 Missy
      127 Mondasian Cybermen

Mostly the same but 80s Silurian has pushed the Mondasian Cyberman back.

Other (issue-number-not-yet-announced) figurines that they have recently either said or heavily hinted at, likely for 2018 include:
      – a Kroton
      – a White Robot (from The Mind Robber)
      – a Mandrel
      – Missy
      – 13th Doctor (EM’s Ben tweeted on Christmas Day that we’d see her issue inside of 2018)

He’s also said not so long ago that if they got extended beyond 120 issues – which they now have – they’d have a go at Koquillion (First Doctor foe).

Also Wirrn Special coming end of January and the next premium subs ‘Rare Dalek’ is the metallic Blue New Paradigm ‘Strategist’ Dalek seen in ‘Asylum’, sent out with issues 120/121 around Easter.

    • THE ERGON

      December 24th, 2017 - 3:15pm

The size could be an issue for a few as with aggedor which really should have been a smaller scale figurine in my view. But hey its a wirrn. The auton dummy with Daffodil for sure but also something from season 16 anytime soon.

    • Gareth Pugh

      December 27th, 2017 - 12:54pm

Booboo, the Wirrn is (according to the e-mail shot of Dec 23rd) 140mm high (whether that includes it’s hexagonal base or not, it doesn’t say). Which I reckon (at nearly 6″ tall) would put it reasonably in scale with the 5″ CO Tom Baker figures, give or take?

    • booboo

      December 27th, 2017 - 1:10pm

      that’s fairly close

  • THE ERGON

    December 24th, 2017 - 2:50pm

Yes but only recently. It was only when i queried this on this site after the issue extension that i realised you could still do this. However i had issues with the yeti figurines because the first 2 they sent out were damaged in the same place. No damage or broken pieces inside the boxes. Customer services said they had issues from other customers with same item. They had someone properly inspect the 3rd item before sent and hence the airbags were in the box for this particular reorder. Why are the items loose anyway like the retail stuff and not bagged?

Yes i am now a subscriber but only recently so thanks to you fellas explaining the availability of late subscriptions. I wasn,t aware they took subscribers so late on. I only queried this when they extended the issue numbers. I was able to get the yeti and the first item was damaged. The next reorder was the same but had airbags inside. Pieces hadn,t broken off inside or in transit. The damage was in the ame place on both items. 3rd time around after i explained this to customer services, they had someone properly inspect before being sent out. He said they had other complaints regarding this particular item.

Looks great and a welcome addition after the equally fantastic WAR MACHINE. However looks like it will break/get damaged easily. I got a AGGEDOR delivered without a horn (not broken, just missing altogether and not loose in the packaging either) so I have concerns about getting an undamaged/complete one…..

Is Neil corry slyly keeping an eye on the Robert Harrop Releases? I only say this as he subtly makes references to Nightmare on Eden. Now aren,t Harrop planning a Mandrell release?. If so it seems a coincidence hes now planning an Eaglemoss release. Nothing wrong with competition i say and they do get the releases we want more urgently but i have to say when it comes to bigger and better monsters Harrop deliver more Quality in spades. Eaglemoss do a fine job but Harrop edge it. Maybe they should consider bigger versions.

Eaglemoss and Harrop are aiming at different markets. That said it isn’t the first time, the Tetrap was also similar timing and Alpha Centauri, but it could be a case of great minds thinking alike.

    • Paulus

      January 17th, 2018 - 1:59pm

I agree, but would say Harrops are vastly better. I don’t feel there is enough quality in the Eaglemoss figures, even when size is taken into account, and the major reason I decided not to buy was the poor customer service they provide, which seems to be even worse than ever.

perhaps its more down to the way the local delivery people handle them as it seems to be the same people all the time that get damaged ones multiple times.

I can,t see how its the delivery people as these items are packed solid with airbags and the like. Its there end thats the fault. The items aren,t broken internally. They are factory damaged which means they are sent out without regards to the customer. They should be checked beforehand. yours are definitely packed / distributed by a different company to me then as mine never contain any packaging my magazines and figures are always just loose in the box

sounds like whoever is doing yours aren’t checking the figurines for damage before packing them.

There was defo a Quality issues with the Yeti. Ive never had a problem up until then but it took 3 attempts to get a undamaged Yeti plus so many others have mentioned it. I suspect we’ll see the same with this. To be fair eaglemoss didnt hesitate sending out replacement Yetis – but maybe thats becuase they new there were quality issues. Their packing is minimal so its no wonder the more delicate figures get damaged.
