I’d like to see more characters from the Hartnell era. So far, aside from Daleks, we’ve only seen a Cyberman, a Voord, a Monoid, a Mechanoid and a Sensorite. It’d be nice to see something from each story or most stories.

Suggestions – Marco Polo, Tlotoxl, First Doctor in French sash, Koquillion, Nero, Menoptera, Meddling Monk, Movellan, Toymaker, Doc Holliday, War Machine.

A few of your choices could get a look in with the extension and companions would seem most likely but i wouldn,t hold your breath with historical figures.

    For Series 10, I think they’ll have:
    The Ghost
    Heather
    Emojibot
    Eliza
    Spacesuit Zombie
    Monk
    Cardinal Angelo
    The Giant Monk
    Iraxxa
    The Eater Of Light
    Mondas Patient
    The Master (Simm)
    Jodie Whittaker

And maybe Lord Sutcliffe, the Landlord, Nardole or Bill

Too many. Besides the Cyber Patient, they are likely to do the Emojibot, Monk, Iraxxa and maybe a Spacesuit Zombie and/or an Eater of Light. Missy could be from this series too.
They won’t do another Simm Master, or any of the one-off human characters.

I know – there’s a few I’d really like from the Key To Time season – the Pirate Captain and Vivian Fay/in Cailleach cloak and mask would be great. Slighty ‘deeper cuts’ could be Ranquin (Swampie leader) and The Shadow.

There is probably enough scope to stretch to a spaceships range. Cannot equate how many issues this would be, but off the cuff, The Stones of Blood, Nightmare of Eden, The Horns of Nimon, Full Circle, Delta and the Bannermen, City of Death, The Space Pirates, The Ambassadors of Death, The Claws of Axos, Shada, The Pirate Planet and so on all have space vehicles, and that is before one gets to the new series, where most stories have something.

A series might just stretch to 80 issues…

Oh wow. 180 now? There are two sides to this coin however. As nice as it is that we are getting loads more figurines, I’m slightly concerned they’re going to start running out of interesting ones, and start doing figurines that not many people would be too keen on getting, or ones that other companies have released multiple times.

Two sides of the coin for me is waiting for packages. The main releases are great. The specials seem to be a problem.
Not sure I like them spinning off into non-subscriber releases. These create a nightmare to get ahold of.

I’d love a DW comics partwork in the mould of the current Star Trek one. Anybody think this’ll happen? Would there be any problems regarding rights or availability of material?

By availability of material, I mean the older stuff featuring the first three Doctors. Are they destroyed or safely archived somewhere?

    • Gareth Pugh

      September 13th, 2017 - 4:47pm

Hachette (publishers of The Doctor Who Complete History partwork) recently sent out a survey to subscribers of that and what you describe was one of the 5 ideas they were asking for feedback on…

Panini (DWM) own the rights and artwork assets to the 1960s and 1970s pre-marvel stuff. They said it will need a lot of clean-up and reformatting work to get the early stuff to work in a book format (the original comics had artwork running into the fold which would provide a challenge to a spined book) but they said it is not impossible. They reprinted some first 3 doctors stuff in DWMs short-lived 1990s sister title ‘Doctor Who Classic Comics’. I’m fairly hopeful.

    • The Monitor

      September 13th, 2017 - 5:02pm

If you mean TV comic, TV action, then great idea. I have a lot but not all, and TV comics or TV actions that did not have a Doctor Who cover, I just kept the Doctor Who parts, and I expect my collection is far from complete.

Marvel, IDW or Titan, a bad idea I think. There are so many versions available, that it would be a cash-in. Also the books tend to be huge. I have some of the Hachette Warhammer 40k ones, and I also have the tiny tiny paperback versions which often contain more material. Think of the space and weight. Yes it is nice to start with, but when you have been collecting for over 32 years, you need so much space.

I have everything Marvel have ever done in every format. Ditto IDW. Titan everything bar 140 of the 160 variants of the issues 1s etc and the US hardbacks. When BookDepository sent me a really bad condition US hardback, it did me a favour and stopped me collecting those superfluous editions.

    • Doctor Mysterio

      September 13th, 2017 - 10:35pm

Hachette also suggested a run of Target reprints in that survey. If they are in hardback I’d be up for that.

    • Peter

      September 14th, 2017 - 3:12pm

Yeah, I filled in that survey. They were discussing a Big Finish partwork, too. I’d love a comics collection. Preferably it’d include everything from the Hartnell strips to DWM to IDW to Titan.

      September 16th, 2017 - 11:38pm

When you say a Big Finish partwork… what exactly do you mean?

    • Gareth Pugh

      September 17th, 2017 - 11:51am

Anonymous, the idea of the Big Finish partwork was basically a double CD with each issue plus a behind the scenes mag about the making of the story, how it fits into/adds to wider Who mythology etc.
