Edge Sculpture – Cyberman Bust Sculpted by Matt Buckley

Available to order from www.robertharrop.com

The grand unveiling video by Luke of our own Edge Sculpture Cyberman Bust by Matt Buckley. The size, quality and appearance of this unique piece of merchandise cannot fail to impress..

Edge Sculpture is a contemporary range of pieces with the intent to be both striking and unique and raging with life. Up until now the fierceness of the carnivore, the silent power of the ape and the striking beauty of a goddess has provided the brief for this fine art fine series of work, but from late 2014 I was incredibly fortunate to gain the trust of the BBC and was given the permission to begin sculpting a Cyberman Bust.

edge4

The only caveat from the BBC was that the bust was one of the latest variants of the Cybermen as initially introduced in the episode ‘A Nightmare in Silver’, which made perfect sense because at this particular time they had already began the series 8 World Tour whilst I was building the armature and throwing on the clay.

It really did not take long for me to get the shape of the piece working and it after a couple of comedy ‘selfies’ to demonstrate the scale of the piece, I nailed my feet to the floor for a couple of weeks until I felt the Cyberman had come to life and he had been sculpted to virtual completion.

edge3

Even though this is a very stylised piece of work the intention was that you could still appreciate which variant it was, so I even made sure that the heavily chiselled handles still contained the correct number of grooves and slats of the superbly designed actual cyborg.

edge2

I have to mention that you really do get a firm sense of how well something is designed when you are constantly observing images and certainly with the latest Cyberman Variant there are so many mathematically beautiful lines that have been so carefully balanced that when they shroud such an emotionally desolate and soulless being it becomes even more eerie in its form.

This now completed piece has been cased, moulded, cast and painted. He is larger than life and officially licensed by the BBC.

Approx size: Height: 480mm, Length: 320mm, Depth: 230mm

    Ooh, lovely concept!

Now, had it been of the RTD Cyberman design, it would have been irresistable. Fortunately for my wallet, it’s the Moffat design!

I think it does represent good value for money though, it’s 1:1 scale don’t forget…, most 1:1 scale busts I look at buying tend to be far more than this costs.

Excellent….I’d have to have the Tomb Controller and possibly even the Tenth Planet cyberman which i know is of interest to Matt…lack of space prevents getting all of them me unfortunately… Hoping that Harrops commence a few classic space craft and busts akin to their Anderson items.

If youre a fan of Space 1999 by the way and dont have the Harrops eagle stocks running low and its a beauty.

This would easily fit into the show itself as a prop. I bet if the writers ever run out of ideas, they can look at this and write a whole story written round it like using it as a stimulus.
