Doctor Who Worlds in Time Launch / Trailer

BBC Worldwide Transports Doctor Who: Worlds in Time Into Commercial Launch

Casual Multiplayer Online Game Proves It’s “Bigger on the Inside”

BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Games today announced the official launch of Doctor Who: Worlds in Time (www.doctorwhowit.com), the first-ever browser-based, free-to-play multiplayer online game based on the popular television series. Created in partnership with Three Rings, the award-winning developer of persistent online worlds Puzzle Pirates and Spiral Knights, the game transports fans and gamers alike on a journey throughout the boundless Doctor Who universe.

Doctor Who: Worlds in Time offers something for everyone, including an intriguing narrative for sci-fi followers and serious gamers and stimulating micro-missions for game enthusiasts looking for a quick pick-up-and-play game. After meeting the Doctor in the iconic TARDIS, players travel to various immersive worlds (including Ember, Mars and New New York) and work together to defend civilization against infamous villains (including the Autons, Clockwork Robots and Zygons) bent on creating chaos and destruction in the universe. Since the open preview launch in December 2011, the BBC and Three Rings have worked to make more Doctor Who environments available, as well as introduce additional virtual items and create deeply engaging communal features.

“Worlds in Time offers players a multitude of elements and opportunities to socialize,” said Robert Nashak, Executive Vice President, BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Games. “From introducing beloved characters and progressive storylines to presenting additional guild play, our goal is to become the largest Doctor Who community ever assembled, while also being an enjoyable experience for all users.”

While Doctor Who: Worlds in Time is free-to-play, players can enrich their gameplay and hasten their progress through the purchase of Chronons, which help them to customize their avatars, complete mini-games, build new contraptions and more.

“I have been a fan of Doctor Who since I was a child, so developing this game with BBC Worldwide is a dream come true,” said Daniel James, CEO of Three Rings Design, Inc. “Like the Doctor, we have our own mission, to provide Doctor Who fans an experience matched only by the wondrous TV series, and casual gamers a warm opportunity to discover the marvelous world for themselves. It’s exciting to see the Doctor Who universe come to life in such a unique way.”

I’m planning to create an account, but i have questions.
1: Is it like a facebook game, where you have to go on to every day or “your fish will die”.
2: Can you create your own character?
These maybe small little questions, but i’m goin to do it on the holidays when i have a lot of free time.

You have to be over 16, but if you have parents/guradians permission and all that grown up-y stuff then you can get on. Or, like some others are doing (I think), you could just pretend you’re a teeny tiny bit older.

    • Boodleoo

      March 14th, 2012 - 7:53am

It’s quite good booboo jr and they mix in some classic stuff into it e.g. theres the book of horus you can have for your house. they also tell some good stories, I’m freeing the ood at the moment on new earth.

      March 14th, 2012 - 7:55am

a lot of the good stuff you have to pay for though.

      March 14th, 2012 - 10:11am

I haven’t tried it yet… I’m going to set up an account in a couple of weeks when I’ll have some spare time.

The Australian DVD/Blu-ray editions of The Doctor, the Witch and the Wardrobe have a free item for this game, so I’ll have to see what that’s all about.

As far as I can tell, it’s a free to play (F2P) game – meaning you don’t *have* to pay anything, but if you want any bonus items etc, you have to buy them (for actual money) from their store.

It won’t let me start a mission or anything else. I can move around, and have the correct Chronons, but it says an unexpected problem on the server is blocking it! Help!

To be honest, it isn’t that good. It’s very hard to navigate around, and you cannot play it with a laptop touchpad, you need a mouse with a scroll button.

I love the idea, and the quality of the animation is quite good. However, sometimes the controls are slightly frustrating. For example, while I am using my gadget on a conversation, all of the other meters that help me keep track of the gameplay vanish. For example, if I was talking, I could not see the progress of anyother minigame nor even the progress of the current mingame.

This is only a recent update/change. Before, it was not like this.

Other than that, the interventions range from average to fairly good to amazing.
