It looks good 😀 but I think they should of released 2 figure with this set one of the body’s being his Christmas outfit and the other body being his series 7B outfit and have the 2 old heads,a normal head and 12s head but that’s asking to much. BooBoo why have they not released clara in 5inch? 🙁

I know. It’s the same with LEGO as well. A small set about 8 years ago would be £4.99, whereas now it’s about £10.99.

I just worked out the total cost of the item, shipping and import/tax to get it to the uk from popcultcha. It came to £26. So the saving isn’t that much really.

Shame really, it looks like what ever country you order it from your getting ripped off

    • George

      July 29th, 2014 - 12:11pm

£4 off (£7 off their claimed RRP) isn’t a small saving, and it’s good to buy from other countries; if they see people are actually preferring to buy from retailers online and pay import charges because that’s cheaper than buying it from the UK retailer, they might wise up and lower their prices.

I’ll be buying online for the principle of not getting ripped off even if it does come to the same cost for the principle; at least the money goes towards actual services when bought overseas instead of just feeding FPi’s greed.

  • George

    July 28th, 2014 - 12:19pm

I can’t understand the price for this set… £33 as a main price? Really? I looked into buying a few sets online and found that maybe if I were just buying one it wouldn’t be much difference, but buying a lot in bulk as FPi would have done comes out way cheaper. While I understand that they need to make a profit, they can buy it from a retailer with the cost per item (taking into account postage and import costs) being about £20.

we are all a bit puzzled on this one

      it does seem very unfair

    • George

      July 28th, 2014 - 12:22pm

Considering that they almost certainly have wholesale prices to pay to the distributor rather than the regular retail price to a fellow retailer, I would be surprised if they were paying any more than £15 per item, probably less.

I once tried to buy a few of an item because friends wanted some as well so we combined our order, and (despite them taking my money) they rejected my order on the basis that they don’t want to risk people having lots of stock for themselves to sell on at an inflated price simply due to rarity.

    • booboo

      July 28th, 2014 - 12:27pm

well lots of people have asked and no one has got reasonable reply

as its an UT item presumably they set the RRP but they seem to have no Interest in their products any more

they did nothing at sdcc that i can see.

    • George

      July 28th, 2014 - 12:25pm

Yet they then make sure they have a monopoly on the item by making it exclusive to FPi and charge ridiculous prices just because most people don’t have any cheaper alternative, taking advantage of being the only seller on the market. Seems they don’t like anyone else doing it, but are perfectly fine with it if it’s their own pockets they’re filling.

Hypocrites and dodgy sellers, I’ll get mine from America since it’ll work out at the same price even if I just buy the one, it’s good to get the message across to FPi that hypocrisy doesn’t pay.

    • booboo

      July 28th, 2014 - 12:28pm

to be fair its never been an issue up until this set

    • George

      July 28th, 2014 - 12:34pm

Seems very hypocritical of them to suddenly take on the stance of the very people they actively try to avoid selling to though, they disagree with their ethics then take the very same ethics on themselves to an extreme level. I can’t see how they can justify this price after everything they’ve preached so far.

Too early to tell yet I s’pose, but it looks like Capaldi is kinda looking up and to the side. I’ve ordered this set, and my thoughts are: I hope this is isn’t the case and he’s staring straight, and I LOVE the old Smith head. I was never a huge fan of 11, but I thought senile 2000+ year old 11 was cool. Much like getting 8’s head with war, I don’t even care that it’s not “technically” the correct outfit, I’m just stoked we’re getting it.

This whole thing seems to be one great big screw up to me.
First, CO change their figure scale, then they release the War Doctor in Australia before UK and now they’re messing around with the price for this set. £30 for it in the UK but only $30 in Australia?

not Character they only make these they are not the distributor

    • TARDISGuy

      July 22nd, 2014 - 12:24pm

Ahh, true! I should have remembered the distribution issues are not down to Character Options. But their decision to change scales still seems strange to me.

That comment below was posted in the wrong conversation by accident 😳

    • booboo

      July 22nd, 2014 - 12:29pm

well how about this from a business point a view

Many big retailers didn’t want 5″ any more and the lack of big orders from those that did severely curtailed future development (hence all the variants that everyone moaned about).

They did indicate they might be interested in a smaller cheaper toy line

Character developed – retails bought and the line continues

makes perfect business sense to me

the bottom line is what we think is not important, what retailers will buy and put on the shelves is

    • TARDISGuy

      July 22nd, 2014 - 12:35pm

Fair point and I imagine the reason behind the change was something along those lines. I’m not saying there wasn’t a reason, I guess I’m just a bit disappointed as I, like many others, was a big fan of the 5 inch line.
Oh well! At least the classics continue in that scale and we still have this set, however much it turns out to cost…

    • George

      July 24th, 2014 - 9:53am

The 5 inch line was doing fine until the quality dropped. When your first wave has Idris, second wave has Idris with a couple of cubes, and your third wave has Idris with a few more of the same cubes, it’s not surprising that less people will buy each time. From what I recall, the ones at the end of the regular 5 inch releases saw THREE re-releases with tiny differences, all released as a new wave each.

They shouldn’t have complained about the scale, the scale was never the problem, it was that they simply weren’t making new figures.

    • booboo

      July 24th, 2014 - 10:31am

People dont seen to have any understanding of what actually happened

they didn’t make new figures because they didn’t have enough orders for new investment but had to supply retailers that did order something with the the number of waves they requested – hence all the variants

The 5″ line was already dead before the quality dropped as you put it

    • George

      July 24th, 2014 - 9:55am

(Note the success of the War Doctor simply for being a good 5 inch scale release of a Doctor, compared to no-one caring about the 12 inch Capaldi release, you don’t see mad rushes to the shops to get that one).

That they are looking into the matter as they to are confused by it being that price and because I made a few good points about it being a mad price my email has been forwarded to the directors.
So it sounds like we might be getting a price change, possibly but from what they said it sounds like it.

For a SDCC exclusive, I’d like to see a 3-pack of the Second Doctor in fur coat, Jamie and a Yeti. I think it’s quite possible.
As for a 5″ Clara, I’d like to see a 5″ twin pack of the Twelfth Doctor in main costume and Clara in either TOTD costume or series 8 finale costume.
But, I think a good option for Underground and Character Options () would be to release a 5″ Twelfth Doctor’s Companions pack upon Capaldi’s departure.

To be fair… They said that a year ago and since then we have had a war doctor figure and this. I personally believe we will be getting a twelfth doctor figure ( in costume ) and a new cyberman figure

How much in import/customs do you think it would cost to order this from Australia?

£8 coast and vat, with the post not worth its Unless the price drops below £15

      July 16th, 2014 - 5:43pm

Blimey that is cheap in comparison!

When I put it in my basket it says £14.88!!

      July 16th, 2014 - 5:44pm

i which case you will be Ok

      less that £20 incl post

    • Melkur

      July 16th, 2014 - 5:48pm

It’s a bit mad isn’t it!? That’s a remarkable bargain when compared to FPI.

    • Nicholas

      July 16th, 2014 - 5:53pm

If you check your cart it still says £16.48?

    • Melkur

      July 16th, 2014 - 6:01pm

Mine still says £14.88 + £6.08 shipping, so I just bit the bullet and preordered one (I’ve ordered off them loads of times, they are very good). The only downside is that Paypal takes the money instantly, but for £20.96 I think it’s worth it.

May order one myself then. I prefer it when they take the money instantly – means I don’t have to make sure I always have enough in the bank

I’ve ordered one from Oz. It’s half the price of forbidden planet. We’ve got to save the pennies in my house.

you can order this one from an Aussie site : http://www.popcultcha.com.au/doctor-who-time-of-the-doctor-regeneration-5-action-figure-set.html#.U8bt7pSSySo

      July 17th, 2014 - 11:35am

So im a bit confused! With postage it comes to £20.96 do i then add £8 customs cost making it £28.96! Never ordered from abroad before.

    • booboo

      July 17th, 2014 - 11:38am

      no

as long as the actual item is under £15 the post is irrelevant

if it goes above £15 you will have to pay vat on both the item and the post + £8 handling

to be honest non of us should even have to be considering doing this

      July 17th, 2014 - 11:41am

I will stick with the uk then! For the sake of no hassle. Thanks booboo

      July 17th, 2014 - 11:46am

      up to you

      its still a lot cheaper

the danger is if it goes above £15 because of the exchange rate then its not worth the risk

I still think the UK price seriously needs looking into or at least an explanation given as to why

if for some unknown reason its costing a lot to import i think people would be a little more understanding

I know lots of Australians missed the War doctor from Popcultcha so this might just not help it either.

    • booboo

      July 17th, 2014 - 1:27pm

again its because people could get weeks earlier and no real difference in cost even with post

I have always believed (within reason) on a level playing field.

At the moment we are playing in the Himalayas.

    • Sebatron

      July 17th, 2014 - 2:50pm

How do you mean getting weeks earlier, booboo?

    • booboo

      July 17th, 2014 - 3:07pm

people in the UK who ordered it from Australia got it weeks before the UK stock arrived

It says that this arrives in FPi’s warehouse on the 30th September. Are our orders dispatched from there, meaning we’d get it it after the 30th or are they dispatched before that so they arrive on release day, if not a few days earlier?

despatched on that date (if they do indeed arrive then)

dates have always been unreliable this far in advance

have know stock to arrive later or earlier

Already put a pre-order enquiry out for the ‘Asylum Of The Daleks’ set. It’s pretty darn definite that it will be released. Order a couple, as usual. Two different ‘New Paradigm’ Daleks, heavily weathered, and a ‘Proper’ bronze Dalek, also weathered. Think I’ll blow one of the ‘N.P.’ Daleks up, film it in slow motion. Should be a laugh.
