You’re kidding me, that is REALLY the artwork. I thought the ‘Planet Of The Spiders’ cover was bad, but this is just almost repulsive. If they used a separate photo of Jo and not the double shot (see the full shot on audiobook), it might actually be tollerable.

That is the region 1 cover design, yeah? I’ve always thaught they look horrendous compared to the region 2 designs – which I think look fab!

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:22pm

Agree with you there Gordon. For a much anticipated release, the cover art could have been better. Still, love the Ice warriors cover.

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:23pm

over here we have Region 4, and there just Region 2 with a few tweaks to the cover layout, just saw the cover for Mind of Evil, is that seriously the final cover because well purple??? why not go with Red or Orange… just purple doesn’t seem like the cover for a story with a missile in it and the master. Also with The Ice Warriors being a Red cover, i was expecting a green or light blue but Red seems to fit with the icy cover somehow 😀

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:59pm

Me being in America, I actually prefer Region 1 covers because they show a full picture, are sometimes more detailed, and I think the roundels on every cover just overuse them to the point where they look ugly (which they’re not, just a point I’m making).

although i dont live in the usa, bit i do know what you mean, i dont like half the art work on the dvds in the uk, but do like half of the ones in the usa

    • matparks08

      April 13th, 2013 - 12:29am

Some dvd covers really are better in Region 1 – Planet of Giants I think is the best example, so much of the artwork is missing on the Region 2 release

    • The Greater Intelligence

      April 13th, 2013 - 2:26am

‘The Sea Devils’ on the Region 1 is making the the main Sea Devil the focal point and larger than any other picture and it slowly degrades everything else. In the Region 2, everything is the same size and is condensed to less than half the size.

here’s a good question! What is your favourite Doctor Who Classic Series Cover Art? it doesn’t matter what region just in general what do you guys think is the best Cover? there’s alot to choose from 😛 so far though i have to say for me it would be the Spearhead From Space Original from Region 2 since it was my first dvd release and i always remember the Auton with its gun raised on the stairs 😀 aside from that The Caves of Androzani Special Edition and the Genesis of the Daleks from Region 2 are also really good.

    • The Greater Intelligence

      April 13th, 2013 - 1:37pm

I don’t have a favorite cover, but this is certainly one of my favorites. ‘The Greatest Show In The Galaxy’ cover to me was amazing, very VHS like where they actually drew the actors instead of using pictures. My favorite thing about it was that it was layered very well. When I say “layered”, I mean there is a picture in a row behind another row, slightly faded out, until they show the background. The 1st layer is the circus, the 2nd was characters, 3rd was the Gods Of Ravagnok ,4th was the temple burning down. Region 1 cover has all details.

I still like it, but of pre-special edition covers from 2001-2006, my favorite is Region 1 ‘Remembrance Of The Daleks’ follwed with the second place (Region Free) ‘Pyramids Of Mars’. I hate the latter story, though it had great covers in both Region 1 and 2.

Dan Hall announced today, at the Gallifrey One convention in L.A., that there was another story that had animations in production, but he didn’t say which story that was. The name of that title will be announced tomorrow on an official Doctor Who site (I think he said doctorwho.tv but I’m not sure). Which, since it is tomorrow in the U.K. already, should be any minute now.

The doctor who news page did an article on the return of the ice warriors to tv and also mentioned:

The Ice Warriors is to be released on DVD on Monday 26th August, but it is unknown as yet if the missing episodes two and three will be animated for it. It will, however, include the condensed reconstruction of both those episodes, which was on the 1998 VHS release.

Sadly it’s been confirmed that there is no animation for episodes two and three. The negative responses to the animation on Reign of Terror won’t have helped either.

    • Esterath

      February 12th, 2013 - 1:16pm

Really?! I loved the animation for ROT! If they cut down on the quick shots it could be even better!

    • Gordon

      February 12th, 2013 - 1:33pm

No that has not been confirmed. Its a badly worded press release which has errors in it. All the article confirms is that the vhs recon will be included (which steve roberts has confirmed months ago is “just an extra” which would explain its mention in the article). The article doesnt mention its getting but at the same time it doesnt mention it isnt getting animation either. The dvd has been delayed from april till august despite the existing episodes and extras having already been delivered so they must be planning something else for 2 and 3

    • Gordon

      February 12th, 2013 - 1:38pm

Also there is a convention in australia on the 22nd-24 february which dan hall is hosting with one of the animation producers and a world exclusive is being hyped. Could be for ice warriors and then again it might not. Just wait and see

    • AlzieWhozie

      February 12th, 2013 - 1:39pm

      February 12th, 2013 - 5:20pm

      they are not doing animation

    • Gordon

      February 12th, 2013 - 6:02pm

They havent said either way. As i keep saying The vhs recon was confirmed 3 months ago which would explain the mention in the article. Steve Roberts (who actually worked on the dvd) says the recon is “just a dvd extra” so it isnt main feature. Wouldnt pay too much attention to an article that has such mistakes as “upscaled spearhead” (if it is on film it wont need upscaled) and “extra sequences” on zygons (its just 1 scene) .Maybe its best to wait till the disc content is confirmed before saying whether or not its animated.

    • Gordon

      February 13th, 2013 - 2:32am

The article doesn’t say anything about what will be on the disc. Other than what’s already been confirmed will be on there (steve roberts confirmed the recons inclusion as an extra on 10th december 2012).1 other thing i want to point out.the vhs links of the missing episodes of invasion was also included as well as animation and it was supposed to happen for reign but no room.Tenth planet will also be getting its recon included (but no word of animation as of yet) so it looks like the vhs recons are being planned for them anyway

The trailers are done quite far in advance. Thats why they use unrestored footage in the trailers. Reign of terror didnt have any animation in its coming soon trailer as when the trailer was done no animation was avalible

  • Thomass

    February 2nd, 2013 - 11:49am

Surely they must be animating The Ice Warriors based on the following:
1 – If you we’re going to animate any missing episodes you would choose The Ice Warriors or Tenth Planet over The Reign Of Terror, surely these would sell better and be of more interest to fans
2 – Based on the above surely Reign was a test project
3 – I’m assuming that classic Doctor Who has not been shown on TV for years in the UK because they want to promote DVD sales, but in future it will be shown, inc. animated episodes so the more animated the more they have to sell
