Having just upgraded my vanilla DVDs to actually boxset am upset about this series 7 boxset, theres been very disappointing bidders since series 4, I loved the idea of the Steelbook for 5, I decided on the standard release instead of the silence head for season 6.

But only 3 discs for the complete series, at the moment I currently have 5 disc for season 7 (part 1=2 part 2=3) ans I have the weepin. Angel limited cover, think I may have to keep the individual 2 boxset as what there proposing is vvery disappointing.

and just so you know DOCTOR WHO ONE, F.A.B. stands for Full Acknowledgement of Broadcast (though that was made up after the programme finished, it doesn’t really mean anything the programme makers just liked it and it’s another word for good)

I like this cover. A lot. I think the images of Amy, Rory and Clara look good and the vortex looks lovely. And – I’m going to have to say it – Matt looks beautiful on this cover. He really does. I like the pink vortex along with Matt’s purple jacket. Can’t wait to purchase.

    TDTWTW ?.

Don’t ya just hate it sometimes when someone shortens words to the first letters of each word but they never say what it stands for ? !!!!.

I still don’t know what F.A.B. means when it comes to good old Thunderbirds !!!!!.

      December 31st, 2013 - 12:10pm

TDTWTW- THE DOCTOR, THE WIDOW AND THE WARDROBE

      F.A.B. – Has no meaning. It’s a version of ‘Over’ or ‘Rodger That’ etc… It’s thunderbirds version…

There is a point to allowing the change, and that is to allow the best person for the job to get the role.

If it is just for the publicity (which I fear may very well happen with a female Doctor) then there is a problem, but if it is genuinely about finding a good actor or actress then what would be the problem other than “tradition” which isn’t really a good excuse, should Sylvester McCoy not have gotten the role as he would have been the first ever Scottish Doctor for instance?

The lack of TDTWTW (especially since it’s included on the American release).

It’s included on the R1 release, but not on the R2 – quite strange…

Having read through the description again:

“Other Featurettes including: “Doctor Who in the US,” “Last Days of the Ponds,” –>“Pond Life,”<– “The Science of Doctor Who,” “The Companions,” and “Doctor Who at Comic Con”"

And after looking at the US amazon listing, I think we might just be missing some BBC America content and some Nerdist content.

With endearing story arcs, great supporting characters, Matt Smith as the Doctor, and episodes like Asylum of the Daleks, A Town Called Mercy, The Rings of Akhaten, and The Name of the Doctor, this has been a great season for me.

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:49pm

This is definatley my least favourite series so far.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:57pm

      I’d rank it:

      8. Series Two – some good episodes, but some real stinkers too, and just not that interesting for my liking.
      7. The Specials – only one brilliant episode, The Waters of Mars. The others are all pretty lacklustre.
      6. Series Three – a dull companion and not a lot of character development. Saved only by possibly the best Doctor Who season finale to date.
      5. I’ve ranked it higher than Series Three sheerly because of the amazing potential it had. Oh, and also for The Doctor’s Wife and The God Complex.

      Continued in next comment…

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 5:01pm

      4. Series Four – Donna was possibly the best thing about this series. Episodes like Midnight and Turn Left were sublime, too.
      3. Series One – loved the partnership with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper. John Barrowman was wonderful too when he joined.
      2. Series Five – introduced Matt Smith superbly. He instantly became my favourite Doctor, and it was a necessary injection that the show underwent to keep the clogs turning.

And I’ve run out of room AGAIN. Gonna have to leave the resolution till the final comment…

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 5:03pm

      1. Series Seven – for me, the most consistent series of Doctor Who ever. I were unsure of only two episodes upon first viewing (The Bells of Saint John & Nightmare in Silver), however rewatches have changed my opinions. Almost every episode was a highlight. My favourites of the lot (and there are rather a few) are Asylum of the Daleks, The Snowmen, Hide and The Name of the Doctor.

    • DoctorArkham

      July 26th, 2013 - 6:00pm

      My favourites and least series.

      8. Series 6- Far too complicated, too much development on romance rather than science fiction. Too much adult themes.
      7. Series 3- Got quite bored. Not much excitement that gets you hyped excepting the season finale which is outstanding.
      6. The Specials- Although they had good episodes, this series took far too long and David Tennant’s exit had too much blubbering.
      5. Series 1- I liked the Eccleston era. It was a good re-introduction of the show, but yet it was rather slow and some episodes were boring.

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 6:17pm

      8. Series 3 – Really quite boring and I really didn’t like the fact that Martha did not develop at all.
      7. The specials – Could have been so much better! They could also have done with more episodes.
      6. Series 1 – a good opener but it just wasn’t for me and the effects weren’t all that good
      5. Series 5 – The first episodes were great then it just went downhill for me, too complicated a finale and again could have been much better
      (I WILL BE BACK!)

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 6:17pm

      4. Series 7 – Again a few good episodes but most were bad. And it was dominated by the doctor moaning that he didn’t know who Clara was 🙄
      3. Series 6 – Some good episodes but the whole River thing started to get really annoying! It wasn’t really necessary to make everything about River.
      (I WILL BE BACK!)

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 6:18pm

      2. Series 2 – Loved it mainly because I thought The doctor and his companion worked so well together (I know some will disagree) And episodes were all great and just a great series!
      1. Series 4 – Amazing series Donna was absolutely amazing and so funny and she and the doctor worked so well and my favourite episode of all time is here (the unicorn and the wasp) one word ‘Exceptional’

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 7:47pm

The Unicorn and the Wasp is a guilty pleasure of mine. I don’t think it went down too well with most fans, though personally I enjoyed as, like Hide (one of my all-time favourites) it was a nice change from other stories – a concise little episode that didn’t contribute much in the grand scheme of things but remained in people’s hearts. If you ask me, those sorts of Who episodes are the best. The ones that stick with you – that you could watch in any circumstances, no matter how you feel. It doesn’t always have to be a big booming finale! 🙂

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 7:55pm

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean and I like story’s that as you say don’t contribute to the scheme as they are different and fun. That was the problem with series 6; The TARDIS a machine that can go anywhere in time and space and Moffat makes a whole series about one woman 🙄 and Moffat is creating more rules that are making it harder to have the TARDIS go anywhere (you can’t cross your own time stream blah, blah, blah) Anyway the reason I like the ep so much is it is so funny and original and I like the way it is a spoof of Agatha Christie.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 7:59pm

Just as often has he can overwhelm me with his dazzling scripts, Moffat can get on my nerves… The reasons I like The Rings of Akhaten and Hide so much are simply because they are breaths of fresh air after – albeit still enjoyable – many predictable episodes. And The Unicorn and the Wasp is another fine example of this 🙂

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:13pm

Nooo! Don’t put me in this position!! 😉 It’s a tricky one, however in the end I’d go for The Eleventh Hour. It amazes me that the Doctor had never really had to save the world literally under an hour after regenerating before that point, and it made for a superb story. It served as an exceptional introduction for both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. Some other episodes have run it close over the years, but I’d say The Eleventh Hour is still Moffat’s finest hour.

Close behind it though, The Snowmen and The Girl in the Fireplace!! 🙂

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:15pm

      What’s your favourite episode, Trenzalore?

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:18pm

I know it is hard to have a fave episode 😆 I agree that eleventh hour is a great episode easily my best Matt Smith episode and a great introduction to his doctor. I also liked The Snowmen a super Christmas episode. And the girl in the fireplace is good too, love the horse 😉

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:20pm

My fave is ‘Unicorn and the wasp’ and I have said why above 😆

    • The Monitor

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:21pm

      Best seasons

      1. Sixth
      2. Fifth
      3. Fourth
      4. Third
      5. Second
      6. First
      7. Seventh

Whilst the seventh series was for me the worst ever season of Doctor Who, and I know people who hate it even more than I do, Nightmare in Silver was the absolute highlight and probably my favourite new series episode.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:23pm

I agree, it is ridiculously hard to have a favourite episode! But in the end, you’ve got to say that every episode of Doctor Who has a place in your heart (yes, even Love & Monsters, which was alright until Peter Kay invaded). It’s at times like this I feel privileged to be part of such a huge and wonderful fandom.

Oh, and I agree with you 100%, I loved The Snowmen! 😀

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:24pm

Each to their own, The Monitor. At first, I was unsure of Nightmare in Silver, but over time it’s grown on me. Most episodes usually do 🙂

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 8:26pm

Looks like I’ll be importing this from the US then. Hooray for Region Free Blu-Ray! I will probably pick up a UK copy for the purpose of signatures and have the US copy for watching.

It seems a strange thing to be importing a copy of a British show…

Sadly, it comes out the day after I leave from a trip to the US. Murphy’s Law and all that 😛

  • Justjeulin

    July 26th, 2013 - 4:14pm

If you’re mad at the BBC for releasing the American version first, the one with more extras, then you’re being incredibley selfish.

I’m British and live in America, and we had next to nothing merchandise wise until Series 7 started. Even now we don’t have as much stuff as you guys have. So what if one DVD with more extras is released earlier? That’s nothing compared to all the classic DVD’s, books and figures availible in the U.K. Not only that, but to my knowledge only Barnes and Nobles has Doctor Who merchandise. So please, stop complaining

    • Justjeulin

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:15pm

And please stop with the 50th trailer nonsense. People from around the world went to the panel. I’m living in America, but that doesn’t mean I get to see the trailer.

I agree entirely. Though it think it’s a bit racist for Baby face to suggest a black Doctor would ‘ruin the show’, as it is clearly not true. I would personally welcome a Doctor of any race or gender.

  • DOCTOR WHO ONE

    July 26th, 2013 - 3:17pm

    Nice cover.

Unusual really to have just one side of the 11th Doctor being shown, but it makes a bit of a change having him looking right at you like they’ve done on the previous 6 series box sets.

I wounder what the other side looks like, cos when it comes to a complete series box set, the images are always different on both sides, like with series 4 you get the 10th Doctor and Donna Noble on one side, and Davros on the other.

  • dalek control

    July 26th, 2013 - 3:03pm

I thought maybe the anniversary adventure and the Christmas special would have been part of this box set, as it rounds off Matt’s Doctor?

  • Anonymous

    July 26th, 2013 - 3:02pm

The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe has nothing to do with any series, much like The Five Doctors and The Movie it was produced entirely separately from everything else and so doesn’t have a series (even its production code is simply “X11” with no series number attached).

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:33pm

I think the problem is they are trying to make it too child friendly. In turn, the episodes don’t have the same effect on me as they used to and they are getting too predictable.

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:34pm

Oh I agree completely. They have made Sontarons a joke!

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:36pm

Yes, it’s things like that that annoys me, not being unable to see a trailer

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:38pm

I can see your points. However, I think the Sontaran joke situation could easily be resolved next season in an episode where Strax is forced to choose between his race and his friends. It would reintroduce the battle-loving Sontarans of the past that we know and love, as well as require Strax to become a sensible character for a change.

I myself have no problem with Strax. He produced some of the best comical moments of the previous series, and I cannot fault the writers for that.

Oh, and I’ve run out of room again…

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:40pm

Personally, I believe the show is in the right hands with Moffat and co. I thought so back in 2010 with Series 5, I must say a few doubts were risen in my mind with Series 6, however Series 7 has reignited my hope. In Clara Oswald we have a witty and likeable companion, and on the horizon we have a new Doctor.

Though it’ll take me some convincing to get over the exceptional Matt Smith.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:42pm

I just wrote a huge extension, only for it to delete itself. Hey ho. Basically, I believe the show is in the right hands with the Moff & co. I thought so back in 2010 with Series 5, doubts were risen in my mind after the underwhelming Series 6 – but following Series 7, my hopes have been lifted once more.

In Clara Oswald we have a witty and likeable companion. And on the foreseeable horizon, a new Doctor. Things are looking up.

Though it must be said, it’ll take me some convincing to get over the exceptional Matt Smith.

    • Trenzalore

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:42pm

I like Moffat (I don’t dislike anyone on doctor who) even though I liked Davies more and the way he ran the show (I know some of you will disagree with me on that) I sure hope the Sonarons are braught back to their blood thirsty beginnings 🙂

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:45pm

Oh. My original extension has returned. Hey ho. I can also see your point with Davies. My mother thinks the same way as you 🙂

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:46pm

I don’t think the sontaran thing will be resolved because they will want to keep the kids happy by not loosing the “comedic” Strax. I don’t mind him having comedic moments but they are normally at inappropriate times which ruins the atmosphere of serious moments.

I was the opposite with series 7. I feel Doctor Who has been going downhill since series 5.

I think it is time for change. There is not much left to do with Matt’s character.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:53pm

I don’t think children would lose comedic Strax as by the end of the episode he would choose to remain with Vastra and Jenny rather than depart with the rest of his species. I think it would merely restore much-necessary dignity for the Sontarans 🙂

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:55pm

They shouldn’t keep Strax though. He is the reason sontarans have no dignity so it wouldn’t change anything if he stayed.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 3:56pm

Obviously, I don’t have total trust in Moffat… Series 6 was a bit of a shambles really – a disappointment, as I believe it was the best advertised in modern Doctor Who. I think it was the Silence, in the end, that let it down. We were promised an immensely creepy opponent, always lurking in the shadows, always there – and in the end, what did we get? Another, still pretty creepy, but relatively standard Moffat villain. And I’ll admit, in this series the Whispermen were one of the biggest let-downs for me. Fabulous design = underused villains.

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:00pm

I agree with that. Except I don’t have any trust left with Moffat. Maybe I was expecting too much when I heard he was taking over.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:02pm

I don’t blame you. I think we all were expecting a bit too much, to be fair 🙂

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:07pm

He does come up with good ideas but I think he just can’t pull them off very well. For example, monsters invading the wi-fi is such a simple yet brilliant idea. However, he didn’t pull it off as well as I hoped.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:11pm

Yes, I had high hopes for The Bells of Saint John, and in the end I felt rather underwhelmed. Though Series 7 in general left me a lot more positive than Series 6 🙂

    • videogamemad00

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:12pm

I knew it would turn out terribly but it is definatley the one that made me question why I still watch Doctor Who.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:23pm

It’s always good to keep watching. You never know, perhaps Strax will become serious again and Moffat will become better at translating his ideas into the show. I mean, it’s unlikely. But you never know! 😉

    • Dalek the Supreme

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:36pm

Around Series 4, I was starting to lose my interest in Doctor Who. The Doctor was behaving way too much like a human being in some episodes and there were some episodes I didn’t like. Then the Doctor regenerating and Series 5 gave me a new favorite Doctor, favorite season, favorite episode, and new favorite Daleks. I admit Series 6 had it’s low points, but it also had it’s highs and Asylum of the Daleks and the episodes after it made my hopes for the 50th soar, and the epic cliffhanger of The NotD has my full enthusiasm for the 50th special.

    • That Random Whovian

      July 26th, 2013 - 4:52pm

Dalek the Supreme, I agree entirely. You deserve a medal, my good man/woman. Though some may (in some cases, rightfully) argue RTD is the better showrunner between Moffat and he, I have found the Moff era to be a lot more investing and consistent than Davies’. I feel that now we are entering possibly the most exciting time to be a Who fan! 😀

  • Trenzalore

    July 26th, 2013 - 2:33pm

Matt Smiths last full series 😥 Absolutely incredible cover 😀 I think they did the side of Matts head because you can see his chin more prominently 😆 My only fault with this cover is you can’t really see Amy, Rory or Clara very well but I suppose they will be clearer when you have the Box set in hand. I hope series 8 is not a split series 😥

    • Dalek the Supreme

The Random Whovian stated that the finale would also serve as the Christmas Special, so that’s a reduction from fourteen to twelve.
