I just learned that my name and pic is in this one, on the piece about the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra. I can’t wait to get hold of a copy to read it.

One of the scores that has stuck with me is the music from City of Death. And of course the Cybermen’s theme from Tomb of the Cybermen.(well, it’s most famous as their theme, i think it may not have been the only use)

the “tomb of the cybermen cybermen march theme” is actually a generic piece of space-themed music that was made by a different group without Doctor Who in mind

This looks like a good read. Not sure why they say ‘six decades’ on the front though. Five decades and two years doesn’t really classify as a sixth decade

      Well, it’s been around during six decades… 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s…

It’s a pity they didn’t include a CD on the cover with some sample tracks.

Maybe, but apparently they have included You Tube links so you can in many cases hear a piece you’ve just been reading about.

What a strange magazine to bring out…surely the idea of music is to hear it, and if you haven’t seen the episodes they look into how can you possibly know what the music is like. That being said, there’s some very memorable pieces of incidental music in Who’s history!

It may not be everyone cup of tea to read about the making of the music used in Doctor Who since it’s humble beginnings since 1963, but I can imagine a lot of fan’s would enjoy reading this, especially those fan’s on YouTube who make their own renditions of the Doctor Who theme or Stephen Willis’ ‘Doctor Who Fan Orchestra’ on YouTube 🙂

Course, Doctor Who does indeed have some very memorable songs, from Rose’s theme to ‘Song of Freedom’, to ‘Vale Decem’ and even ‘I am the Doctor’.

There have been some wonderful Interviews, over the years in DWM about the Music, By the Musicians, and thier approach. Not everyone is aware of Click tracks, Holding scores, Why certain music is used, why music is used at all even.

Lots of reasons to read about music, from the people who make it. Thats why Musicians are some of the Biggest Biography Sellers in the world. There are whole sections of waterstones, with books on Music. And with the importance of the theme music and other stand out themes used over the years, this is one special I have been waiting for and wondered why it was not an essential Bookazine.
