I love the new logo, I’m interested to see how DWM will make it work with brighter backgrounds.

I don’t buy blue-ray, so not interested in a release on that format anyway, but i have to say season 12 seems a stretch in that format. The web of fear strikes me as an obvious release at some point, be it a straight re-release, animated or a returned full version and i can see the crusade as again, straight forward 2 episode animation. But i do think marco polo is unlikely. I just think there are more commercially viable releases before a 7 part historical stories that is actually quite dull to listen to. It’s not the classic people go on about. It might improve with animation, but really very little happens in it’s near 3 hour run time. Don’t mistake me, I’d buy it like a shot if they do it, but I’d think it will be mostly hard-core fans who purchase marco polo.

Hmmm, i sort of agree. I’ve owned marco polo for 14 years and have listened to it 3 times, and yes, it is a bit dull. But i think it would sell to a wider audience if marketed well. I agree that it feels like wouldn’t be animated for a while though.

I dunno, season 12 does seem to be seen as a major milestone by some. Indeed, it was the only full season to be issued in script book format too. Some of the special features sound great including the Tom Baker years VHS on disc for the first time!

Season 12 listed on Amazon Uk for 11th June release – extras listed and ‘special edition’ packaging. I would imagine that is the next step forward for the range if it’s going to take one….. to be honest, after 25 years of collecting videos, then DVDs I’m feeling at a loss these days and any release is welcome to me 😉

I’m not continually buying it again and again and again on every next format. It isn’t worth spending the money. I’ve got them on DVD. That is more than adequate. I have absolutely no interest in getting Season 12 on Blu-ray. However, ‘The Web of Fear: Special Edition DVD’…now you’re talking my language!

Absolutely pointless if it is Season 12 on Blu-ray. I won’t be buying it. Waste of money. The episodes won’t look any better as they weren’t made in HD. This is more like an early April fools joke. Utterly pointless.

    • Anonymous

      March 5th, 2018 - 8:33pm

Well it’s not utterly pointless, the audio quality could be improved by a Blu-Ray release, but visually there wouldn’t be any improvement.

    • Tim M

      March 5th, 2018 - 9:43pm

Still not buying it. The audio is fine already on the DVDs. Blu-ray won’t make ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ any better as a story. The only thing that may be of any real interest in this collection would be the extra’s. These may well be in HD, but even I don’t think they will offer up anything we haven’t already heard or already know.

Up scaled if done properly looks great. Heard rumours that the restoration team is involved which is promising. Probably will have some sort of exclusive content to lure buyers. Will be buying. If you don’t want it just don’t buy it. You aren’t forced to

And I wouldn’t put too much into the web dvd release by August. Dwo did tweet last month: A few of our contacts are saying Web Of Fear: SE for August! Just a rumour at the moment, but would follow suit and would be welcomed 🙂

However they called it a rumour at present. By calling it a rumour It doesn’t sound like they even trust their own sources which makes it hard for me to trust them. If it doesn’t happen by August they will just go and say well we did say it was just a rumour.

Personally I think It will happen at some point but I would not put too much stock into a cryptic tweet that may or may not be accurate

    • Tim M

      March 6th, 2018 - 12:08pm

I’m more excited about ‘The Web of Fear’:special edition, if it ever does happen? With animated episode 3, or recovered episode 3. I just wish that whoever took it away under the nose of Phil Morris looks after it and hasn’t tried playing it on a projector, as that would likely damage the film more, which needs desperate restoration anyway. It is somewhat grating though. Troughton has so few complete stories, and he should really have 8 complete instead of 7.

      March 6th, 2018 - 2:39pm

I find it interesting that they are referring to it as Tom Baker’s first season rather than Season 12.

If you remember back in 2009/10 Steven Moffat attempted a similar rebranding which fell flat on its face mainly because the assorted merchandise producers refused to cooperate with the scheme. It seems Chibnall may have been a lot more forceful on the matter than his predecessor.

The idea is that people prefer smaller sets of numbers but bigger numbers for statistics. So in 2010 when the first attempt happened saying Series 31 sounds impressive and “The Eleventh Doctor’s first series” encourages people to jump on, nobody would start there if it was called “Series 5” yet BBC Worldwide didn’t budge.

Ooooh it looks really nice and the TARDIS actually looks amazing on this cover it looks better than it did in the reveal image. I really hope they do keep everything under wraps this series. For series 10 I feel like they had to ruin the mondasian cybermen and John Simm because of the dwindling viewer figures whereas this time around it’s guaranteed to get a larger viewership because of the love it or hate it doctor change so this is a great opportunity to throw in some surprises

I mean I know we’re all speculating that it’s Web of Fear, but wouldn’t it just be the announcement of Enemy of the World Special Edition? And the Steelbook? None of those were in the previous DWM (I don’t recall).

    • Anonymous

      March 5th, 2018 - 1:33pm

They were in the last magazine, alongside a note that another release was to be announced in the next issue.

It’s probably Silver Nemesis, but we’ll have to wait and see.

    • The Outcast

      March 5th, 2018 - 1:55pm

I think it’ll be Web, and that we’ll also get Earthshock and Silver Nemesis Special Editions down the road, maybe in some kind of Cyberman boxset with Wheel in Space on it.

    • Anonymous

      March 5th, 2018 - 3:35pm

Why an earthshock special edition? It’s already got cgi effects and quite a few extras. And i remember the vhs silver nemesis, trouble was some of the added footage was very poor, and some like the pause to chat about the painting mid chase was a bit daft as it slowed everything down. I’d be very annoyed if they put wheel in a pointless box set.

My guesses for the DVD calendar; Special Editions of The Web Of Fear, The Dalek Invasion Of Earth, Pyramids Of Mars, The Leisure Hive, Ghostlight, The Curse Of Fenric, Earthshock, the rumoured Series 1-10 New Who box set, AND a Blu-ray release of Season 12 over the next 2 years (NOTE: this doesn’t include S11 releases).
