It’s actually very good value for what you get – a 116-page edition of the regular magazine (that’s extra pages than normal), plus a whole extra 116-page magazine which is ad-free and in effect like one of their thrice-yearly Special Editions where this time the subject matter is the history of DWM itself (massively nostalgic and beautiful to look at) – and the huge poster, sticker sheet (admittedly a bit in-jokey – helps if you’ve been a long-term reader to appreciate what some of them are about/getting at), and the art-card. Given you pay £9.99 for one of their ‘Essential Doctor Who’ mag-books, this is a massive amount of top-notch content for your the money being asked. I suppose it *is* a large sum to find in one ‘go’, but you get masses in return.

Looked in 3 shops in my area of Bristol that always stock Doctor Who Magazine. And none of them had it! One of the shops was still stocking issue 499. It seems like this particular special issue hasn’t materialised in my pat of Bristol yet.

It also wasn’t available in WHSmiths Cardiff or Newport yesterday, or Sainsburys which is my usual backup! Obviously hasn’t been distributed to Wales/South West yet.

I phones the Number in the mag and they said it is out now and they don’t know why this area has not had it. it’s made me very sad that a special issue is hot there.

Wouldn’t say it’s a ‘bit pricey’ at all really… You get TWO 116 page magazines (bear in mind 1 magazine is normally about 85 or so pages and costs £5) plus a whole host of extras…

I forget I’m getting older. Luckily for you otherwise I’d have mentioned it’s original price of 12p a week (48p a month) so you’re right to correct me. Even then it’s nearly two and six in old money, lol.

As the 50th Anniversary special used the original titles it’s only fitting that the magazine harks back to it’s first cover as well. “After all, that’s where it all started”, lol. A bit pricy perhaps but I’ll jumble my finances around a bit.

It’s the longest running magazine based on a TV show, from 1979 to present. It took the record in April 2010.
