Cannot find this anywhere in Leeds. Tried a few supermarkets, WHSmith and specialist magazine stores a few times since it came out and nothing, just hope I can get issue 500.

Issue 499 could be the best cover they’ve ever produced. It looks magnificent in your hand.

Omg! Issue 500 is £9.99 (double the normal price) but it has some artcards and 116 extra pages (or some sort of mini mag) find more at forbidden planet.com

The next mag – issue 500 – is indeed £9.99. There are actually two magazines, both 116 pages each, a giant poster, (one side looks like it’s a Dalek so i’m happy, not that i put posters up but it’s always nice to unfold them and look at them from time to time), a sticker sheet, and an art card.

Subscribers like myself should be dead happy getting it all for about £3.50.

When you subscribe to DWM how early do you usually recieve the issues? And are there dispatch emails for each issue?

Used to we the day before they were out in shops (a Wednesday) or the Monday before if it was a bank holiday on the Thursday. Usually not its just the day it comes out

Mine always arrive on the day before, if not earlier… And no, there’s no dispatch email (but their customer services reply quickly if you have any issues).

Best magazine cover for a very very long time. I have just been over about 200 previous covers; you have to go back that far to get artwork rather than poses and dreadful close ups. I think one could safely say that this is the best cover in at least ten years.

I agree, I hate all the close up photos they stick on the front every issue!

That’s the cover of the first ever “proper” book I read in the mid seventies. I’m hoping to get a copy of the reprint of Genesis of the Daleks signed by Terrance Dicks and Chris Achilleos this Saturday…

Love the cover. Very concerned about “How to have a Doctor Who wedding” though. I really hope they don’t start making the same mistakes as the official BBC Doctor Who Twitter of pandering to the wrong demographic.

How is it the wrong demographic? When partners share an interest if often becomes part of the wedding. I’m a photographer, I’ve seen a lot of themed weddings, so I’m not sure what point you are making

      Sorry.
      Wrong demographic?
Doctor Who is universal. End of.

Yeah, I agree with ahunter8056. Completely wrong to have something like this. DWM is turning out the way DWA and the official Twitter page are going, appealing to the nu-who tumblr obsessed fans, if i had to stereotype.

Being as respectful as I can, I don’t think either of you realise how demographics work. Target audience demographics have to be specific. You can’t say “we’re aiming this product at everyone”. It just doesn’t work like that. A wide range of people may watch that product, but you still have to aim it at a specific range of people.

TheFishmonger, I think you misread my comment. At no point did I say “Doctor Who themed weddings don’t exist”.

But this type of article is the same type of thing you’d find on Tumblr. The same type of thing the official BBC Doctor Who Twitter would share now, which has resulted in lots of users unfollowing them and criticising them. It may be something that appeals to the minority of fans who use Tumblr, but for the fanbase as a whole, it’s not.

Going back to audience target demographics, would you expect the majority of DWM’s buyers to be in the 15-26 year old demographic? No, you’d expect the majority to be nearer the 24-38 demographic. Do you think the majority of DWM’s readers are the type of fans to use Tumblr? No. So would you expect DWM to appeal directly to them? No. It’s all about target audience and understanding your actual audience. You may call it stereotyping, but that’s simply how demographics work.

I just thought I’d end this post by saying that no offence was intended from any of the points raised, and as such I hope none has been taken.

£4.99 for issue 499! I think this has only happened four times before in the magazine’s history (numbers 12, 340, 399 & 420). How long till it happens again I wonder…
